Very pleased. Arrived on time, called 30 mins before arrival as they said they would. Personable, professional & able to answer questions. I wasn't sure about having Magic Touch return for the preventative maintenance because I became angry last time (felt each time they came out they wanted to sell upgrades and/or service that I didn't know if I needed). However, I was so completely happy with my A/C purchase/installation experience that I hated to switch companies so I went ahead & called. I'm glad I did & feel bad about the negative review I left on Angie's List last time. Since the free visits that came with the A/C purchase were up this gentlemen offered to sell me a service agreement. There were 3 levels of service available in the agreement, each at a different price. He explained well the differences & let me make my decision without trying to pressure me into a purchase. I opted to sign the agreement & will continue to have Magic Touch maintain the A/C unit that I purchased from them.

This review makes me so happy! I can no longer sign my name in my replies because Angie's List's automated system no longer allows the use of a persons name in a review (or it doesn't post), but you will know who this is as I'm the owner who originally met with you. I was so disheartened by your last review as I remember how pleased you were with the outcome of you new air conditioner installation and I felt like we blew it. Per my response last time, it's very important to me that we are informing all of our clients about any system enhancements or upgrades as they come on the market, but we never intend to come across as pushy. I try to make a point of training our technicians to explain "this is an upgrade" vs. "this is necessary" . For future reference, they will never be offended if you ask "Do I need this, or is this optional". They are paid by the hour not by commission, and they earn a good living, so you won't hurt their feelings if you are not interested in an upgrade. I do receive a few E-mails and phone calls a month from people that ask me "how come nobody ever offered me ____" and I have to explain that we do our best to walk the line of making people aware of the possibilities vs. coming across like we're always trying to sell things. Again, thank you so much for giving us the benefit of the doubt and I'm so happy to hear you felt better about things this time! After playing a bit of phone tag I was able to schedule an appointment at a time that was convienent to me. I was given a window of 3PM to 6PM on the scheduled day. At approximately 540PM on the day of my appointment I was called and told by the scheduled technician that he would not be arriving until an hour and a half after my scheduled window. I asked why I wasn't notified at the start of my window with an option to reschedule so I didn't have to sit and wait for nearly 3 hours before being notified. He claimed ignorance noting that someone from the office should have called and let me know. I suppose if that were the case it would have made his call redundant? Because of prior obligations I was not able to wait for 1.5 hours after my scheduled window for Magic Touch Mechanical to show up so I cancelled the appointment. I called to speak with a Supervisor, wanting to understand how this could have happened and reschedule. I reached the answering service and was advised I would receive a call back. This incident occurred over 10 days ago and I'm still waiting to speak to that supervisor and have yet to reschedule my visit. It's a shame....after having Magic Touch Mechanical do some work for me last summer and doing an acceptable job I was hoping they were different. I can live with the inconvenience of the missed appointment but it's hard to overlook the fact that there has been a complete lack of respect for my time. What would have happened if the shoe was on the other foot and the tech showed up as scheduled and we were not home? I have given them ample time to correct the issue and I have heard nothing. Extremely disappointed.

their service man came to our house to do an inspection on our air handler and 5 ton ac/heating unit. According to him, we needed to change both fans and it would cost $1700 to do so. His advice though was to change the whole system at a cost that would range between 8 and 15,000$. We asked another well known company in the Valley to give us a second opinion. They inspected the entire system and told us that one of the motors needed to be changed at a cost of 400$. Once this part changed, they did another evaluation and told us that everything was fine. I've asked them how much it would cost to change the system eventually with a more energy efficient system... again, for the exact same models Magic Touch quoted us for, they were well below their price... I'm not impressed at all by their service and quotes!
Description of Work: AC/Heating unit did not work. We asked them to check the system to see what was wrong.

