The offer from Angie's list states that glass cleaning would be an additional fee. When I called to schedule the appointment, I asked what the fee for glass cleaning would be. The customer service representative said that she did not have that information and that all the mechanics were out on service calls. When I asked her to check with a mechanic and get back to me with a price, she said that she cannot give this information over the phone. I was shocked since this is a simple request and competitors normally include this in their service call. I was willing to pay a small fee but wanted to know in advance what that fee would be. Based on this, I did not schedule an appointment.
Description of Work: Gas log fireplace inspection, tuneup and cleaning, and cleaning inside of glass which was foggy.

Please understand that the Customer Service Representative you spoke with schedules appointments but is not technical. Depending on the type of fireplace and condition of the glass, there is a price range for this service, hence the reason she was unable to answer your question. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused you. As you can see by our "A" rating and the overwhelmingly positive reviews we have from other members for our fireplace service, people are very satisfied with the results of the work and many have commented on the "exceptional value" By the way, even with the average glass cleaning, our price is lower than our competitors (especially with the Angie's List deal). I was not too impressed. The switch was working well before they worked. He was untidy. He left black finger prints all over the paint near the fire place. I would not use them again.

The prices were reasonable. We had some problems with it and they were pretty slow when they were out here to fix it. They put two whole new air conditioners for our house; one for the upstairs and one for the down stairs. They worked very diligently during the installation and it took them a long time and came by to do it at night.
Description of Work: We used Magic Touch for Heating & A/C services. We purchased a brand new system from them and they installed it.

From the start of the process to the end I was very impressed with Magic Touch. They have a very high rating and I understand why. They provided a very fair price, they custom made parts for My install in 2 days, were on time and made sure I was happy. They replaced two complete heat pump/ad units in 1 day and worked from 8am until 1 am the following day to ensure I was up and running. I highly recommend them

Good job on diagnosing the problem, however I felt a little taken advantage of because of the pat answers the tech gave when I questioned him on the pricing. In addition to replacing the start cap for $275.00 he recommended adding a run cap to the system which, in his opinion, would extend the life of our A/C system. When I asked the price he also quoted $275.00 for it as well. When I asked why it was so much he stated that it was just how they have them priced in their system. I had the money so I went ahead with both, but it just seemed to easy of an answer. I get that we aren't paying just for the parts but their skill and knowledge about the systems, but that is a lot to pay for skill when the cost for both of the parts was likely less than $75.00.

Please know that aside from the cost of the parts and and technicians skill and knowledge of the systems you pointed out, there are other important overhead items associated with the final price. Overhead includes fully-stocked vehicles with 30k worth of materials on them so we can get you up and running quickly, vehicle fuel and maintenance costs, several types of insurance and bonds, licenses, the warranty coverage of the parts and labor, the customer service reps and dispatchers who coordinate your service, and so forth. After all of the bills are paid to "keep the lights on", we must eek out a small profit so we are in business in the future when you need us again or to possible cover a failure of the parts we just installed which we back with a full one year warranty. HVAC Contractors like ourselves actually operate at much lower margins than most people think we do. We hope you will consider this and give us the opportunity to provide you with the "good job" we did this time again in the future. As the owner of the company, I can assure you we would never take advantage of your trust! Thank you again, your business is sincerely appreciated by the entire team and their families!

Have used this company for years but will no longer continue my business.
Description of Work: Service and repairs to ac units in home. Gave us worse case senario explaining we should buy new ac unit at $6000 plus or a minimum $2500 repair. Ultimately fixed for under $200 and still running strong. Units serviced few weeks after repair and again charged for minor repairs at $500. Few weeks later second ac unit started blowing hot air. Service tech came when I was not home even though time set up for when I would be home. Told me again I needed new unit and a minimum $2000 repair if didn't decide to replace unit. Obtained second opinion from reputable individual who found the service tech had tampered with wires and breaker to make it appear as though there was a worse problem. Ultimately only needed a new fan which cost $375.

Ty did the audit very professionally. provided me with written report and photos of what needed to be done on a priority basis . we did the most important first: seal air leaks in the attic between attic and living space; sealed large attic spaces where plumbing, electrical and drop soffits not previously sealed or sufficiently insulated. Sealed leakages on three HVAC equipment blower doors; Sealed supply plenum; and sealed one platform return, making them air tight. Replaced one "stamped face" return air grille with "Bar -type" grill. Ty and Kevin were excellent!
Description of Work: Energy audit. Determined the most important improvements to make my home more energy efficient.

