About us

Texture Ceiling removal Only! For over 30 years, residential homebuilders applied the “cottage cheese” like acoustic ceiling texture commonly referred to as popcorn. Many builders actually touted it as an upgrade and a way to reduce echoes. What it really did was cover up poor workmanship, i.e. poor drywall installation and the taping of seams on the ceiling. As these homes age, the “popcorn” ceilings take on a dull yellowish brown appearance. The reason for that appearance is “popcorn” is a porous surface that absorbs airborne pollutants that can only be eradicated by removal. Painting is not the solution; as it can only cover up the dulled appearance of the popcorn itself and does little to change the overall aesthetics of the room. Most people who call us that have opted to paint their popcorn ceilings are disappointed to learn that in most cases it will now cost them more money to have it removed due to the increased labor involved to remove it properly. Whether you are buying or selling a home removing the popcorn ceiling instantly updates and adds value to your home.

Description of Work: Popcorn ceiling removal, ceiling texture, prep paint with Kills paint and paint ceiling in Master Bedroom. Light repair bedroom walls, texture where needed and paint. My initial conversation was very good and the price was reasonable. The owner said he would be out to start the job but then went out of town and sent his nephew and another employee to do the popcorn removal and subsequent ceiling texture. Then they repaired a few small holes and indents and even screwed in the wall board that was not tight and sprayed texture on the walls were needed. Up until this point I thought everything went pretty well and they hauled away most of the ceiling gunk and left the plastic sheeting up for the painter. They sent a second gentleman to do the painting - alone - and the other two gentlemen never returned. They left the rest of the clean up of the mess to the painter. As I was looking at one of the walls they had worked on I realized the texture was not uniform and stopped in a line where they had set up plastic sheeting (to keep it from going too far up the wall I guess). I had a can of spray on orange peel type texturizer and did some touch up and the wall looked good after that. The painter did a good job, but had to work all alone so it was very time consuming and he couldn't finish and had to return the next day. The paint they recommended I buy turned out to be very thin and it took two coats (had to buy more paint) and one small area took a third coat where there had been a medium color paint sample. The poor painter worked hard, did his best to clean up everything, but things were still a dusty mess afterwards. Only later when we were moving the furniture back in I noticed that one long wall had an actual demarcation line where the texturing stopped and the old texture met. The texture was more like fine speckles than orange peel and looks bad. I will have to lightly sand and blend in the texture before I paint the room again. The owner called once when his nephew started the job to see how it was going, but never called to see if it had been completed to my satisfaction. By the time the whole job was over, I was too tired to get into a hassle with him so I never called. My fault. Lesson learned - don't use this contractor again unless I am there to babysit the whole time and make sure there are two people on the job of this size.

Description of Work: Removed popcorn ceiling and retextured. Work was completed within timeframe expected. There was some damage which was pointed out and repaired the next weekend. The cost was on the high end, but within the timeframe which was more of a priority for me.
