Description of Work: I had a fairly new HP Netbook that was experiencing assorted and mysterious issues causing signfiicant slowing of processes and assorted data issues. After extensive attempts to remedy the issues myself I had to consider a professional and Joe Shipley / Smart Ideas fit the bill perfectly. Joe sent me advance 'homework' that I could choose to do (I did, very easy to understand instructions) which helped reduce the time necessary to analyze the machine. Description of Work: Joe brought my family desktop back from the dead a few months ago...this time I needed him to fix my daughter's laptop; a complicated nasty virus. He worked the problem and went over and above to return the laptop to normal. He may be 3000 miles from where I live, but I can count on him and trust to always get the job done.

Description of Work: Nice guy, highly capable, reasonable pricing...what more could I want? The Problem: 'Webshots' is converting to 'Smile' and the changeover files they sent wiped my old Webshots and is now hung up trying to install the Smile software. I just want my old Webshots back but when I tried to restore my computer to last night's backup, it refused and gave me nothing except couldn't do it. Joe was able to connect to my computer and by using a variety of approaches, found the one that restored my old Webshots exactly as it had been. He was very savvy and knowledgeable about many ways to do this and, in a very short time, he found the right stuff. I am completely amazed and gratified that there is such a wizard available with so little trouble and absolutely such a charming gentleman.

Description of Work: First of all, let me say Joe was kind enough to honor my coupon even though it expired in August; I'm not surprised because Angie's list attracts some really wonderful vendors and Joe is among the best. He called promptly at the appointed time and walked me through the setup process so he could access my computer; this guy really knows his stuff. I know just enough to be dangerous, that's how I know Joe knows his stuff :) My laptop is old - 9 years old - I bought it used over a year ago but Joe still knew how to get to the root of the problem. Our time ran over and he forged ahead to confirm the problem and the fix and even gave me advice on where to go get an affordable conversion drive to solve my problem. The laptop would have been useless to me without his help as I bought it for a specific reason and wasn't able to use it for that reason. Great help at a time I needed it most! Thanks, Joe

Description of Work: I bought a deal on Angis's list for a computer clean-up. When I contacted Joe he got back to me promptly and we were able to set up a time that would work for us. He was there right on time (on the phone) and he was able to remotely get rid of all kinds of things on my computer that I hadn't used in years and were just taking up space. It was a good experience, I didn't have to take my computer apart and take it someplace. We did it while I was home one morning. My computer is working much better now.

Description of Work: I spent a very interesting and useful 2 1/2 hours with Joe on the phone as he cleaned up and fine-tuned the settings on my desktop computer, including installing and running anti-malwear and cleaning softwear, removing unneeded services, files and programs, and disable unneeded startup files. Joe also spent time showing me how to link cells in Excel and questions I had about my scanner software and word formatting. I have every confidence in his abilities and commitment to satisfying his clients and highly recommend him to others. Thank you, Joe!

Description of Work: Joe performed a thorough pc tune up that inreased the speed of my computer. Before I called him, I thought I would need a new desktop...In an hours time, my 3yr old machine became a speed demon. Joe worked on screen after screen after screen and installed some great free software as well! Great job.

Description of Work: Fabulous working with Joe. I had a disk boot error on my main PC at home and was constantly having to restart the computer to get it to work for just a while. Joe returned my call promptly, diagnosed the problem, ( a hot running processor) could have fixed it for about $300 but instead recommended getting a new system (about $500) as mine was over 5 years old and something else would eventually go wrong with it. He helped me pick a system that would meet my requirements, I went and bought the system and he transferred everything without a hitch. I picked up my new system, installed a couple programs and am now back up and running. Joe called the next day to follow up and make sure everything went well. Overall a great experience. Description of Work: I purchased this offer for my nephew in Mesa, who has a knack for downloading viruses. Joe Shipley let my nephew drop his laptop off at his place in Mesa. Joe went above and beyond the time for one session and did not charge me any additional fees, though I told him to let me know of any additional cost as I would be covering the cost. The laptop ran perfectly, and Joe outlined maintenance schedules and procedures for my nephew to follow. I work in IT (data, not hardware) and know how much time I would have spent on this problem. I'll use Joe the next time I have a problem with my own laptop!

