We've used Air Factor for a few years now for service and maintenance work on A/C and heating units for our home and rental house. I have confidence in their work and professionalism. And don't do the usual oversell but only what is needed to get the job done.

I decided to replace my 31-yr old heat pump and I got several estimates last year. I had a big imbalance of temperature at opposite ends of the house. Of the four estimates I received, Tim from Air Factor was the only one that determined that the problem was that there was not enough airflow going over the the hot side of the house. Other companies just wanted to replace all the grills in my house or just put in a bigger unit. After getting the estimates, I did some research on the companies and talked to people who had used them. I decided a year ago to go with Air Factor but I was hoping to get one more year out of my old AC and save up the money for a new unit. So last year, I asked them to contact me in January of 2014, which they did. Tim came to my house to go over the plan. He had kept the file with drawings from the previous year and advised me on some new units that were available. He carefully went over all my options and pricing. Three days later, they arrived to install the new unit. Originally, they thought it would take about 4 hours to do, but they ran into some issues with existing hard ductwork and had to figure out how to work around that. Never once did Tim say that because of these problems, that the price would change. They kept me informed all the way. Ellis and Travis, the workmen on the job, were very polite and professional. Try as I might to provide food and drinks for them, they politely declined and said they preferred to just keep working. They only took one short break for a snack they had brought with them. They had arrived at 8:45 a.m. and didn't leave until the job was done close to 5 p.m. Tim was onsite a few times during the day to check on the progress, get more supplies, and help out when he could. All in all, these guys were terrific. The following week, Stacey from their office called to schedule a follow-up inspection. I was sick so we scheduled it for the following week. Tim came back to do an inspection, give me some paperwork for the unit and warranty, answer any questions and see if I was satisfied with the job. Another thing I'd like to mention is how nice they were to my golden retriever. He's a very needy dog and loves to be petted. They were all so tolerant of him and didn't mind getting pet hair on them. While this has nothing to do about their service, it speaks to the kind of people who are employed at Air Factor and it meant a lot to me. I would definitely recommend Air Factor to anyone that needs a new heating/cooling system. I think their prices were fair, their work is great, their workers were friendly and professional, and their follow up was amazing. I am one happy customer!
Description of Work: Replacement of heat pump, removal of old (31 yrs) heat pump from roof, removal of evaporative (swamp) cooler, added three new lines of ductwork, added an extra air return with grate in ceiling, added three new grills in ceiling, replaced two old style grills in walls.

The service I received from Air Factor was great. I set up an appointment for an estimate and Tim showed up on time and after doing all the measurements gave me 4 different options to choose from that would best suit my needs and budget. I choose a new unit and within three days I had that new unit. The installers Travis and Ellis showed up right on time and within 2 1/2 hours everything was up and running. They were very professional and answered all questions and explained the new equipment. All is running great and I am very satisfied with all the service I received from Air Factor. Tim came back out for post-install inspection and to make sure that everything was taken care of to my satisfaction. I would recommend Air Factor to anyone who is needing heating/ac service.

We contacted this provider because our A/C unit needed service and hadn't been blowing the coldest air. The technician who arrived was on time for his appointment and wasn't overly concerned that we were the last visit of his day. He did take his time to do an initial review/assessment. We agreed to his recommendations and he proceeded to replace the contacts and capacitors on our unit and clean the external coil. He did recommend that we clean the internal coils too at some point. The reason for the negative review was not the work performed but rather the financial fraud that happened immediately AFTER the technician took our payment information. The technician had told us when he left that he would be turning in his paperwork to the office in the morning since everything was closed for the day. On his paperwork was the full credit card number, expiration, and CVV code. Per our credit union, this single transaction was the likely source for fraud to occur. When we contacted the office about the situation the receptionist (or other person who answered the phone) said that our story sounded awful but... no apologies or even assurances that our information was handled with professionalism and industry-standard privacy policies. The police departments of three cities/states are now involved in this situation.

