We are first time winter residents, who had just purchased a home with no landscaping. Being from the midwest, we had a vision of what we thought we would like. When Craig came to meet with us, he immediately understood our vision, and had many ideas on how to further enhance our ideas. He created a "river" with several small berms, plantings, and boulder placements. We had another driveway installed, and tied it to the existing driveway with a sidewalk and patio. He also installed lighting and irrigation system. The front yard went from blah to a beautiful yard we are proud of. Matter of fact, the whole neighborhood enjoys it. We had only seen pictures he sent us of the front yard, and were so impressed that we had him design the back yard. He sent us drawings by email. We hired him to do the back, and requested he incorporate some old clay "Sombrero" tiles that were in the yard into an enlarged patio. We also had him add a fieldstone bar to the top of the existing block wall on the back small patio, along with another small "river", 2 citrus trees, and many other plantings. Craig is a very engaging young man who truly has a passion for landscaping. We called him when we got to town this fall and he came out and went over everything he had done with us. He thanked us many times for providing employment for his workers.

I contacted Craig to setup an appointment to discuss installation of pavers I had previously purchased. He came out on time and we had a great conversation about our totally blank backyard. He gave some great recommendations for how to do things and wrote up a very detailed estimate. I requested that he quote paver installation separate from additional work, for which he happily complied. I had him come back a week later to finalize a quote. We decided to do the whole yard because I was very impressed with Craig's vision matching my own for the yard and his overall price was very good. I've spoken with four other landscapers and none were as willing to work with me. Craig and crew came out for three days, installed just under 400 sq ft of pavers, 20 plants, 4 trees, and 900 sq ft of lawn. It all looks great. Craig took me to the nursery and helped pick out the plants we liked. He worked with my design elements to make it fit in the yard. His attention to detail shows. I couldn't be happier.

They arrived on a Thursday evening to remove patio ceiling and nails, etc. Covered windows to protect them and painted ceiling area to match house. Removed all debris from patio area. Returned Friday morning and proceeded to do a 4 step process to clean, and prepare patio for staining. Meanwhile, the old landscaping was being removed and new sand, flagstones, and desert stone were being laid around concrete circle in backyard. Also removed old ground between pool and patio to improve drainage and appearance. When stones were done, concrete circle was cleaned and prepped for stain finish. Everyone worked steadily and completed the job in about 8 hours on Friday. Everything was left looking great! Craig answered all our questions and we are very satisfied with the results

Craig was great and personable. We walked through the yards and I gave him my wants and vision. He really listened and gave some great suggestions for plants and layout. He gave an efficient estimate on the spot. His crew was clean and punctual. They cleaned up each evening before they left. At the end of the project, Craig came back in the evening to make sure all the lighting was all pointed properly and made it look great. They stayed in budget and they were on time. Craig and his crew are excellent!

Craig was very easy to work with and we were vary pleased with the final product. Our church landscape in the front went from nothing to something beautiful in just 3 days. Craig has a good crew of very experienced men who know what they are doing as well as being able to clean up after them selves. Paper work is not one of Craig's strong points, but he more than makes up for that in his desire to please the customer. He makes no excuses for problems as they occur - he just makes sure they are fixed to the customers satisfaction. The finished area included a patio with stone on the walking area and a sitting bench surrounding it. Large rocks were brought in and well placed around the area as well as numerous plants scattered around. Craig went to the Nursery with one of the church members and helped select the plants that would best fit the area. His company did all the planting as well as hauling and placing the large rocks to our satisfaction. We would all highly recommend AZ NativeScapes for any landscaping job.

He did it in a very timely manner. His prices were reasonable. He went to the nursery with me. Against his advice, I picked up one gallon plants and of course they didn't make it through the hot Arizona summer, but everything else is doing nicely. The only thing he did not do was follow up with me. Because I have been in customer service for 50 years I guess by now, I think that word of mouth is certainly some of the best kind of advertising that you can get. The right thing to do is, especially when it's something that is living like a yard, follow up at 3 months, maybe follow up again at 6 or 9 months, at least follow up once, but he did not do that. The yard does look nice. He was a good adviser. For that kind of money you should at least follow up once. He was supportive throughout the whole process and very fast. He had a crew and they had all the proper equipment. They came and got it done and they were out of here in a flash. He has been doing it for a long time so he knows what it takes to get a job done and knows how to estimate the time and crew members and that sort of thing. I would use him again definitely. I wouldn't have done all that work for that much money. That was a lot of granite to spread. You just don't have to mow it which is a good thing. I even referred him to someone for a $6000.00 job. He is a little rough around the edges. I found him in our home owners' association newsletter. He does advertise here in the community. It's a Del Webb community for active adults and there are 1250 homes in here. I think he has probably done quite a bit of work in here, but I can't say that for sure.

The job went smoothly, and was finished ahead of schedule. They showed up on the day and time promised and went right to work. Planning was done in such detail that the crew was able to go to workout supervision, unless that was a question about an unexpected development. We were frequently asked if we were happy with the results so far. And we were every time.

The price was very fair. I am very satisfied and I think they did an amazing job.

Found Craig Rawlings on Angies List and called , Craig called backi right away and we made appointment for him to come look and decide what should be done . Nothing in backyard but dirt and pool . We talked about what I wanted and he made suggestions . We agreed and he asked if I wanted to get other est I told him I felt comfortable with him doing the job and he said he could start the next Mon. They were on time and worked hard all day getting the job done quickly and cleaned up every day when done . Craig took me to look at plants and lights , we picked them out and when we got home the veg garden was ready to plant .. They were all very friendly , funny and worked hare to make sure that it was what I wanted .. It went great and I will have them back again ...

