Done at cost of estimate; quality of screen door was better than the original builder-installed door. So far so good.

He was here on time, even called when he was on his way. He assessed the issue with the door frame, told me what he needed to do. An hour later the door is better than new and the fixed panel has been modified such that the "tight fit" issue will not be a problem in the future. This was not a "make it work" fix. It was repaired correctly. I recommend him with no reservations!
Description of Work: Jim repaired the rollers on the slider to my patio door. This after two other door repair guys took a look at it and said they'd call back and return, but never did. It was a difficult job because the bottom of the frame was high in the center. This required re-sizing the fixed panel before re-installation. I'm certain it didn't work this well when it was new.

Called to replace screen door. Came out and replaced it and it glided very well. However, When we first started using the screen door itself only in the spring, we noticed lots of bugs coming through and discovered that they did not install properly. There was a half inch gap between the screen at the end and the part that meets the glass. Called them and he came out to replace but was late, and took an hour off of work, but had to leave. Called him again to reschedule, but he didn't return about 3 calls until I said I was going to leave the feedback on Angieslist. Then, he called right away and came out after about a week and put on the guard at the end of the screen door. However, right after the guard was put on, the screen door glides easily only half way and for some reason gets stuck midway while opening. Then, you have to push it really hard to open it all the way. The guy said that's the way it is with the bug guard. So why did we even get this when our previous screen rolled fine and there was just a hole it. They should have fixed it correctly.
Description of Work: On the contrary, the bug flap was NOT installed. i would like him to install the bug flap. I called several times and no return call.

Response from Slide Right
Due to my previous excellent record with other Angie's List members, I was surprised to see this rating. I will respond and clarify some information given by this particular member. The screen was installed and she is correct, the tech I sent out did not put the bug flap on (a simple mistake unfortunately) so I made an appointment with her at 8:30 per the customer's request and I was happy to oblige since a mistake was made on our part. Her house is a 2 hour drive from our site and I usually don't make appointments on that side of town that early because of traffic but again, I made an exception for her. I called 20 minutes before the appointment time to tell her traffic was bad and I would be 15 minutes late. There was no answer so I left a message. I showed up at the Guard Gate and had no code so I called again and she informed me that her husband left as I was not there at 8:30 sharp. I told her I called prior to the appt. and left a message. She said that was HER phone number and her husband was the one there, I was never given her husbands number..she had no response to that. She wanted me to come back later and I was unable to as I had other customers I made appointments with in advance. We set up another appointment on that day for a future date that worked for her. She called me numerous times to keep confirming prior to the appt. When I went out there, her husband was very pleasant and I put the flap on. At that appt. I informed her husband of my concerns that there was a hump in the house foundation therefore it made the door catch at the back. He said it was fine. The next contact I had regarding this appointment was from Angie's List informing me of the negative report. Unfortunately, it seemed that nothing I could do for this customer could make her happy. I have not had this problem in the past, we have an excellent record and our customers are happy with our punctuality and outcome of the work on their homes, etc. This customer was also untruthful about the price we charged. The price for the door was $190.00, not $276.00. I do not have a screen door that I charge $276.00 for.

They came the week before and gave us a very fair estimate. Returned the following week to fix the broken patio pane of glass. They were very neat and kept the area clean. The screen door they installed works well and is very sturdy. He also suggested we put new rollers on our sliding door which we did and now the door works 100 times better. They were very kind to my two small boys who were very curious. I would use them again.
Description of Work: They replaced a broken patio window, installed a new screen door, and put new rollers on the sliding door.

Repairman showed up right on time, it took him very little time to perform the diagnosis and as he did it he explained the elements of the door and what performance was linked to what component. He showed the components he'd be replacing and made it clear why the door would perform better. He was very knowledgeable and obviously had done this type of repair many, many times. We were thrilled at the results. The door could be closed using just one finger!!! (in fact, it opened & closed so easily we had to warn people that it was now fixed & they didn't need to use so much force!!)
Description of Work: Repairman diagnosed what was causing the sliding glass door to move so heavily - it was almost impossible for my wife to open it. Then, based on the diagnosis he recommended a repair and quoted a price. We okayed the repair & price. He took the door off its track, cleaned out the track, and installed new set of rollers (4 at each point instead of just 2 - which made a dramatic difference in off the door operated), and re-installed the door.

