+ -1 moreAfter calling General Electric on Fri 9/23 and finding out that they could not schedule anyone to help me until Monday, I called Affordable Appliance Repair at 1PM and they came out immediately. The refrigerator was not cooling properly and I had lots of melted ice and thawing food. Doug, the repairman new what the problem was as soon as I described it to him and he replaced a Control board and 2 thermistors and as of just after 3Pm, the refrigerator is up and running. I am very impressed with the quick service and will definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: Five year old GE refrigerator was not cooling sufficiently.

+ -1 moreThe company responded to my call quickly, got the parts and did the repair as quickly as that kind of job allows....a few hours. Although the parts were costly it was far less than a new fridge of same size and quality would have been. The service man and his assistant were prompt, pleasant and professional. There was no mess to clean up after completion of the repair because they took care of it. Manny did the job right and we are very happy with the results. We woud definitely use their services in the future.
Description of Work: My non-chilling 16 year old sub-zero refrigerator needed diagnosis and repair. It was in need of a new compressor and thermostat. which is costly, but far less than a new fridge of same size and quality. The service was prompt, professional and there was no mess for me to clean up after the service men were finished because they took care of it. My service provider did the job right and I am very happy with the results.

+ -1 moreThe overall experience of using Affordable Appliance Repair was great. I called and spoke with Don to explain our problem and schedule a service technician. I explained that we needed a mid-afternoon appointment and within moments we were schedule between 1pm and 3:30pm the same day. Our technician, Chris called me at about 2:30 to let me know he was on they way. When Chris arrived, he was very professional in every way. His knowledge and expertise made for a very speedy repair and at a price that was on the low side of my expectations. Chris also helped to educate us about maintenance on the appliance so that we could avoid problems in the future. I plan to use Affordable Appliance Repair for all of our appliance needs going forward! Very positive experience
Description of Work: Our dishwasher was not draining so we called Affordable Appliance Repair. They repaired the cause of the blockage, cleared the obstruction and educated us as to how to keep it from happening again.

+ -1 moreMy Dacor microwave was not opening when I pushed the release button so I called to find a company to do the repair. I had to call a few companies before I found one who could fix Dacor appliances. I spoke to someone at the main number who had the repair person call me right back. I explained the problem, he knew what was wrong and ordered the part. He could have come the next day but I was not available so he came the day after that. Two servicemen came, they were clean, professional and went right to work. They fixed the problem, explained what they were doing, gave me some pointers on how to make the microwave keep working properly and cleaned up. They did a great job. I will definitely use them the next time I need an appliance repaired.

Our Tecninican, Manny, really knows his busienss. He has been in it for 21 years he informed us, and it really shows. We would have absolutely no hesitancy in using Affordable Appliance Repair again, and while we are going to request Manny by name, we feel certain his co-service persons are equally reliable. Description of Work: Cooling fan for the compressor on our 28 year-old, Whirlpool upright freezer went out yesterday. After supper, we reached into the freezer to pull out the ice cream container and the ice cream was very soft. Our freezer thermometer read in the low 20's. After a restless evening, we got up early today and vacuumed the compressor coil, and that did not help. We got on Angie's List and selected Affordable Appliance Repair at 480-704-4310 (there are other numbers,too.) We talked to Don who initially had us conduct a couple of tests to see if the problem was readily identifiable so we could perhaps repair it. It wasn't. We were told by Don that we could expect a repair person (our cross streets are 36th street and Camelback Road) anytime between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. MANNY arrived about 12:25 p.m. along with a serviceman-in-training. Manny had the issue isolated within two minutes of looking and listening to the freezer. The fan motor used to cool the compressor had failed (after 28 years). Manny pulled out his price-for- repairs book from Whirlpool and informed us that the repair was scheduled at $250 for parts and labor but his company would reduce that by $55 off the service call and our total would be $195.00. We agreed on the price and the repair. Manny had his tecnician-in-training go out to the van and pull out a replacement motor and about 20 minutes later the job was finished. Manny took some additiional time and thoroughly cleaned the compressor coils and the adjacent area of our utility room where the upright freezer stands.. On their way out, Manny asked if we had recently cleaned the compressor area of our Sub Zero all refrigerator in the kitchen. After being informed that we had not done so recently, he showed us how to remove the grill and what to do and how to go abou it. That was gratis! THEY ARE VERY GOOD PEOPLE WITH WHOM TO WORK. TtHEY DO GOOD WORK. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO USE THEM. If you are lucky enough to get Manny in the bargain, so much the better. Pete and Chriss M.