Description of Work: I was having problems with my computer - i.e. operating very slowlly; screen freezing, no sound, etc. Joe was very patient, understanding; affable to work with and efficient and effective in dealing with me on this computer. At the end of the allotted hour - everything had been fixed! The computer was so much faster, I could open up documents that I couldn't before, I now had sound to listen to music and a bonus was that I had an icon on my screen entitlled "search everything" so I could find all my documents more easily. For those people who feel intimidated by a computer and need help....this is your man! :-)

Description of Work: Computer Clean Up, Tune Up and More!! I bought an Angie's Deal for one hour for 49 bucks and the outcome was great. Joe Shipley did a great job.

Description of Work: Joe used a program that allowed him to work on my computer remotely. He downloaded some useful free software for me, and deleted some programs and files that weren't needed. This really helped to speed up my computer and improve its performance. Most of the tasks I gave Joe he accomplished. He communicated clearly, was friendly, and was very punctual. After the session, Joe sent an e-mail to serve as a guide for maintaining his computer fixes. He was quite professional and thorough. I felt that he charged fairly, but was disappointed that he couldn't wrap up the session on time, and had to go into overtime. This resulted in an additional charge, above and beyond the Angie's List coupon amount. In his defense, Joe had warned me that this could happen, so at least it didn't come as a complete surprise. He wasn't able to fix an Excel problem I was having -- I had to figure that out on my own. When I realized that he had deleted the program I had used for backing up (I admit that I did consent to the deletion), Joe had to do a second session to set up a different back-up program for me, and charged me again at his full rate. Then, when he couldn't figure out why my external hard drive couldn't seem to accomodate the different back-up program, Joe advised me to buy a newer, bigger external hard drive, and volunteered to configure it for free. Having already paid a total of $187, I didn't want to spend another $160 for a new external hard drive, so I had my son-in-law show me a quick and easy way to back up using my old external hard drive. So, as it turns out, I didn't have to use Joe's back up program, even though I had to pay for it. All this only goes to show that no one's perfect, and not everything works out perfectly. I had a few snags with this first experience, but Joe did his best to iron out the wrinkles, and I don't think I was charged unfairly. Bottom line: Joe is very good at what he does. He is sharp, knowledgeable, and competent. If I need my computer tuned up in the future, I want Joe to do the work.

Description of Work: When I contacted Joe Shipley I was ready to throw my computer out the window. I told him that and he said to make sure no one was walking by! My screens kept freezing, the computer was extremely slow and it was hard to navigate from page to page. I thought it was my internet service and had them come out to try and figure out what was wrong, but they said it was my computer not the service. I set up a weekend appointment with Joe, which was very convenient for me and my crazy schedule. Even though he is out of state, he is able to perform work on the computer in real time. Unbeknownst to me, other things were accumulating on my computer clogging things up. From where he was, he was able to clean things up and get rid of all the junk that was making my computer work so bad. He is pleasant, easy to talk to, has a good sense of humor and he absolutely knows what he's doing. He is mindful of how much work can be done in an hour and will do as much as he can, there is no pressure. In my case, I had so much work to be done, it was worth it to me to have him clean up the whole thing and pay a little more. I would absolutely recommend Joe to anyone who needs work done on their computer, he knows his stuff!

Description of Work: My computer hard drive crashed and I had a local vendor restore the drive but I couldn't access my files from my backup drive. When I contacted Smart Ideas I was guided through the process which restored my files properly. The service was fast and efficient. Smart ideas performs the services distantly over the internet. When I contacted Smart Ideas they made an appointment to perform services and they were very prompt in keeping the appointment and performing the service.

Description of Work: My experience was very rewarding and rewarding. It took more time than planned on the original deal to get 9 years worth of damage out of my computer. We worked on it on Sunday for about three or four hours, then off and on over the few days. He was very patient and professional yet reassuring as we worked thru my antique computer. He removed viruses spyware and it is moving considerable better now. I will use him again.

Description of Work: I contacted Joe via email this morning to ask if he could help me with my ibook G4 that hadn't been updated for years. He wrote me back immediately saying he was unable to help me, but suggested I goggle "how to update my ibook G4" which I did right away. Not only was I able to speed up my computer, but to repair my nearly inaudible volume . I was just about to write Joe and tell him how happy I was when I received another email giving me a particular website that he thought would help. I was just amazed. How many service providers that aren't going to be paid would even bother to write back in the first place. I highly recommend Smart Ideas to everyone in nee of any type of computer service. I can assure you you won't be disappointed.