We are very disappointed to read this review. As you can see, well over 500 Angie's List Members have posted wonderful reviews about their experience with our team, earning us 11 Super Service Awards in the 10 years we have been on the list. The technician who performed your diagnosis is specifically named in many of these reviews. Our technicians are paid hourly so have no reason to suggest parts should be replaced that shouldn't be, I have personally reviewed the checklist and measurements recorded by the technician and your other motor is very clearly operating outside of manufacturer specifications. I'm curious, when that other motor fails, if you will update your review? Will the other company receive poor grades in every category for not finding the problem when your unit breaks down and it is 110 degrees? With regards to our pricing, again I will point to many, many, satisfied Angie's List member reviews going back a decade. Our pricing is very competitive with other companies of our caliber. As with anything in life, you get what you pay for and can always find someone to do it cheaper...and probably for less money too. For the record, we have new equipment installations that range from $4,500 to $12,500 just like every other HVAC Contractor in the Phoenix-Metro area. Again, we're sorry to be the bearer's of bad news, but you called us to diagnose what was wrong with your HVAC system, and then shot the messenger.

Roy was awesome, very professional, knowledgeable, and easy to talk with. He took his time and made sure everything was correct. He did an awesome job, so well, I went straight to Angie's List and bought a tune--up deal for my air conditioning system. Overall, dealing with Magic Touch was a pleasure. The scheduler and contact person(s) were always polite and professional, including putting me on hold briefly to ensure correct answers were given to more complex questions. This was appreciated. The crew (two men) that arrived to replace the duct were polite, professional, and efficient. They removed the cooler from the side of my house, dug out the old corroded duct, formed the new duct, coated said duct, installed it (including going under my house, which is a manufactured home, to join the new hard duct with the 18" soft ducting under the house), reassembled and replaced the cooler to the house. I live adjacent to AZ State Trust Land, so rodent intrusion is always an issue, and the guys from Magic Touch made sure to seal the cooler up tight, which was also appreciated. The only potential comment I have that I would like to have seen be slightly better, was that after everything was reinstalled, we ran the cooler briefly to make sure everything functioned as it should as we noted a harmonic hum that seemed abnormally loud. One of the techs was the one that noted it and asked me if it was "normal." I said it seemed a bit louder than normal, but I was so happy to have a functioning eval cooler again, I said it wasn't a big deal, as it was NOT. The cooler worked. However the next day when I ran the cooler all day and realized you could hear this hum throughout the entire house, I decided to check it out further. After removing the top of the cooler I found that moving the cooler around had jarred the bracket that held the drum fan motor slightly so that now the motor housing was in direct contact with the cooler housing, which meant that the normal hum of the electric motor was being transferred through the solid connect of the swamp cooler to and thru the house. A few minutes with an open end wrench and the problem was solved. It would have been nice if the techs had taken the initiative to solve this issue since they did notice it, but since I maintain the cooler myself fixing this minor issue was not a big deal. This is the reason that I rated their "Professionalism" as a "B." However, overall I was very pleased with their work and dealing with the company so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them or hire them again in the future myself. I am confident that if I was not able to solve the minor issue myself and I called up Magic Touch, that they would have sent out a tech to fix the problem for me without issue.
Description of Work: Replaced the hard duct that exits the bottom of our evaporative cooler and goes into the ground into foundation to join soft ducting under the house.

It went well. The new unit works perfectly. The only minor issue was that the cleanup was a bit rushed but the guys came back when I mentioned it, and a very thorough cleanup followed. I was very happy with the quick response and great follow up.
Description of Work: Old heat pump removed and new one installed. Also had additional insulation put in the attic.

Gentleman was very nice and polite. he was extremely overwhelmed with the long 12 hour days he had been working. Quality of the work was just okay - really don't notice notice much different in the clearness of the glass...still very foggy. When I agreed to the additional work I was told they had a selection of different rock to choose from - as it turns out they only have gold...would not have paid the extra $200 for the additional work if I had known that ahead of time.

We're disappointed to only earn a D review after letting you know the following, which was also written on the technicians invoice: Regarding the "rock", I believe you are referring to "fire-glass" which comes in several dozen colors, shapes, and sizes, - they are on our website on the Photo Gallery page under the About Us tab. What you are referring to are "burning embers" these only come in gold but are not the same as fire-glass. With regards to the glass on the front of the fireplace itself, the technician informed you and wrote on his invoice that "after attempting to clean the glass several times" it was determined the "coating on the glass is failing" which is causing the hazy appearance. He proposed replacing the glass, which had to be ordered directly from the fireplace manufacturer. When we called you back with pricing to replace the glass and your request to add additional lava-rock, you stated you were going to "call around to get other quotes". The last notes we have in your file state we were waiting to hear back from you. We are sorry you were so disappointed, but feel we provided you with all the information and best possible service we could under the circumstances. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have and hope you will reconsider the grade you've given us as well as the opportunity to show you why so many other members give us such high marks.