Called on a Tuesday and detailed the problem and gave the brand & model of sliding door. Set a time for the next day. Serviceman showed up right on time. He went to the door and detailed all the likely causes of the slow & sticky operation and gave a quote on what it would take to fix. I gave the ok to do the work and he went to work - very efficiently did the job. In less than an hour he had the door moving with just one finger (in fact it moved so easily we had to put a sign on the door so friends who came over didn't slam the door into the frame by opening it with the heft that it used to demand!!) Very satisfied with the service and with the replacement hardware containing the new wheels. (I'm an engineer and I could clearly see the difference in the design and manufacture of the original set of wheels compared to the new ones. The new design that the serviceman installed was much superior to the original design.)
Description of Work: Cleaned up the trough and rail that wheels run on, then replaced the wheels with new, precision machined ones with sealed bearings and raised the frame of the sliding glass door.

There was a missing Arcadia door going out to the patio on the back. He said he would let us know if we needed to replace the whole thing. He only had to replace a part of it eventually. Such work is really expensive, but he charged us only for what was necessary.

Southwest Patio Door was my first call to get bids and and they turned out to have the lowest bid. One other company met their bid but I called them, since they gave it to me first. They showed up on time and took the measurements, called me when the glass was ready and came out when they said they would to install the new glass. The workmen were professional and curtious. I also liked that when they asked me if I wanted them to replace my rollers I said, "Only if necessary". The workman said he was sure it would be as it was running rough but on putting the door back in said, "the rollers were fine" and did not replace them, so I saved $60. I've experienced others who would have just replaced the rollers anyway, saying they needed it, and charged me. My only complaint is neither door they took off went back on quite as they were so did not close and latch properly until they worked on them again. They did take care of the problem however.

While cost increased from $145 for roller replacement to $376 for rollers and sliding track replacement, he spent the time to level the track and shim it in uneven places, and then worked to eliminate a couple of areas where the new track was creaking as the door passed over it. It is now like new, and I think better than the original rollers and track from when the house was built 12 years ago.
Description of Work: Sliding patio door had become very difficult to open or close. Russ said he would replace the rollers and did. Once on site he also suggested the sliding track should also be replaced as it was uneven and scrape marks were visible across a 12" section.

Russ arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m. as promised. It took an extra half hour because the slider had to be trimmed at the top. This was an unexpected extra $25.00, but necessary and worth it. The door has never opened this easily and my fears of getting a hernia (seriously) when opening the door to go outdoors are no longer a worry!

Jim is so pleasant. He arrived on time and quickly replaced the rollers on our 28-yr-old sliding glass door. He had been out the prior year and replaced the rollers on our family room sliding door and they worked so well that I definately wanted him to fix our other sliding door. He mentioned that he could have a screen door made that would work much better than our old beat-up screen door. He arrived the following week with the new screen doors and they work great and even lock! Now it's so easy to open our sliding doors. I don't have to vacuum the track very often as it still works even when it has debris in it. What a great improvement to our daily life. Wish I had known about him 15 years ago!

When the repairman examined the door, he said he could indeed fix it--and he did, in just about 20 minutes. It's as good as new for what we considered an excellent price. My mother-in-law was a very happy camper--and very surprised at how good the experience turned out to be.
Description of Work: A patio door at my mother-in-law's house was out of alignment; part of the rubber in the track was exposed, and the door no longer functioned as it ought to. My mother-in-law sought our help because she knew we belong to Angie's List. We settled on Southwest Patio Door Repair after consulting the list. When my mother-in-law described the problem to the company, its spokesman was not certain they could fix it--but promised to come out promptly and take a look.

Jim, of EZ Glide, got back to me within an hour of my calling, and came out the very next day to do the work. He was delayed 20 minutes, so he called to let me know. He told me the price options over the phone and really did a great job. I would definitely use EZ Glide again and recommend them to others.