"Good" salesman who put the fear of a/c failure & breathing nasty asbestos air into my mind. Sales person suspiciously irritated when i had questions and doubts about need for hefty recommended repairs and expense. I sought second opinion on pricing, vulnerability of damaging a/c, possible asbestos disruption when cutting into ceiling, and overall need for the many recommended, pricey services. Sought out 3 other opinions (all free and also listed as acceptable providers on SRP rebate program) and not a one recommended such extensive overhaul work...new return, new ducts, new elbow, new this and that. In fact, all only recommended the duct sealing as a need, and all assured me that if the a/c had not failed in 4-5 years because of "too small of ducts", it was unlikely to cause failure in the future...fan speed had been lowered appropriately for smaller ducts. Also, all bids on "sealing" duct work inc. sealing the existing air return were significantly less than the Magic Touch bid. I selected the provider "Affordable Energy Solutions" and the work was professionally, courteously, and, in comparison, inexpensively completed. In my opinion, always get 2-3 "second opinions".
Description of Work: Home energy audit as qualifying for SRP and APS utilities rebate of duct sealing, with recommendations and estimate for duct repairs and replacements.

You hired us to conduct a whole home energy audit, therefore we are testing and looking for all the deficiencies in your home, in other words you hired us to find the problems which is exactly what we did. The auditor is NOT a salesman he is a BPI Certified Building Analyst and BPI Certified Home Envelope Specialist who has conducted literally thousands of home audits. The facts he presented in his findings were not a matter of opinion, they were the results of the testing performed. Your duct work "static pressures" are SIGNIFICANTLY higher than manufacturer specifications and sealing the ducts without repairing that issue first will actually adversely effect them and make matters worse. With regards to asbestos, your utility REQUIRES we inform you of the possibility of asbestos when certain conditions exist...which they did. The bottom line is you told us from the beginning you wanted "cheaper options", we informed you of the right way to do things, and you continued to search until you found someone willing to do only a portion of what needed to be done. We wish you the best of luck but find your review to be VERY unfair. If ANYONE gave you the correct facts it was our auditor who did the actual testing to verify conditions...not just offered a free "opinion", a wrong opinion by the way as math is math. Thanks again. We had already had the chimney cleaned and the gas logs cleaned. It was a gas log fireplace and we wanted Magic Touch to put in a remote control. The gentleman that came out wasn't that familiar with doing a remote control. Then he had given us a price of $3,000. He thought we'd have to rework the way the gas line was, inside of this fireplace. We didn't do it because that was quite a bit. The guy was very courteous and pleasant to deal with. He said that the gas logs looked like they'd never really been used and that is true and neither had the fireplace for a lot of years. There wasn't really much he could do.
Description of Work: He just took a look at the gas log fireplace.

I looked up the notes the technician wrote on your options sheet and just wanted to make sure you knew there were three different options. The option to install a fireplace remote requires a new gas valve that will work with the remote. This option is $1378 and included the new gas valve, remote control, safety pilot and necessary gas pipe modifications. It was OK. I'm not really sure how to grade this. I purchased the big deal to have my fireplace cleaned. The fire had been going out intermitently. The service tech was prompt and very friendly. He cleaned the fireplace and found that two parts needed to be replaced so fire would stay lit. He replaced the parts. Packed up to leave and I could smell gas. He came back in and worked on it some more and thought he had it fixed. I thought I still smelled gas but maybe it was just residual. My husband tried to use the fireplace over the next week and the fire continued to go out. When I arrived home on Friday from a week on the road I smelled gas (faintly) when I walked in the house. I immediately called the service dept. The call service took a message. I expected an emergency call back. NOT! They finally called the next morning at 8 a.m. They sent a service rep out and he tighted something and now everything works fine. They did not charge for the return service which was good. I was bummed that the job wasn't done right the first time and that I had to have someone come back out.
Description of Work: I purchased the big deal to have my fireplace cleaned. Also have parts replaced and then had service come back to correct gas leak.