Arrived at appointed time. Fireplace would sometimes go out after flaming for several minutes, so thought cleaning would help. Was informed no service, including the contracted cleaning, could be performed unless a "diagnostic" was conducted first for an additional $90. I agreed to the additional charge and the service man cleaned/vacuumed the fireplace. No additional charge for parts, so no idea what was result of "diagnostic". Ad says cleaning the fireplace glass is not included, but will do for additional $130 charge (expensive "because of the chemicals we have to use"). He used a commercial product called Rutland White Off Glass Cleaner which can be purchased on line or from ACE hardware for seven dollars and 59 cents. Cleaned the glass on my family room floor with just a few squirts of the liquid and wiping with a rag - great bargain for $130. Serviceman appeared to have no knowledge of what is promised in the ad - didn't offer to check any smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors, and didn't do any inspection of the exterior vent "chimney" cap, even after I showed him it is on side of house and accessible by 12 or 14 foot ladder (which he had on his truck). If your fireplace is not in pristine working order, expect to pay additional $90 or more for "diagnostic" before service will proceed with cleaning your fireplace as contracted through Angie's List.

We're sorry to hear you were displeased. Please note we were running both a diagnostic/repair & a separate tune-up/cleaning fireplace deal simultaneously, unfortunately you purchased one for tune-up/cleaning which stated diagnostic for repairs was an additional fee. We inform everyone upfront when they call to schedule service that we can only perform a tune-up on a functioning fireplace. As with a car motor, if your engine isn't running the mechanic first needs to troubleshoot and diagnose the problem before he can "fine tune" it, or clean it. We would be happy to return and perform the tasks the technician didn't offer to do - and for that our sincerest apologies as that shouldn't have happened! With regards to costs, please understand that there are many direct and indirect costs involved in running a service business that makes house calls - we ask a fair and competitive compensation for our services which are in line with similar businesses. I believe if you call around for fireplace repair you will find our pricing to be amongst the lowest you will find. Again please let us know if you would like another technician to come inspect your chimney cap and smoke/CO detectors - we'd very much like to deliver on our promises.

Not sure. I discussed an issue I was having with the remote control unit. they attempted to correct the problem but needed to replace the batteries in the unit. They did not have replacement D batteries so I provided batteries that I tested as good. did not solve the problem and they could not correct this issue. Asked about replacement of the gas valve with a manual valve and they said they would get back to me. When they left they attempted to explain why the gas unit would not ignite. Their explanation was incorrect and I showed they how to light the fireplace. They called back in a few days and indicated that replacement of the gas valve would be more than $1000. and the labor portion would be charged at $300 per hour. $300 per hour ....really?

I'm sorry your experience was less than ideal. I would be happy to speak with you about what transpired in more detail as well as have our Lead Service Technician come take a look at what is going on (no charge) and what we can do with the gas valve. I will discuss this with the technician who was there as I'm not sure what he meant would be $300 an hour??? We use flat-rate, upfront pricing so do not have a $300 an hour rate. He is a newer technician with the company so I think he misspoke and for that I again sincerely apologize. If you could call when you get an opportunity and ask to speak with the owner I will be happy to straighten things out.