Dear Member, In reading this testimonial I don’t quite know how to respond. We did many things right for the member and acted in good faith as always. Our technician followed procedures by locking up the documents in his strong box overnight and turning them in first thing in the morning. We were notified of this situation by the member, and the Mesa PD did visit and ask a few questions, however there was never ANYTHING linking this transaction with Air Factor to any alleged fraud. The person you spoke with when calling was my wife and partner in the business and she was very apologetic and assured you that we Do Not store any credit card numbers. These are destroyed immediately once processed. As an added security measure we have since changed our process to a phone in payment so that we key the number immediately into our banking system. Again, we are sorry that you went through this situation, but as far as we are aware this was not caused by us mishandling your card information. Regards, William Geiger Owner

I interviewed 6 different HVAC contractors (most based on Angie's List reports) to replace both of our gas heating and AC units that were about 12 years old. They were the original, contractor grade units that came with the house when it was built. We are the second owners of the home. We decided to go with Air Factor, based on representative Tim Friederich's expertise. He spent about an hour in the attic on his first visit to determine how our system was designed and set up. One system was zoned, the other was not. All but two of the HVAC reps. said we didn't need a zone system and chose to ignore it. One offered to zone it, but with a very costly zone board. Tim (from Air Factor) came up with a solution that we felt good about. They were not the cheapest price (third highest of the 6 quotes obtained), but I do believe you get what you pay for. The two installation guys showed up on time, were very professional, paid close attention to detail, and completed installation of both units in 2 days, which was their goal. Tim later came back and inspected their work, and no issues were found. We purchased Trane units from Air Factor, with SEER ratings of 16 and 18, a big improvement from the 8 SEER of the replaced units. We are hoping for significantly lower utility bills next summer. Right now, the furnaces are operating and are MUCH quieter than the originals that came with the house. Although Air Factor is a smaller company, we like their professionalism, quick response, and Tim's expertise. I highly recommend them, based on our experience.

Dear Member, We are very happy to hear that you are pleased with the work we performed. It takes a lot of planning and attention to do what we do and have great results. I am not sure why anyone would tell you to Un-Zone a system unless they don’t understand how to work with it. We are very experienced and understand these systems and their benefit. We are a small company, but we are trusted by many people including Trane who calls on us to repair other contractor mistakes. We pride ourselves on doing it right the first time. If and when we do make a mistake, we are human, we own up to it immediately and resolve it just as fast. We know you will have many happy, quiet years ahead with lower energy bills. Thank you for choosing Air Factor Cooling & Heating. Thank you for sharing your experience with our company. Regards, William Geiger Owner

My wife called their office to report rust coming out of the drainpipe outside and request a call to make sure that the drains were not clogged to prevent further damage. The office person scheduled a call and said the clearing of the drain would be included on this service. The technician came out and checked the AC systems for about an hour and a half. He also changed the filters which we provided. At the conclusion of his check he informed us that the the lines were indeed clogged and that he could clear them for an additional $65 for each air handler. The initial check was $130.....$65 for each unit. We told him repeatedly that the only reason we called was to have these lines cleared he checked with his office person and his manager. They were totally unresponsive and the technician then informed my wife that " his office person would never say that the clearing of the pipes was included." Unbelievable thing to tell a customer. They take probably hundreds of calls and my wife made one to get the pipes cleared and SHE was the person that got it wrong??!!! The technician said we had scheduled "tune-up " calls and that you get the drain pipes cleared on a "service call" >>>so why would we schedule a call that didn't address the ONE issue that we had with the AC?? The technician was very condescending to my wife and keep telling her the difference in a SERVICE call VS. a TUNE UP.... Again...why would we want a call that did NOT address the ONLY problem we had....?? HE went on to tell us we needed new pans at $400 plus other "found " issues that he could fix and charge for.. We found another company....Schiller ...on Angies list to come check the system and unclog the lines.....they charged $25 to clear the pipes....80% less than Air Factor AC company !!!! They made a couple of recommendations for the pans and suggested it be checked in the spring.. Small - family owned ...honest company that we will use and highly recommend.

Amazing story, but if we are such a bad company then I don’t understand why we have so many happy customers and glowing reviews. First of all, The Member called our office and stated the following, “We had Tune Ups done at the beginning of summer by another company. She said we are not using AC or Heat right now, but noticed some rust on the side of the home and build-up on the ground”. She wanted us to check it out. Our Dispatcher quoted her our standard $69.95 service call fee and also offered her to upgrade to Tune Ups to get a full evaluation of their systems conditions. The cost for the Tune Up’s was $79.95 for the first system and $65.95 for the second. The Member agreed to have two Tune Ups performed. There was never any mention that clearing condensate drains was included in anything. She was only advised that the technician would determine what was needed and advise her. The person who took the call and scheduled The Member has been working here for years and would never say that the condensate drain flush was included. For the Record the technician was correct, our office never quotes repairs without our technician making an assessment first. The service call is the diagnosis and trip charge combined at $69.95, which we waive upon repairs being performed. Service Calls do not include condensation line flushes, nor do our Tune Up’s. These are at an additional fee as there are extra parts and materials needed. At Air Factor Cooling & Heating we do an honest job at an honest cost. I don’t know the company you used, but I wouldn’t even start my van for $25.00. Quite frankly I honestly couldn’t. My technicians make more than that, which means that I would immediately be operating at a loss. Apparently the other company who tuned up their systems at the beginning of the summer wasn’t very thorough or they would not be having these problems to begin with. Our technicians are honest and thorough. We are NOT the cheapest, We ARE competitive with other Quality Companies, and we consider ourselves the Best Choice. I hope this Member finds what they are looking for, just remember, quality comes at a cost and you get nothing for nothing. Regards, William Geiger Owner