I personally spoke with our team members here to see where things went wrong and yes, the technician should've solved the problem on the first attempt and very much regrets that he didn't. This is not typical for him and he feels very bad about it. Not to make any excuses, as since we hire our answering service, they are an extension of us and therefore we are ultimately responsible, but to let you know why nobody called you back for the emergency call...there was a new employee at the answering service we use and instead of calling our emergency on-call technicians as she was supposed to, she sent an email to our office which isn't checked until the following morning. Andrew called to tell me what time he could arrive which was at the earlier of the range of estimated time which worked well for me. He was very professional and made sure he explained what he was doing. Andrew also made sure he the work area was covered so no damage to the home occurred. It went very well the technician was knowledgeable and very courtesy. The technician identified the problem in record time and made the repair. I must sat I was impressed. The technician was a US Navy veteran and received excellent training while on active duty. I'm a veteran also and served for over 28 years in the air force and I know military training when I see it. Trust me if you call and this technician is dispatched you are in very good hands. Over all rating "A". Will hire again.

BEWARE of this vendor. They do not give refunds even when their fault. In my case I wasn't given an option for a deposit, I was bill the entire $1,145. I mentioned the 50% savings on using my gas fireplace to a friend who told me to verify as he didn't believe this to be true. - I called 4 fireplace companies and SW Gas who all said there is no way I can reduce cost of running fireplace. I then called Magic Touch to cancel all work telling them I had been sold this valve and other work under false pretenses. I was then called by their head tech who reiterated that I would save 50% on running fireplace. I did not reinstate the order as I knew what he said wasn't true. - About 4 days later when I didn't receive my refund I called again. That evening I received an email from the co-owner, Michele Morgan stated she was sorry to hear I had "buyer's remorse" but that her company does not give any refunds. However she would make an exception and give me a partial refund, keeping $333 out of the $1145. -- I wrote back telling her again there was no product that can reduce gas costs. She then said I had NEVER discussed cost savings with her techs, that I had ordered the valve for aesthetics, safety, convenience, and maintenance. NOT TRUE - the ONLY reason for the order was to save costs. (Last yr my gas bill went up $80 for one month of using fireplace.) My fireplace is perfectly safe as is, pretty as is, and convenient as is. Their valve requires pressing a button for turn on flame,with mine I light a match which is certainly not difficult. And when does a valve get ordered for AESTHETICS ? - This owner is also saying I ordered a custom job with custom parts. This is a total LIE. The valve they ordered is one used in jobs she said she's done hundreds of times so there is nothing custom about this valve. -- Their "no refund" policy is on the back of invoice in small print. I thought I was signing for work done that day, and Yes, I should have read front and back. However, what I signed is voided because I was sold the products under false pretense. And there is no mention of multiple custom parts, - only one valve. There was only a total, NO breakdown of costs which is unusual. -Bottomline, I am filing a Vise dispute to get back the $333 back from this company. I'm wondering how they received so many A's on Angie's List. Were they the owners throughout their time on Angie's List?
Description of Work: Provider was here to clean fireplace which they did a descent job. I was discussing how expensive it was to run the gas fireplace. The tech said there was a valve that would cut that portion of my bill in half. This turned out to be totally false. He also said I needed to have two service calls a yr for the fireplace, also untrue but I took their "savings" contract starting next spring. They were also going to paint a metal strip across top of fireplace where paint had chipped off.

In answer to your query, “I'm wondering how they received so many A's on Angie's List. Were they the owners throughout their time on Angie's List?” - We are indeed under the same ownership for the last 17 years, and the “A” grade we’ve earned after 10 years being listed on Angie’s List, as well as the 5 Super Service Awards are the testament of over 450 member reviews. We refunded all of your money, with the exception of what was indeed special order parts and the shipping costs we incurred to order it on your behalf, as you waited until the part came in and WE CALLED YOU to schedule the installation before you cancelled…two weeks after you ordered it. Had you cancelled prior to that we might have been able to cancel the order from the supplier before incurring any costs. We are unable to return the parts for the very fact that they were special order, and only asked that you be responsible for the money we were now out due to your cancellation 2-weeks later. You were not misled to believe, as you stated, you were purchasing parts to “reduce operation costs by 50%”. You mention in your review the exact benefits discussed with you, by three people; “aesthetics, safety, convenience, and maintenance”. Aesthetics = (the painting you ordered – in the next sentence you state “the ONLY reason for the order was to save costs?”), Safety and Convenience = (the valve you ordered has “safety” in the name, you start and shut off the fireplace without ever being near a flame – at the touch of a button), Maintenance = (you ordered an annual cleaning and maintenance plan). Had you told us the “ONLY reason for your order” was to save costs, we would’ve advised you quite differently. In my experience, clients don’t order items like painting, etc. because their “ONLY” intention is to “save costs”. The reason we “have received so many A’s on Angie’s List”, is because we are fair and ethical. The reason we state no refunds on special order parts (in three places on both the front and back of the contract – quite conspicuously –despite what your review falsely states), is so we do not get stuck with a $300+ bill at no fault of our own, when someone has buyer’s remorse after we’ve already incurred the costs. I can’t recall another situation like this, as again, had you cancelled your order in a reasonable amount of time instead of waiting unit we called you back to schedule when the parts had all arrived, we would not be in this unpleasant position. On a final note, we did not charge you for any of the “common” items not specific to your fireplace, as we will indeed be able to use them for other jobs. First, as a note, I actually called the number associated with On Time AC & Heating, but was somehow connected to a Magic Touch Mechanical. Not sure if they're one in the same or what exactly happened there, but it all worked out in the end. The technician Rick called about an hour ahead of time to say he was on his way from across town. When he arrived, he quickly diagnosed the problem and set to work repairing it. Finished in about an hour. No more leak-yay! $84 on top of the base service call seemed a bit steep, it was just the connection of a few 1" pvc fittings, but oh well at least the air handler is no longer leaking water into our garage!

