Joe did an excellent job for us. I had never worked with a service/company who could fix computers long distance (he in Arizona, me in Wisconsin), but he put me at ease right away. He was knowledgeable about cleaning up the laptop and patient while explaining everything to me that he was doing. It was a pleasure doing business with him!

Joe did a great job, and I highly recommend his services! From my first call to set up an appointment through his remote completion of the task, he was friendly, patient, helpful, and thorough. His efficiency in providing instructions for me to get my laptop ready for his attention saved me time and money. I was able to follow his clear directions and accomplish a few time-consuming tasks ahead of time so that he could focus on tasks requiring his expertise. Joe was quite knowledgeable and informative as he provided answers to my questions as well as explanations and suggestions of his own. Not only did he clean up, speed up, and reorganize my computer, but he offered advice that I continue to follow. I enjoyed our discussion while he analyzed my laptop, and I learned a lot as well. Joe will be my first call if I have any computer issues in the future. P.S. My apologies for taking so long to complete this review. As you can see from my recommendation, my delay is in no way a reflection on Joe nor the result of any reluctance or dissatisfaction on my part. Unfortunately, due to several back procedures/ surgeries I've had since Joe helped me out back in August, I've been incapacitated and unable to do this evaluation until recently.

He was fabulous! I was somewhat concerned with giving someone access to my computer who I didn't know, but I was comfortable that I found him on Angie’s List. He was great!

They talked to me over the phone on how to clean up my computer. He actually took the cursor and performed the clean up for me. I did not see much improvement after the clean up. He created a google account for me and put himself on my account incase I had any problems. If I wanted to get him off my google account I would have to pay at least $18.00. I contacted him a couple times and I never heard back from him.

It was a pleasure working with Joe,who was very knowledgeable, patient and professional. I was unable to get online and Joe removed many old unnecessary files.This entire procedure took several hours. I am now able to get back online.I am very pleased with this "Deal". I would definitely recommend "Smart Ideas" to anyone who needed assistance.

Joe contacted me in a professional time frame to set up the service. Once the service time and date were set, he called promptly and was very cordial, responsive to our personal needs and listened to our concerns. Joe took the first segment of time to address the issue of our external hard drive (where we kept all our personal items, pictures, etc.) files that had been "hidden" by some virus. He recovered all the files and gave good insight on a better way to ensure we don't loose any important files in the future. Secondly, he dove into the CPU and eliminated a ton of files and extra stuff that over time accumulates to increase the responsiveness and speed of the computer. He also gave good instructions on ways to "maintain" the computer going forward so the speed doesn't decline and the responsiveness does not diminish. It has been approx 1 week since the service and I highly recommend using Joe! I am a General Manager in customer service, his professionalism, integrity, knowledge and excellence were exactly what my wife and I look for in a service provider. Hats off to Joe for his service! He serviced my computer remotely and did a great job.

It went very well at the start, but had to chase him a little to finish. He did very well but not great. I think he had too much on his plate with many calls coming in.

Made on site visit. Worked through several issues and became familiar with our network. Most everything was resolved in the on site visit with balance of work performed remotely. He did a great job and was able to solve my issue. I had a virus on my computer and other smallproblems on my computer, but he was able to fix everything. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was very patient as well.

I purchased an Angie's List Deal for $59 for one hour of service and I needed an additional four hours of time. It took approximately five hours because of the run-times of everything. I was charged an additional $110 which was less than the cost of his four hours of computer service. I did not have any basic problems but I wanted to rid my computer of unnecessary "things" to make my computer run faster. Joe Shipley sent instructions of services to perform before the day of my appointment. Joe Shipley called at the exact time of our appointment and we started quickly after he asked me if I had any problems and what else I would like to have done. One problem that I had was my computer couldn't do a back-up to a DVD because of my numerous photo files. He suggested that I buy a stand-alone drive to attach to my computer. He did a great job of explaining what he was doing and asked questions along the way, i.e., if I wanted to keep certain programs, etc. He would always ask while he was performing the services if I had any questions. At the end; my computer did run better and had a faster start-up. Joe emailed me instruction sheets of programs that I needed to perform and when to perform them. Joe stated that if I had any problems to call him and if the problem took approximately 10 minutes - the service would be free. Very helpful with my questions and very knowledgeable. I would recommend his services even if you don't live in Arizona.