I was in a bind as I had no time to repair the rollers on a sliding door. I've done it before on other doors, and after coming up empty at other companies, I found Southwest Patio Door Repair on Angie's List. They answered the phone when I called and went to the property the same day to view the door and figure out which rollers go on the door. They came back the next day and entered the rental property with a lock box and fixed the door. I handled everything over the phone. They only charged my $140 for the repair and charged my Visa. It is nice to know that there is someone that comes to your home the same day and repairs something instead of getting told the door has to be replaced. It is nice to save some money. Thank you for everything! I would recommend SWD to anybody.

We were fortunate to have a person on site the same day we called! The fellow who repaired the door knew exactly what the problem was and was able to repair the door within just a couple of hours. In addition to having worn rollers, the track was bent. Both were replaced and we are thrilled!

Phoned office and Jim came out next day slightly before time booked after checking to make sure that was alright. Quickly established problem and fixed with new parts within 45 minutes. Cleaned up thoroughly and looked at a couple of other doors to see if they were likely to cause problems in the near future. Said there was no need to worry for foreseeable future. Price of $135 included parts and labor and was exactly what he estimated. Very courteous and personable. Will use again for some new screen doors.

Kurt arrived within the appointment time frame. He was courteous and efficient. Fortunately, just my rollers needed replacing. Because the replacement rollers were a higher quality and durability (thus larger), Kurt said he would need to reduce the door frame a little, which would cost an additional $10. This seemed a reasonable cost to me. I asked how he evaluated the track for needing replacement, and he described what to look for. After taking off the door, he cleaned the built-up gunk from the track, even asking for some cleaner and towels to do a thorough job. He was done with the entire job within an hour. The door moves so smoothly now, I put up a sign so my boys didn't jerk the door off the track on their first use! When I was examining the work, I noticed our screen door had a tear (from our dog). Kurt offered that Ace could replace the screen for a reasonable price. I was impressed because he didn't try to use the situation to get another job out of me, but instead offered advice that was in my best interests. (Note: He didn't lose any business for Southwest Patio as the screen repair is definitely a hubby-type job!) Overall, very positive experience. Would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Our patio door was incredibly hard to open, requiring our entire weight. Figured it was the rollers, hoped it wasn't a problem with the track. Russ immediately answered the phone on my first call. He quoted me $145 if it was the rollers and $275-$400 for rollers and track. He said repair would take 1-2 hours depending on the work needed. I was able to make an appointment for the next day.

It went great. We live out of town and relied on Russ to coordinate with our renter. He was prompt and courteous during all our telephone calls and he was always on time. He had the door repaired when I arrived into town and he made sure that he installed the new screen door while I was there. He was also kind enough to help me properly ascertain the measurements of a window so that I could order a screen from a hardware store. Russ made an initial trip to the house and called me to go over his estimate. His billings were right in line with the estimates he had provided. I would call upon Southwest Patio Door Repair and Russ again for sure!! Thank you and thank you Russ!
Description of Work: We have a townhouse built in 1967 which still has the original patio door. The track was worn and the door was very wobbling and loose. We weren't able to install a screen door because the original flat handle had been replaced by one that stuck out too far. We had looked and were never able to find another flat handle. Russ replaced the rollers, repaired the track and installed a new screen door, as he had a flat handle that would allow for the screen door to operate property.

Jim arrived exactly on time. After helping me move a rug and some furniture out the way, he went right to work and had the job finished in an hour and a half, with no ifs ands or buts. I warned him that my cats were indoor only and he made a point of watching out for them while he worked. My front door sticks and, as he was leaving, he told me how to fix that myself, as well. What a guy!
Description of Work: My kitchen patio door required the weight of my entire body to slide it, back and forth, (with a loud grating sound). (no fun with back problems and bilateral tennis elbow) Jim replaced the rollers and did some work on the frame to correct settling. I can now operate the door, silently, with one hand!!! (He also looked at a window that opens the wrong way for its placement, but judged it a problem for a window specialist.) I'm so impressed that I'm having him return to work on the living room door as well.