My A/C blower stopped working over the weekend. Called these guys Monday morning and got an appointment window for late afternoon. Repair tech came out as promised and found the only problem was a broken wire between the thermostat and the A/C unit. He fixed it and everything was working normally again. Fortunately it was an easy, inexpensive fix.

Dear Member, Thank you for choosing Air Factor Cooling & Heating for your repair needs. I am glad our technician quickly diagnosed a minor issue with your system and was able to repair it at a minimal cost. Please note, we do have emergency service on the weekends should the need arise. Sometimes when we are at extreme temperatures you are better off calling the emergency service line even if to just get scheduled for Monday. People tend to wait until Monday and then we get a large call volume on Monday which may delay our arrival. If you are one of our Maintenance Agreement holders there is no extra charge for after hour’s emergency service. Sincerely, William Geiger Owner

This provider, which I have used over the past 6 years is the best. From the initial phone call to the office personnel who are extremely polite and efficient, to the tachnical staff that is the gold standard in this type of work. Extremely knowlwdgeable, provides options and alternatives to their recommendations. The major work done recently was without a glitch, all my questions were answered, and they performed the work on time. Would highly recommend Air Factor .

The initial consultation went well with a very organized and put together binder . They got the air conditioner put in 2 days after I signed all paperwork. After the a/c unit was installed I was to call them for a check in within the year but instead they called me numerous time wanting me to schedule but I didn't feel it was necessary yet. That was the only thing that bothered me, the emails and phone calls that were made to me twice a week, when I was able to call them myself.

Dear Member, It was a pleasure working with you to select the appropriate system for your home. With each and every install we provide the first years maintenance. This consists of two visits at six month intervals. We call you to schedule these visits so that you don’t have to remember. Even though the system is new, you still need to perform these maintenance checks or the manufacture can void any warranties you may have. We certainly don’t want to bother you with these calls and emails; we just want to make sure you are taken care of and not overlooked. If you have any further questions on this please call our office. Best Regards, William Geiger Owner

Upon arriving home from an extended vacation, we discovered late in the afternoon that one of our a/c units was only blowing out hot air. It was over 108 outside, and one a/c unit didn't really do the job. It was the 4th of July holiday weekend, so I wasn't sure I could get anyone.... I called several, including those on Angie's list; however, Air Factor is the ONLY one to respond. Though they are closed on the weekend, I called the emergency number, explained our situation, and was told they would have someone out between 5-7. The doorbell rang at exactly 5:00!!! YES!!! Chris fixed the problem....honored the $35 coupon...deducting from the total estimated amount. I definitely would recommend them.....I have no idea how much this should cost, so I put down a B....typically I have a policy in place but had let it lapse, and was not sure (even though I did renew) if they would cover so quickly after renewal. It was worth the comfort we are experiencing now.

Dear Member, I am so glad that we were able to get you cooling. It’s nice to know that Air Factor was there to help and now has another happy customer. It’s funny that you mention that; “It was the 4th of July holiday weekend, so I wasn't sure I could get anyone.... I called several, including those on Angie's list; however, Air Factor is the ONLY one to respond”. We hear this same comment on a regular basis after normal hours for some reason. I guess we are the only company that really does have emergency service. We also pride ourselves on being on time for our appointments as well. We give two hour arrival windows but strive to be at the beginning of each window. I guess since we were the only ones to answer the phone you had no choice but to use us, but we are glad that you did. It is apparent that you are as well. This company is not an authorized Goodman dealer, so his firm could not do the repairs, but their technician could have just t said nothing or try to sell us a new unit but he was not only honest, but helpful and we wound up saving the cost of a $1200 repair. We later contacted another dealer who handles Goodman A/C products who begrudgingly did the warranty work. The diagnosis of a leaking coil was correct and the coil was replaced. Our other unit is not a Goodman and when it comes time to need repairs or replacement on that unit I will definitely call Air Factor Cooling and Heating in Mesa. We want to deal with honest and reliable people when making sizable repairs and purchases and Air Factor Cooling and Heating is a good, honest company. The wok they did do was very good and reasonably priced.. I would rate them an A+.
Description of Work: He cleaned, diagnosed the problem and thoroughly checked our two A/C roof units. We had just bought the home so we were unaware that the one unit that was working poorly was under an extended free parts and labor warranty. The technician sat at our computer and looked up all the warranty information for us. We were thrilled to find out that we had a full parts and labor warranty in force for the next 8 years! The technician advised me we had a leaking coil, a potentially expensive repair.

