Description of Work: Joe Shipley remoted into my computer to speed it up and get it going again. It was so slow I could have breakfast from when I turned it on and when it was ready for me. I watched as Joe used TeamViewer to work on my system and delete a ton of junk I didn’t need. Joe told me that by removing about 900 MB of junk and some 10,000 files I didn’t need the system would run faster. Does it ever! He also walked me through my startup files and disabled the ones I never use to get it to start much faster. We updated things that needed updating and removed a lot of the stuff that my computer maker put on the system that I never used nor needed. He then created a Restore Point when he was done so that I could always get my computer to revert to the way it was after Joe cleaned it if I need to in the future. Joe showed me how to update my antivirus program and installed other software to keep the bad stuff out of my system.

Description of Work: For a number of weeks, I had been having an off and on problem getting online. It was intermittent, but it started occurring more frequently. In addition, even though my computer is only about a year old, it was incredibly slow. I got Joe's contact info from a friend and made the call. I intended to leave a message, but he picked up and we off and running. I can't give you all the details of what he did because the list is long. The first thing he did was to download a remote access program to my computer so he could view my computer. He then downloaded a search program that looked for errors and other bad things; downloaded a cleaner program that deleted and removed 33,000 unneeded files; fixed 200+ registry errors; installed a malware program which found 60 problems that it removed and disabled a number of programs not needed at start-up. Now, my internet access problem is gone and my computer runs much faster.

Description of Work: Joe Shipley walked me easily through the process to enable his remote access to repair what ailed me -- my computer!! He cleaned out all of the unnecessary files, configured my printer, and repaired my sound -- all while he was talking me through each step over the phone. I will definitely hire him for all of my future computer needs.

Description of Work: I joined Angie’s List last week, specifically because my mom’s computer had a virus. After taking it to data doctors and being given an estimate of $200+ and no guarantee of being able to restore program files, I decided to try Angie’s List for recommendations. I reviewed several companies, and even though Smart Ideas had only been on Angie’s List for a few months, I liked the reviews I read and decided to give them a try. I am so happy that I did. I don’t think I could have made a better choice! I called Joe about my mom’s computer on Wednesday afternoon. After discussing the problem with him, he felt it would be best for me to bring the computer to him. I took the computer to him the next day. He had given me an estimate of $120-$150 before he even got a chance to examine the computer, and he also agreed he would give me his senior discount since it was my mom’s computer. When I dropped the computer off, I asked Joe to give me a call if the estimate would increase once he was able to determine the problem. Joe cleaned up the computer, finding several infected files from malware. He didn’t find one particular virus, but spent several hours restoring the way windows communicates with the programs. We had been unable to open most of the computer programs on the computer; they would open to wordpad files with gibberish instead. Even though Joe spent much more time fixing the computer than originally anticipated, he never increased the cost and, with the senior discount, he only charged us $127.50. And we did not lose any programs or personal files!! Joe also showed me a couple of programs that would help keep the computer cleaned up and malware in check. As if that wasn’t enough, I mentioned to Joe that my mom and dad would call me when they were having any computer issues, and though I am usually competent enough to fix these issues, I am not a technical person, and if I can’t see their screen, it is very difficult for me to help them over the phone. I live about 30 minutes from them, so it is also difficult for me to get to their house with my work schedule, and it is sometimes several days before I can look at their computer to help them resolve even minor issues. Joe showed me a program called team viewer that, once installed on our computers, would allow me to remotely view and operate their computer so that I could see what they are seeing and be able fix it quickly without having to be there in person. I am so excited about trying this out, I almost can’t wait for the next phone call to come from my mom with a computer problem!

Description of Work: Joe is fantastic. Brought Joe my laptop that wasn't booting up. By that evening he called said it was up and running. Joe took time to explain what happened what he did to correct the problem. My laptop is running great. I also had Joe add more memory to speed up the laptop. Had such a great experience, I brought my daughters computer in for a checkup? We were so impressed by Joes work, I took some of his business cards to hand to friends and neighbors. Thanks Rick
