There were two challenges - first, I needed it done on a specific day to keep to the work schedule (Saturday) and I did not have the original paint color (previously done by another painter). AZ Paint came out to provide an estimate approximately one week ahead of the date I needed the work done. The gentleman that came to the house (I cannot recall his name, unfortunately) quickly provided an estimate, assisted in figuring out the original color and offered to do the work himself on the following Saturday to keep our schedule. The work was done perfectly and I will happily call AZ Paint Company in the future and recommend them highly.
Description of Work: As part of a kitchen remodel, I needed to have newly dry walled walls and ceiling repainted.

I have had a number of problems with them. They did correct those issues to my satisfaction. The first crew they had did a terrible job and they essentially had to do a re-paint the house. It was re-done well.

We have used them several times. This last time wasn't so great. They didn't do as good of a job. The quality was a little sloppy. I had them come back several times to fix things. The painters argued with me several times. The previous times were much better – pretty much the best painting job I've ever seen. It was a different worker this time.

Hi [member name removed] We're sorry to hear about your issues with the painters at this last visit. Its never acceptable for painters to argue with the customers and for that I apologize. We would love an opportunity to come and fix any areas that you are still concerned about. Please call us at 480-926-7700 and we will come fix these areas for free.

It turned out great! The estimate was prepared back in March or April and the work was done on August 18-19. They stuck to the schedule and worked around a rain storm. They communicated and listened well. They got hard to reach spots and didn't miss anything on the quote. Their quote was one of the lowest I received. They were very, very competitive.

There were pros and cons about the job. They had to come back a few times to fix things. When they removed the popcorn ceiling, they left the house a total mess. They left ladders and rags out. They cleaned up the next day. I guess they didn't think I was living there though. With the painting, there was just a lack of attention to detail. There were thin spots and areas where they didn't patch.

They did a very good job while they were here. The person I interacted with was very nice. They did the work, but then they asked if I wanted more rooms painted. I didn't really need more rooms painted at the time so I declined. I inquired with them again later to paint one master bedroom and bathroom. They gave me quote. This is when I found out that they don't like to do smaller jobs. They prefer $1,000+ jobs. I didn't have them do the work. They called back with a lower quote, but I still didn't have them do the work.

Broken promises and higher costs. Before you hire AZ Painting, you may want to read what has wound up costing us not only their considerable fee but additional money to fix the damage they did to our home. We hired AZ Painting to paint our home in November 2013. My husband told their rep Doug Caris that he was concerned about a leak we were having near our bathroom window. He asked for pricing but said he was reluctant to repaint the house right then with that issue unresolved. Caris insisted that AZ Painting would repair the window and test it so there was no reason to delay the decision to hire them. Based on their representation and guarantee, we reluctantly proceeded to let them paint the house. AZ Painting did the work while we were out of town which we thought would be less disruptive and, after all, Caris was pushing us. We returned to find a very disappointing paint job that required AZ Painting to return to our property with several different crews at our insistence. Frankly I thought they were better than that but their work was inferior ? a big disappointment. But that?s not the worst of it. What we wish someone had warned us about was that AZ Painting did NOT make good on their sales promise to fix the leak that made me cautious about committing to a paint job before repairs proved to be successful. I regret trusting them. And while AZ Painting returned a number of times and water tested their ?repair job? every time it actually rained, the leak was worse than ever even though their ?test? suspiciously showed no leak. They reluctantly returned to the job because we withheld a small part of their fee until they lived up to their word. Finally on Monday September 8th when that big 3-4 inch rain storm hit the Valley, we found the entire large window leaking into the bathroom and down to the dining room below. We had damaged furniture, water stained carpets and must now hire contractors to come in and fix the leak that has now become a flood. What?s worse, AZ Painting is suing us for the small part of their fee which I withheld until they made good on their promises. So a paint job that turned out to be very average in quality has cost us their large fee, the cost of replacing and/or repairing water damaged furniture and hiring of contractors to remediate the damage that was expanded by their monkeying around, the cost of mold remediation AND now legal fees. You?ve been warned. It?s the warning we wished we had received. AZ Painting is too slick for their own good and not very big on quality. Hiring AZ Painting turned out to be a very costly mistake. AZ Painting: Below average painter ? above average liar. We spent almost the entire summer at our home in the east and Caris knew this so he?s pulling this stuff out of his ? well, you know where. He never called me. Just a dunning email for the small amount of his large fee that I withheld until he made good on his promises. Home inspector ? We said ?yes? for the one week this summer when we returned to AZ, but incredibly AZ Painting?s answer was we can?t do it until next week when they knew I wouldn?t be in the state. Here?s the exact quote from Caris? email when I told him I am only back in town for one week: "Sorry, But i'll be in Queen Creek at that time today. If you have any times available for either her or you to be there at all next week let me know because I need to coordinate it with a home inspector also to meet there?. You see, he lied. Roofing company ? Never offered. I am glad to see AZ Painting admit that I pre-disclosed my objection which was I did not want to paint a house that still needed a significant repair. Knowing this, they said they couldn?t hold the price and would take responsibility to see that the leak was fixed to our satisfaction if I would let them proceed. Better Business Bureau ? Never even mentioned until AZ Painting responded to this email. If you?re considering hiring AZ Painting, go ahead if you are comfortable. But I wish I never let them con us. We?ve been burned badly by AZ Painting (look at the tone of their responses and the arrogance with which they have responded to other complaints on this site). Now I?ve got to sue this company for damages AND fix the damage they did all for a sub-par paint job. Fast talking salesman prove to be slow responders in customer service and AZ Painting is no exception. Take the time and scroll down to the other ?F? ratings AZ Painting received here on Angie?s List and it will confirm their pattern: take the money and run then trash the customer while accepting absolutely no responsibility. Buyer beware.