I question the integrity of the service men that Magic Touch has sent to honor the maintenance on the a/c unit I punched in 2015. I know nothing about a/c units & rely on the honesty of those I'm working with. I invited four A+ Angie's List rated companies into my home & chose Magic Touch to purchase my unit from. I was very happy with everything in the initial purchase/installation. It came with a 2-year service agreement. The very first time I had it serviced the gentlemen tried to sell me something (I don't recall what) to upgrade my unit so "it would work more efficiently". I questioned that because I had just bought the unit Magic Touch themselves recommended for my home. I didn't buy bottom of the line. So why, if my purchase was exactly what I needed for my home, did I now need an upgrade to make it work more efficiently? I didn't buy it. The next time the service man told me the coils were very dirty & needed to be cleaned at an additional cost. I asked why they were so dirty when the unit was just a year old & if they get dirty that soon on a regular basis then cleaning should be included in the service. He required that I initial a form saying I declined a recommended service. The next time they came out, the same thing. Coils needed to be cleaned, had to initial that I declined & the service man tried making me believe that if I didn't have the coils cleaned it could cause damage to the unit. So, yesterday was the last service on my plan. The service man offered to sell me another upgrade & told me why I needed it. I found it odd that he didn't mention coils so I asked if he checked them. He said he did & they were very clean. Now how did the coils magically clean themselves? I've come to the conclusion that Magic Touch must pay commission for additional services/upgrades & must encourage their service men to try to get more out of the homeowner than is actually needed. Honesty apparently doesn't matter. Integrity is everything to me & I can't continue to do business with a company that has obviously lied to me in attempts to get more money.

Hopefully the following will clear things up: First and foremost, our technicians are paid by the hour and not by commission, I think it's important to clarify that upfront. I've reviewed your maintenance history and here's what I found: The first technician offered a Start Assist Kit. The unit you chose was not equipped with one nor is it a must, however it is a worthwhile upgrade for all the reasons he listed on the invoice. He also noted the coils could use cleaning. The next technician also noted the coils were "a little dirty - recommend cleaning". The most recent technician recommended an Air Scrubber (Indoor Air Quality) and Surge Protector - neither of which are necessary for the operation of the equipment but both are worthwhile upgrades which some people want. With regards to him stating the coil was clean, I discussed it with him and the last technician that was there. Please understand much of what these technicians see is subjective. Take a failed component - nothing subjective about it, but when it comes to how much dust build-up is too much...that is indeed a matter of opinion. I'm sorry you have this impression of these technicians now and hope this response helps. As the owner, and having spent time with you when you were first considering equipment, I can assure you the technicians here are not trained to sell, sell, sell - however they are very much trained to offer upgrades and system enhancements. What's important to some clients is not important to others, but I feel it's right to let people know what's available to them and let them decide for themselves. From what I read on the paperwork nobody offered anything that said it was a "must do".

Recv’ed txt reminder of appt the day before, office staff (I think it was Candace) was very personable & professional (as she always is) & was able to answer a couple questions I had. Service tech (Keith) phoned an hour prior to arrival with eta & arrived right on schedule. He was very personable, very thorough with explanation of what he was doing, asked good questions about how the unit was cooling & if any rooms hotter/cooler than others etc. Offered to have me come out & watch him replace a part so I would know for sure he did actually replace it (lots of scams out there).

I was very pleased with the his professionalism and found it to be a very useful encounter. I have never had a gas fireplace before and was concerned when I moved into the house that it might not work, or that it might even be dangerous, so he answered my questions and concerns. Now I use my fireplace often.

The technician had a very non nonchalant attitude, was not properly prepared for the job because he didn't have any parts or tools. There was a lot of back and forth in communication, and once communication was reached, the provider quoted us that it would cost an extra $500 to fix the issue. We decided to go with another provider, who only charged us $100 to fix the issue. I would not recommend them.

Unfortunately the ignitor you were interested in installing is not a normally truck-stocked item as more people are interested in adding a remote control as opposed to what you hoped to accomplish. While we stock many thousands of dollars in parts on our trucks, it is impossible to anticipate every SKU we will encounter...we do our best. Over $400 and it still does not work. There was an additional charge of almost $200 for a 18 inch long piece of copper 1/4 inch tubing. Retail a couple go dollars. I could have bought a new complete unit for a hundred dollars more than this cost. Logs in fireplace placed all wrong. Not very fair or professional. Never recommend!

Regarding the price for the "copper tubing", what I see in the notes was the replacement of special order parts specific to your model fireplace, not 1/4" retail tubing. This was an $89 big deal purchase. It has been so long ago I don't even remember but I think it was just fine. They did a good job. I don't have any remembrance of it being a problem. I have never had it done before so I don't know whether it was a good price or not. It was a reduced price from their usual price. They came on time.