AZ NativeScapes came out the next evening I called and gave me a free quote on redoing my backyard. Craig was on time, knowledgeable and gave me a price right on the spot! I had talked to 3 other landscapers and they were no where as professional or prepared as him, so the choice was easy. The other contractors were late, sent someone else than I had talked to or barely spoke English. Craig gave me viable options and honest recommendations on how to do my yard. It really turned out better than the vision I already had in my head! They were able to start my yard the following week with half of the money down, half when finished. Craig and the crew were on time, clean and fast. What a bunch of hard workers! I liked that the owner, Craig, was very involved and onsite most of the project. He really kept things efficient and made sure everything was done right. The plants and lights he helped me choose look perfect together. He was patient and knowledgeable in all the questions I asked. He programmed my water timer and showed me how to use it, too. The overall experience with AZ NativeScapes was perfect - will rehire for my front yard!

Very well. No complaints. Hard working crew with all the right tools and equipment to get the job done in a timely manner.

Craig arrived for the appointment and we went over everything. He had a habit of talking over me and also giving me the impression he wasn't listening to what I was saying at times since I had to repeat that what he was suggesting was something I couldn't do. He also surprised me with the things he said such as calling the tree in my yard a "turd" and telling me my kitchen was high end but my appliances and table were not. Who says these kinds of things to people, especially to a potential customer? Even though he had these types of personality traits, I ignored them and continued to hear him out. He said for me to give him to the next day and he would email me a bid. Well, I waited for 9 days past the day he said he'd have my bid and sent him an email asking why I hadn't received it yet. I got an email back stating the strangest thing. He said he felt we didn't have a "good connection" and implied he wasn't going to give me a bid. WEIRD, WEIRD, WEIRD! I sent him back an email saying I didn't have a clue what he was talking about and to please explain. Just like I figured, he never replied. My interpretation of his message was that he didn't like me one bit and didn't want anything to do with me. My friends who read it said the same thing. Since when do contractors interview their customers to be their best friend! Odd that I would get a message like that from a guy who behaved as he did! This is the strangest experience I've ever had with a contractor. ****************************RESPONSE TO CONTRACTOR'S REPLY****************************************** 1. Yes, I do have a lot of reports rated an F. I'll call, lets say, 10 contractors on a particular project. 8 will either not return calls or not show up or not get back to me with the price. Just like in school, if you don't turn in your work, you get an F. The 9th contractor will give me a bid, but I don't use him and there isn't anything too write about, so he won't be listed. Then I use the 10th contractor and rate him and usually they are an A. So after having a number of projects requiring different types of contractors, I will have a lot more Fs than other ratings because so many AZ contractors stand me up in one way or another. 2. Told him I didn't have a budget yet because i didn't know the prices as he was the first landscaper I had seen and I was going to have to wait for the bid to see what I could afford. 3. He NEVER said he would put together a bid AFTER I contacted him with a decision on what I wanted to do. I gave him a few general ideas on what I was wanting and then he told me his ideas on what I should do and said he would put together a bid by the next night based on his ideas and email it. 4. What storm?? We had a bad storm in OCTOBER and our meeting was mid SEPTEMBER not to mention it's a single trunk fan palm tree with nothing broken off. 5. Saying my kitchen was high end was not the problem. It was when he said my appliances and table were NOT high end that was insulting. I NEVER said I didn't like my appliances and that I wanted to replace them. They are NEW! Then he says he didn't comment on the appliances. 6. He said I said my husband and son spent all day trying to get the gate to shut properly. That is not correct. I told him my husband and son couldn't get the nut to turn. I didn't say anything about it being that day or shutting properly. This comment of his is no big deal but shows how he doesn't tell things like they were. It was very nice of him to offer to adjust the gate. It only took a few minutes and I thanked him for it. 7. He ends by saying I was going to be difficult to work with, yet at the beginning he said I was a very nice customer. More contradictions! 8. Why did it take him almost 2 weeks to determine I was not a good "connection" with him? If he felt that way, he would have decided that by the end of our appointment and not talked about putting together a bid by the next night and taking down my email address so he could send me the bid. He had plenty of time to tell me that when he was at my house and didn't say a word. IF THE CONTRACTOR IS GOING TO REPLY, AND THEY SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO, THEY SHOULD AT LEAST TELL THE TRUTH!!!

The complete project went extremely well with all the work being done in a timely manner and on schedule. The workers were very professional, always on time, and very courteous. Craig was always on site supervising and making sure everything was done correctly. His suggestions regards the project were outstanding. He also has made followup visits to ensure all was going well.

We loved Craig! My husband and I just bought this house and moved in. The yard was totally neglected and old. We got 3 quotes before a friend told me to give them a call. He came out the same day and gave us a quote on the spot. He even made a drawing of what our yard would be. His price was in the middle but we added some extra things, like the wall around our pool pump. He was very knowledgeable in landscaping and desert plants so we chose him without a doubt. Craig helped us find the best deals on plants and trees, gave us good suggestions on which plants were drought resistant and low maintenance, explained how our timer system worked, and he was patient when we made last minute changes. His crew was on time and they cleaned up all debris and didn't leave anything behind. Craig always answered his phone each time we called. There was a lot of work to be done in our yard and they did it in 3 days when other landscapers estimated 6-14 days! Our backyard is perfect and better than we ever imagined. We loved AZ NativeScapes so much that they're redoing our front yard too and also our neighbors!