+ 0 moreMicrowave had started shutting off after a couple of minutes of use, and wouldn't come back on for an hour or more. Called Wednesday morning, received an estimate, and they called within an hour to schedule for the next day. They came when they said, and replaced the magnatron for the price they estimated. Unless the microwave stops working soon, I'd say were were pleased with the service.

+ -1 moreIt has been fine. He was a real nice guy. I used him for something else a long time ago. I didn't have any problem. They show up. When I called he said that he was kind of booked but he thought he could get me on his way home. He got there the same day instead of putting me off until the next day. He knew that it was getting warm in the refrigerator and he didn't want me to lose any food. He made a point to shuffle things around to get there right away. The price was a little high but I understood because of the service call and everything. It was a lot cheaper than getting a new refrigerator.
Description of Work: I used Affordable Appliance Repair to repair my refrigerator because it was getting too warm. It was clicking and I put in a thermometer and it was up to 45 degrees. They put in a new control or relay thing on the compressor.

+ -1 moreI liked the guys. They did great work, but what I wasn't clear about was the cost. I know that in-house appliance repair is always more expensive than you think it's going to be. It was really timely arranged for. The work was great. I would use them again. The cost seemed a little high to me, but I didn't have a solid basis to say it was too high or too low. They came and they were prompt. They did good work and they fixed it. It was a relief. I would use them again for appliance repair, but I have no idea whether their price was reasonable. I had no comparison for the price, so I can't evaluate the price. I called them. They came and told me how much it was. They did good work and I would use them again. Manny was the guy who came. I think he works with somebody else who was on the website.
Description of Work: Affordable Appliance Repair & Vent Cleaning fixed a couple of things in my dishwasher. A part of the dishwasher mouth was broken so when you pulled the dishes out, the dishwasher would swing forward and they repaired that. The connecting plastic hose that connected the dishwasher had developed a leak and they replaced that.

+ -1 moreService was done promptly and tech showed up early. It took him 15min to complete the job. I was not please with the invoice price of $195.00 for a 15min job and then it did not include any details on the cost of the part or the labor charge. It just stated that the subtotal was $238.70 and a discount of what looks to be $98.70 with a total cost to us of $195.00. This is the breakdown, Diagnostic=$55.00, Service call=-$55.00(discount), Subtotal=$238.70, Discounts=$98.70, Total due=$195.00 all for 15min worth of work and my frig is now making all kinds of knocking and thud noises! Next time I will do more research on the cost, when I researched the cost of the part afterward, it was (high end) $70.00, that means that we paid $125.00 in labor costs for 15min. That is completely ridiculous!!!!
Description of Work: The tech was friendly and completed the job replacing a cold control thermostat on our frig. He showed up early (with permission) and completed the job quickly.

I looked it up on Angie's List and there were two companies that were on there that I looked at and I was not happy with the first company that I called. I moved onto the second company and scheduled an appointment with them and they were called Affordable Appliance Repair & Vent Cleaning. They were well on time and extremely efficient. They were very knowledgeable and took the extra step of tracking down a part that they needed to fix; one of the two things that I had called them for. I was very pleased with them. I don't have anything to compare their price to, but I felt it was fair. I was tickled to death to get the fridge fixed and their quality was excellent. They do more than just refrigerators and offer a wide range, which gives me more opportunity to use them if one of them goes haywire.
Description of Work: Affordable Appliance Repair & Vent Cleaning helped me repair my refrigerator on June 8th 2009. They also do washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, ovens, rangers, microwaves, water-heaters, disposals, dishwashers, dryer-vent cleaning and they cover a wide range.

+ -1 moreI called them mid afternoon and they dispatched Dwayne within a couple of hours. He was prompt. He diagnosed the problem right away = faulty valve. He did not have Whirlpool one. He had a similar one for Maytag with similar specs. Instead of special ordering one, he offered to use the one from Maytag. He used this valve and lo and behold; it worked just fine. His knowledge that the same company makes the valves for these two washers came in handy. He also helped me fix my double oven. The solution was simple; he just had me turn off and on the breaker switch for my double oven. Again this worked like a charm; He was not called in for the oven; but he helped anyway and did not charge me for this. Some unscrupulous repair men could have fiddled around and charged me for it. He also waived my service and diagnostic fee of 55$ and included it in my total charge. He also was kind enough to switch positions of the washer and dryer [needed it to re arrange shelves in the laundry room] Overall a really good experience

+ -1 moreDoug showed up when the operator said he would. He spent time analyzing the problem and then he spent time on the phone with the GE tech support. He swapped out multiple parts before concluding that it was the door switch. This made us happy because it was a much cheaper problem than any of the other parts that could have caused the problem. Doug had to pick up the part at the store and return the next day. When he returned the next day, he replaced the switch but it didn't make the light turn off. He eventually figured out that the latch on the milk door was the actual (and much cheaper) problem. I should note that we have a rare refrigerator with a mini-door on the front that opens so that you can pull out just a gallon of milk without opening the big door. Doug had never seen one of these. Problem solved for much less than we feared.
Description of Work: Our refrigerator quit cooling food and started making food hot because the light would not go out. Doug eventually discovered that the milk door on the front of the refrigerator had the latch come loose that let the refrigerator know the door was closed so that it would know to turn off the light. Doug fixed latch. Additionally, he replaced the switch on the door that turns off the light. Doug felt that it was faulty. He did not charge us for the switch.