Response from Arizona Painting Company
We were contracted to paint the customers house, caulk around the windows and do our normal paint job. During the quote he expressed concerns over his window leaking. We told him we would caulk around his leaking window to try help his issue but we never guaranteed it would stop his leak as a leak is never the result of a bad paint job. The water is coming through either his roof or the window itself, this is not a result of faulty workmanship at all. The customer is withholding over $2,600 and refusing to pay even though we've done our job and fulfilled our contract. We even went above and beyond, returned back and caulked more, then tested the wall by spraying a hose on the wall for several hours and there was no leak. This tells us its from the roof or faulty flashing when the window was installed. Again not a result of anything we did or didn't do. We offered to have a home inspector come to help him find the real source of the leak but he refused. We offered to have the Better Business Bureau come and look at our workmanship, but the customer refused. We offered to have a roofing company come and re-check the roof but he said "His" roofer told him it was fine and he refused. We fulfilled our contract and he is blaming his leaky roof or window on a paint job and they are unrelated.

I contacted this company and requested to meet with one of the company's representatives. I was told that cost of the deal would be higher because it would take more than a day to complete an exterior painting of my 1,795 sq. ft. home. I expected that the cost would be only slightly higher and was told that this would be so. Needless to say when the estimate came in with a bottom line of $2,780.58 I realized that I could not afford this much money. I am trying to prepare this home for sale and still need to pay for an interior painting. Thank you for handling my request for a refund to my bankcard. Please know that this is the first time I have requested a refund after many services completed by Angie's List vendors over the last 3 years. The advertisement of this service was definitely not clear as to the possibility of there being a far greater cost for services other than labor plus paint.

Response from Arizona Painting Company
Our Angies List Deal that this customer purchased was "2 painters for 8 hours of work". When we called to schedule the job the customer assumed that 2 painters could paint her entire exterior for this 8 hours of work. We explained that there was no possible way we can do this and that we could give her a quote for the entire exterior and then take off the Angies List deal she had purchased. She agreeed to get a quote, which we scheduled a few days later. When we arrived at the home there was alot of work to be done, lots of prep work and it was 3 full days of work for 2 painters. So we priced it like any other job, gave our Angies List discount, and then explained that she would get credit off this quote for the 1 day she had already paid for. This was more than the customer wanted to spend so we contacted Angies List and arranged for her to receive a refund of her Angies List Big Deal purchase. We're sorry for the confusion on this Angies List Deal purchase and we're glad we could get you reimbursed.

I met with Doug from Arizona Painting Company to obtain an estimate for a house that we are fixing up for sale. He arrived on time as scheduled. I appreciate his input in what needed to be done. I liked that he was able to provide a thorough estimate on the project immediately after our consult. Their estimate was a bit higher than what we have budgeted for the project & because we have a few major expenses for repair of the house, we had to chose another company. The company is very professional-from scheduling with Brittany to interacting with Doug- it was an overall pleasant experience. Thanks Arizona Painting Company.

I was able to quickly schedule a bid to have the exterior painted. Once I approved the bid I was able to have the house painted within 2 weeks. Rob and Nick did a great job and provided quality work. They introduced themselves and gave me information what they would be doing for the 2 days that they were painting the house. They listened to any my concerns and made sure to meet my expectations. I have never had a house painted before but Arizona Painting Company did a great job! Once the painting was completed Rob and Nick walked me around the house to show me their work. They did a great job with the clean up. Everything was done within 2 days. I also enjoyed working with the office staff. They were friendly and helped me through the process. Thanks Arizona Painting Company!

I called Arizona Painting around 1:00 pm Friday and our bedroom was repainted 24 hours later. Keith was punctual, pleasant to talk to, and did a very professional job. When he was done, there was no sign that he had been there except a beautifully painted bedroom. He did the little things that made a difference, like pointing out an extra curtain rod holder that we were not going to use. removed it, and patched it so that you can't tell anything was ever there. He had to make a trip to the paint store when he determined two coats were not enough. (I'm not sure I would have noticed a problem if he hadn't pointed it out.) He had said up front that the quote included however much paint was required, and he was true to his word. I could not have asked for a better job and I heartily recommend Arizona Painting.