Was to replace condenser motor fan. Service technician could not remove old fan blades.. Told me even if he could, the new blades wouldn't go on the new motor anyway. I figured this wasn't accurate, and sure enough the next company did fix the motor and kept my old blades by simply using a bushing.... Also, they removed the blades in seconds....So basically, if you cant take off a blade from a fan, you either shouldn't be responding to calls, or you are being dishonest. Don't up sell me parts I don't need.

Dear Member, First of all, sorry for any confusion we may have created. Your particular situation is a unique one. Your Tempstar equipment uses a heavier fan motor with an oversized 5/8” shaft. This is not the normal run of the mill fan motor. The tech advised you that we would need to pick up an Original Equipment Motor as this particular type is not carried on our service vans. There are a very limited number of systems which use this type of fan motor, so it is cost prohibitive to stock these motors on our trucks. Once we installed the OEM Motor for you we would then have been able to use your fan blade. As you declined this work we collected the service fee. Please note: The Company who performed your repair, used sub-standard repair practices in using a Non-Original Equipment fan motor. They then rigged it by installing a bushing to make the fan blade fit the shaft of the motor with an undersized shaft. Your system calls for the heavier motor and shaft, not the undersized one they installed. We don’t choose to perform this type of substandard repairs. We wish you well. Best Regards, Air Factor Cooling & Heating

Fantastic service. I couldn't be more pleased. Our upstairs unit quit cooling on an extremely hot day. I called a couple of places, but no one had any openings on a Friday night. I called Air Factor at 6:30pm. They had a technician close by who could come between 7-9pm. He was at our house at 6:58. Very pleasant. Only took about 15 minutes to diagnose the problem. I was so glad he had the right part in his truck. He saved us from a very warm night. I will definitely use them again.

Showed up on time with a phone call about 30 minutes prior. Professional and informative. He spent about 2 hours doing a very thorough checkout of my 2 A/C systems. He was very careful to wear shoe covering, put plastic down under his ladder, etc., to keep it clean. The only issue was with adding coolant. He had the system running during his checkout, then when completed the compressor was too hot to add coolant. He had to leave for several hours (while I ran water on the compressor to cool it). He did return in the evening to complete the job, but there was an additional return visit charge for this. I think this could have been better communicated & planned for during his visit so that a return trip was not needed. The work did get completed and the A/C seems to be working better.
Description of Work: They did a thorough system checkout of both A/C / heating systems, and then added coolant to both systems.

Dear Member, Thank you for the great feedback and for sharing the thoroughness of our inspections. It was unexpected that your compressor would overheat during this inspection as this is not typical. As the cost for repairs that day were prohibitive for you, you elected for the lower cost return visit by the technician after the compressor cooled off. We are sorry if this was cause miss-communication for you on our part. Best Regards, Air Factor Cooling & Heating

We have used Air Factor for the past few years for maintenance on our A/C system and have been extremely happy. After our system check-up in March we decided to purchase a new A/C unit from Air Factor because our system was old and inefficient. The staff at Air Factor walked us through all of our options and recommended the best system for our needs. They also recommended a built-in air purifier since we have two dogs and live in a dusty area. Since the purifier was installed we have noticed a difference with our air quality. We wake up less congested in the morning as well. Their staff was very respectful and clean while installing the system and we have had absolutely no problems since installation. The installation took much less time than I had anticipated, which made me very happy. I appreciated the professional follow up to make sure everything was working properly. We would highly recommend Air Factor to anyone who needs air conditioning maintenance or is considering purchasing a new system!

Kevin was exactly on time - quick, professional, thorough and very pleasant. Suggested some items to prolong the life of our AC unit - but didn't over sell anything that was unnecessary.