The issue; Charging $275.00 for the supplying and installing a $30.00 item that took less than 30 minutes to install. The installation went well, the technician was knowledgeable and immediately identified the problem as a failed capacitor within 10 minutes. I was told this is the most common failure for these air conditioning units and that he quite often replaces at least 1 per day. Being unfamiliar with air conditioning (I live in Alaska) I was not aware of the possible problems for air conditioning units so when I was told the cost for replacing the capacitor was $275.00 I agreed to have the work done. I asked for the defective capacitor and looked up the part number while the technician installed the new one. I soon discovered the price of the capacitor was no more than $30.00. Which means I just paid $245.00 for the technician to install it. I was told that the warrantee for this item is 90 days. I have since contacted other HVAC companies who warrantee the product for 1 year because the manufacturer of the product warantees it for a year. Keep in mind MagicTouch charges $75 for the diagnosis of the problem. Now they did wave the diagnosis fee of $75 after I complained, which was commendable on their part and I fully understand charging a diagnostic fee and have no problem paying that. But then they added a $75 Tune up fee. So basically I they just substituted one fee for another But to charge $245 for the installation of a $30 item that took no more than 10 minutes to install seems quite excessive. When speaking to a MagicTouch rep I was told that what they charge is in line with other HVAC companies. Somehow the fact that they all charge outrageous fees (collusion?) seem to justify the $275.00 in this person's mind. I believe in doing what is fair, paying a fair price for services rendered, but $245 for the installation of a $30 item does not meet those standards.

I requested our service manager and office manager let me know what happened on your job and received the following details:“A customer service representative called the night before to move the customers appointment time up (from the afternoon to an early morning) as a courtesy. Customer’s initial call was for AC system not working. We offered a free diagnosis with repair to the customer although he wasn’t even aware of the special offer. The technician completed the diagnosis, proposed the needed repairs and pricing upfront, customer gave his authorization and the technician began making repairs. The customer went outside and took the bad part off the ground while the technician was completing the job, and then went inside and did an Internet search on the cost of the part. He then went back to the technician and complained about the pricing. AFTER that the customer agreed to have maintenance performed on a SECOND air conditioner, which was the additional $75, cost…not the same unit. The second system although working, also needed the same part and again the customer agreed to have it replaced AFTER already complaining about the price on the other unit. The customer then called the office and changed the sequence of events, stating he found the cost of the part the following day. The customer stated that he ‘called all around town and that our price was comparable to our competitors but we were ALL (all the HVAC companies in the valley) overcharging and colluding to take advantage of everyone in the valley because the price was outrageous’. The customer was not given a discount after he complained, the discount he received was the initial free diagnosis with repair, which was offered at the time of scheduling the call. There were no surprise charges, the customer could have easily declined the recommendations but even proceeded to take the same recommendation on a working unit, so clearly wasn’t under any pressure to purchase the proposed recommendation”

The serviceman was a young man who was very neat and clean. I was very satisfied with him. They were very responsive. He saiid he would be here at 10:00 and he was here at 10:00.
Description of Work: It was a big deal purchase and they cleaned out my fireplace. They re-lit it for me because it's a gas fireplace and I turn it off in the summer and turn it on in the winter.