The initial response was fast! Keith was out within a week to take a look and gave me an estimate on the spot. I agreed and we proceeded. I had to actually push the scheduled paint back a few weeks because Home Depot dropped the ball on installation of my new interior door. Once I actually got them out to the house, they painted the interior in two days (minus the baseboards which were not all installed, so they came back out at a later date to paint them). Immediately, I could tell the work was not stellar. I called Keith and received a return call from Joe who agreed to come out and look at the place. For starters, I have an extremely small laundry room, and in order to paint behind the washer and dryer, you have to move them a few feet forward. Well, that takes up my whole laundry room. It was obvious that some idiot had stood on top of my brand new front load dryer to paint the ceiling or tape off the fluorescent light because there was a massive dent in the top! Joe stated that his crew would not stand on top of a dryer to paint the ceiling, but what else could have possibly been placed on the dryer top that was heavy enough to dent it in? Next, there was hard scratchy spots all over my sills and walls. Joe ran his hand across my window sills and agreed they were not smooth; they were definitely scratchy and bumpy. My contract specifically noted that all walls will be brushed/wiped off, which I'm assuming was not done and they just sprayed right over dusty sills. There was overspray on my brand new $9,000 hardwood floor. I had the flooring company come back out and replace the pieces because I had extra. There was over spray on EVERY single decora outlet cover, and on all of my brand new satin nickel door hinges and door hardware. In a couple area, they shut doors that were still wet and then the contact with the door jam caused bubbling. Not one door was removed and sprayed like a professional company would do. At least half of my doors still had the tape half covering hinges and door plates. It's annoying when the homeowner has to go around cleaning up after the crew. I had to take a razor blade to peel paint off all the brushed nickel hinges. The worst part, my paint is peeling in various spots! Attached is a picture. I don't even know what to say about this?!? Just stay away from this company!

The initial response was great. Keith came out the same day that I called to give me an estimate. We were having one rain gutter out front (not very big) done and one bedroom that would become a nursery. The bedroom is two toned in color. Keith told me that we would need 3 to 4 gallons of paint for the top half of the room and 2 gallons for the bottom half. They were also going to paint the baseboards and chair rail, so that would take another gallon of paint. I was a little surprised at how high the estimate was ($1.034), but, because I'm pregnant, I can't do it myself right now. I agreed and Keith told me they were about three weeks out for scheduling. It was booked for a Friday and I took that day off. I dropped my daughter off at school early so I would be home in time for the painters to arrive. Instead, I got a phone call when I got home, telling me that the crew that was coming to do my job called in and they would have to reschedule. I asked for them to come Monday, but was told that was a busy day for them because they start new jobs on Mondays. It would be pushed to Tuesday, and I needed to take another day off. I also had to make arrangements to delay furniture that was supposed to be delivered for that room. Tuesday morning, the painter showed up on time. He was very nice and professional. He started the job and a while later, another painter arrived and was also nice and professional. (I wish I could remember their names, they were great!) I was asked to come into the room to check one of the colors. I had originally picked the colors from Sherwin Williams. Keith had told me that they use Dunn Edwards and asked for the name and number of the paint to do a color match. The bottom color was totally wrong. I'm glad the painter recognized it immediately before he painted the whole area. They were going to have to go get new paint. I was also told they only had one gallon for the top half and would need to get more to finish that anyway. Keith gave me an estimate that included purchasing 3-4 gallons for that one section. And they only actually bought one. And only one for the bottom half as well. Now the painter has to stop his work for an hour to get more paint. This finished product turned out great. I was very happy with the painters. I am not at all impressed with the way this company is run. No consideration for the fact that I was now out two days of work and had to rearrange my schedule to furnish the room. The cost seemed a bit high, but now I know some of that is being charged for a product that they don't even buy. Overall, I would not recommend this painting company to anyone I know.

Hello, We're glad you were happy with the painters job and overall product. We're sorry you were unhappy with the job being moved and the price. The painter called in sick and that is really out of our hands, it is never our intention to inconvenience our customers but we do not pick up guys from the side of the road and we would rather be honest with you and postpone the job a few days than to just give you some painters who don't have the skill to properly complete your job. Regarding the gallons used, we did use 4 gallons of paint for the job which is what Keith estimated. Sometimes coverage can vary depending on how well the paint covers. We do the best we can to estimate paint and if it takes more than we figured we don't ever ask for more money. In this case it took one gallon less that we estimated. Again, we know you are happy with the final product and for that we are glad. If there is anything we can do to improve our overall rating with you please call me directly at 480-688-4577. Joe Campbell - Owner.