I got Joe Shipley of Smart Ideas from Angie's List... He replied immediately from email contact through Angie's List and arranged a time to talk further as he was not at home when he received the email... a quick, efficient phone call... He called back at the appointed time--which was an hour later the same day..and we proceeded to interact over the phone and computer. I could see all he was doing as he looked over my computer... he carefully and clearly explained what he was doing. I had trouble with my computer freezing up and with slow, slow startup and numerous other annoyances that made being on even email a thorough pain..I also had nuisance files that I didn' t know if I could delete. Unfortunately I'm not as computer savvy and fearless as I need to be... So I had to have him clearly explain what he was doing... He did it with clarity and patience.. He didn't waste time and was sometimes able to run a check while other programs were running to maximize efficiency.. He cleared up all the problems I was having and best of all emailed me instructions on how to maintain the computer and clear out viruses, etc. by following those. Such a kind thing to do and brilliant customer relations. I don't know of any other repair person who offers that. He said he was always available for followup if things weren't right.. that he guaranteed his work..I didn't need any follow up as things were great. I felt his price more than fair for all the things he did and the followup written instructions.. I had read the negative review of him on Angie's List and read his reply... I decided I liked the way he replied and discounted the negative review completely to go ahead and hire him... I'm glad I did... I found him generous with information, thorough, patient, time efficient and kind... He clearly knew what he was doing... he made sure that he was taking care of what I needed done and that I understood what he was doing every step of the way. I highly recommend him as he completely cleared up my computer problems. I would hire him again in a heart beat.

My husband were very pleased with the results we got from our computer "tuneup". Mr. Shipley was very professional and very nice to work with. He made sure that he addressed everything we were concerned about.

It went very well. Initial slow progress due to processes running on the computer. But as clean-up moved forward, Joe's progress was able to increase. Joe advised my about 40 minutes into the 1 hour session that he could do as much as he could in the hour or he advised me what additional service time would cost. I felt he was working as fast as the computer would let him. I elected to get the job done right and agreed to pay for more time. Very satisfied with the service received.

Good job -- just took longer (and cost more) than purchased service. He was very professional and offered opt-out at any point.

Very well. He did a great job in getting our old laptop working well again. The whole job took a few minutes over one hour, but you have to have downloaded 4 pieces of software and run 3 different cleaning programs in advance of the appointment. He provides the information and instructions on how to do this in advance of your appointment, and this went off without a hitch. This "homework" is to pre-clean the computer of viruses, malware, and other known problems, as well as to defrag the hard drive. This piece took much longer than I expected (several hours), but I did it on my own time throughout the day before our evening appointment (i.e., I would let a program run for several hours and check back frequently to see that it was going well or that it was complete). The good part is that, once he gets on the computer, he can be very fast to clean and check areas that are not checked by these commercial programs. Also, you can use these 3 cleaning programs later on a routine basis to keep your computer from developing problems. Had I not run the programs in advance, there would have been no way to get the cleaning done in the introductory one hour ($59 special). Indeed, even if you run the programs and are fully ready to go for the appointment, he advised that most computers take 1.5 to 2.0 hours to clean. So, just be aware of that. That being said, it takes what it takes, right? I mean, he was super fast working through the various drives, directories, and folders and it takes that length of time because that is as fast as the computer can go. We had a little unexpected glitch at the end, when rebooting to accept all the changes, but he stayed with me and worked that issue for about 10 minutes past the one hour introductory period and did not charge me. I recommend this service, especially if you have a computer that has not been well maintained and could use an "overhaul", so to speak. Figure that it will take 2 hours of his time (after you do your part) and that it will cost you about $200, but that beats buying a new computer. If we can get 1-2 years more out of our old laptop, that will certainly have made the cost worthwhile (especially at the introductory price). If you use your computer a lot (e.g., for work every day) and for very important things, and if speed is very important to you, then doing this once or twice a year would make sense (consider it a cost of your business). For a home computer like ours, I would recommend that you do your best to keep it clean with regular maintenance and use his services when you see a degradation of performance. So, again, I recommend this service under the conditions I mentioned above and will have no hesitancy using it again. Neither should you, just so long as you do your 'homework" in advance and get the computer cleaned up before he gets on the phone and internet with you (so you don't have to pay him for the time to do what you can do).

Joe Shipley was on time and a very caring individual. A professional that was very courteous. He was able to educate me and put some free downloads on my computer that will certainly help me in the future. I realize that my problems weren't significant, never the less I was very pleased. I would not hesitate to use him again.