It could not have gone better. Scott arrived punctually on time, and he was great. He explained with great details in what condition the AC units were on, and gave us some recommendations. We decided to put some extra coolant on one of the units based on his comments. It was a great experience, we recommend this company based on what we saw, and we will definitely use them in the future.

A/C went out and I guess thats to be expected after 25 years old. Knew it was going to happen eventually had a technician out same day after call and they got the old unit up and working and then came out and installed a new unit the next week. The work that was done to the old unit was discounted to the new unit. When selecting the new unit, they came out took measurements looked at our needs and issues with old system and gave us 4 options to choose from and throughly explained everything. install started at 9 AM and work was complete by 12:30. Very friendly and very professional service. Will definitely be signing up for their yearly service to help this one last 25 years as well!

The technician arrived promptly and spent two hours working on my AC, after which he charged me 471.86 cents for services rendered without fixing my AC! He attempted to fix it but was unable to do so due to extensive problems with the system. He said the coolant was leaking out as fast as he put it in. Then don't you stop before it hits 471.86? Then he gave me an estimate of 3,253.87 to actually fix the problem. I'm down 471.86. My AC is in the exact same condition. I'm in tears, and my hands are shaking as I write this. I have never felt this worked over.

Dear Member, Let me start off with the fact that we are just as upset with the situation as you probably are. We would like to help rectify this situation to your satisfaction. This can only start with two way communications. If you will not answer your phone and speak to us, I don’t see how we will ever accomplish reaching an acceptable resolution. We have left you multiple phone messages last night and this morning. It is now 3:05pm and I have left one final message on your machine. As of this writing, my staff has NOT processed your credit card at my request. We would like the opportunity to apply this cost to your repair or replacement. However, I am awaiting your call for further instructions on how to proceed. If we do not here from you we will be forced to proceed in processing your payment. For all of you reading this, let me explain “the whole” story. We were called out to the home for what the homeowner thought was a faulty thermostat. Upon inspection, the thermostat was working fine. The technician proceeded to inspect the remainder of the system. During his diagnosis it was found that the system was low on refrigerant. The technician advised the customer that he recommended a leak search on the system to determine why the refrigerant level was low. The customer declined the leak search recommendation, and asked him to “just charge it up”. The technician began adding refrigerant to the system at the customer’s request and stopped short of a full charge after determining that the refrigerant was leaking out too quickly. He advised the customer of the situation and she again refused a leak search and only wanted the system charged up. Although the customer declined the leak search, the technician decided to do a leak test anyway “for free” before he closed up her attic. The leak detector indicated a leak in the indoor evaporator coil. He advised the customer that the indoor coil was leaking and needed to be replaced. He then provided her with a quote for the Coil replacement. Again he was told “no”. He was left with no other choice but to charge her for the work that she had authorized. The customer also signed two forms stating that she was declining repairs and only wanted the system charged. We would like to resolve this with the customer; however we have not received any response to our calls and voice mails. As a person who believes in taking care of the customer, this is very frustrating to me. Regards, William Geiger

The true measure of a person - or a company - is not whether or not they mess up. All of us mess up at one time or another. The true measure of a company is how they react when they mess up. There was a small hiccup when Air Factor performed routine maintenance on my home AC unit this past week. I emailed them immediately after it happened, and I was very impressed with their response. Air Factor responded swiftly and decisively, and fixed the problem immediately. I bought the unit from them a few years ago. They were not the cheapest, but I chose them because I thought I could trust them, and because of their reputation on Angie's list. I use them for tune-ups for the same reason. I will continue to use them for all my AC needs. Thank you guys for turning a potentially negative situation into a very positive one. I appreciate your effort and commitment to customer service.

[member name removed], Thank you so much for the kind words. It was a pleasure to assist you with your installation and it continues to be a pleasure serving you with your ongoing maintenance. As a company, Air Factor Cooling & Heating believes in treating our customers as we wish to be treated ourselves. Yes, you are correct, we do make mistakes from time to time but always strive to make things right. You are also correct in that we are not always the cheapest when it comes to service or installation. Quality workmanship and a job done correctly, does come with a cost. There are companies that beat us on price; however as contractors we all have the same costs. With that in mind, the company with the cheap price usually gets to the cheap price by cutting corners to stay profitable. This ultimately affects the quality of the work and how well the system performs. A poorly installed or repaired system will not operate efficiently and will lead to increased utility expenses and future breakdowns, all of which are at the customer’s expense. Air Factor doesn't cut corners, and we have many happy customers who know this first hand. Thank you again for your continued trust and patronage, we look forward to a long relationship with you and your family. Sincerely, William Geiger