+ -1 moreI called Manny to fix my freezer today as he suggested a couple weeks ago when he was here to fix my disposer and ice maker. Anyway, the freezer was going belly up as he predicted it would so I called this morning he came on a timely basis this afternoon. After adding freon it appears to be cooling again. So he saved my food and only charged $135. He also educated me on what to do if the freezer quits again and how to get the parts replaced under warranty. Manny is really good at looking out for the customer in advising when work can be done under warranty instead of just doing it himself and charging a fee. So I'm a happy camper and highly recommend Affordable again.

+ -1 moreManny was supposed to come during a given time period but never showed up. No contact the following day so I called back and he said he lost the call order and forgot about it. When he showed up, he was training a new person so they shared the work. When he replaced the garbage disposer, he didn't change out the drain flange so my Insinkerator still says Kitchen Aid when you look into the sink. He fixed the ice maker and offered to take a look at my refrigerator, but was out in the drive way for maybe 15 minutes debugging a problem with another employee (probably a trainee). So, bottom line, Manny is very good at appliance repair and not looking to make a buck so he is trustworthy but he seems so overwhelmed with growing the business and training that he is missing things and making mistakes. I would still recommend, but the best I could give Affordable is a "B" and that is a gift based on prior experiences. If this was a first time, I'd probably give a much lower rating.

+ -1 moreThey came out, took a look and were intimidated by the job. They were honest about it and the person said he doesn't want to take it on because he thought we would have to spend too much of money. So, he recommended that we go straight to another company to get it done because they might be able to do it a little cheaper but we opted to wait out and if the problem gets worse we may call the other company. It took them about three days to call back and then we set something up. They were out when they said they would be out and it was about two days after they called us to come out to schedule something. Then after a week the person came out to look at it and said let me go back and look at the service manual to see if we can even do this for you. Then he called us back about a week later and told that they couldn't do this work. He didn't charge us anything for the estimate. He was a little lacking in confidence but he was honest with me and stepped away.

+ -1 moreAs had happened before when the refrigerator was six months old, the mullion behind the doors of the refrigerator and freezer sides became excessively hot, so we suspected that we again needed a new condenser motor. We joined Angie's List last night to find a reliable and recommended repairman and picked Affordable Appliance Repair due to their excellent ratings and reviews from other customers and called them at 8:30 this morning. I described what I thought to be the problem, and the owner, Don, said he could be here between 11 and 11:30. He called at 10:45 to say he was on his way and showed up with his trainee brother, Doug, 15 minutes later. They concurred with my assessment of the problem, and Doug changed out the motor under the watchful eye of Don. They charged $50.00 less than the price printed in the labeled manufacturer's booklet showed, and were on their way by 11:30. What could be better!
Description of Work: Replaced a DC condenser motor on a Whirlpool-built (with Kenmore label), 8-year-old, side-by-side refrigerator.

In this day and age it is refreshing to actually get what you pay for and more!! I would recommend them to anyone (as would our tenants).
Description of Work: As a real estate agent at a real estate and property management company, I received a call from a tenant at one of our properties complaining of a refrigerator that was leaking and ruining their food. I immediately got on Angie's List and called Don at Affordable Appliance. He gave me a reasonable quote and said that they could be out there the same day. Once the technician, I believe his name was Manny, called to say that the refrigerator needed a heater as it currently did not have one. The price he quoted was reasonable so I authorized the installation. They completed the job in great time and most importantly our tenants were thrilled with them. Said they were very professional and nice. That speaks volumes in my business. Thanks for taking a bad situation and making it much easier.

Description of Work: Changed digital clock/display on Jenair Built in oven. clock was expensive due to the brand. Manny explained the problem did the work and explained what not to do in the future so the same problem does not happen. He also checked the washer (motor) which was making loud screeching noise. Cleaned the drainage to see if something was stuck there. Started the washer multiple times to see if the noise returned and gave 1 month free return service warrenty if problem comes back. Saved money on replacing the motor ($95) and see if it really needs to be replaced.
