ABF U Pack Moving Inc

I scheduled a move, but subsequently cancelled it when I decided to buy used furniture for my daughter rather than shipping her furniture from home. ABF was easy to work with on the phone, both in scheduling and canceling. (I was a little concerned that the company might make it difficult to cancel even though I was in the designated time frame for canceling, but the concern was unfounded.) ABS was very responsive.

The pickup was on the day scheduled...just a little later in the day (understandably) because of bad weather -- snow, etc. -- in metro Detroit. The pickup driver was very professional. It was delivered to a gated apartment complex in Carlsbad, CA exactly as scheduled one week after we called for pickup in White Lake. Their online tracking system was great -- following the progress across the country each day. Upack also lined us up with a moving company out of San Diego who unloaded the cube. It took a senior male three days to load it; but, the two movers unloaded to a second floor apartment in less than an hour. Both UPack and the Moving company called my cell phone with the latest timely information during the process. WAY better than taking a UHaul across country. The quote and final cost was all inclusive -- pickup, mileage, gas, etc. The movers in California was a separate charge. I also got a quote from PODS. Their cost was comparable; but, since I mentioned to them that I was also getting a quote from UPack, PODS's follow-up email took the opportunity to say what was wrong with UPack. I get turned off when companies go negative about their competitors.

They delivered the trailer on time to load it. They picked it up when we were finished. They said the truck would arrive in Wisconsin in 3-5 days. I called them and confirmed they were on schedule. I drove to Wisconsin and was waiting Friday morning but no trailer. I contacted ABF and they said there was heavy snow and the truck was tied up in New England and would have great difficulty getting through Chicago because of the snow. I asked how the trailer got all the way to New England and they responded that the trailer was still in Grand Island, Nebraska. They said the truck would be there the next day on Saturday. No trailer on Saturday. The local ABF started handling my requests for true information. ABF said the truck will be there on Monday but we needed to be back in Nebraska. The trailer finally showed up. Because we were not there, we had to make arrangements for friends to direct (room locations, etc.) the unloading of the truck. Dee from ABF finally admitted that we were not notified on the late arrival until after the fact, apologized, and gave me $150. My out of pocket costs for 4 wasted days was gas ($198.88), 8 meals ($187.20 including tips), and 2 days of net salary ($549.07). Because I am retiring, I would have been paid for every potential vacation day I did not take. I also was charged $60.00 by the group unloading the track. This group is an affiliate of ABF and I was earlier assured that ABF would handle communication with the unloaders. This totals $995.15. Now on Friday, I am going back to Wisconsin to finish what should have been done a month ago spending another $1000.00 I would not recommend them. The group that unloaded the truck, which was an affiliate of ABF, charged me $60 because the truck was late which was not my fault.

So far, they have been great and done everything as promised. Competitive pricing.

Would I use them again? YES. Mainly because they beat everyone else's quote by 30%. Was I happy? Not entirely.

Their people and partners were accommodative and professional. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.

The trailer was delivered. ABF contracted with Moving Staffers, who contracted with Budget Moving and Packing out of Denver, CO to provide the labor for loading the trailer. I had moving blankets and purchased additioal ones for the move, as well as several hundred feet of nylon rope. I offered to go buy additional moving blankets if needed as the U-Haul dealer was about 5 minutes from my home. I had wrapped quite a bit of furniture and watched as the men carefully loaded those pieces. I assumed they were professionals and knew what they were doing. I finished packing other items as the two men loaded the trailer. At one point I went to get my handgun and put it in my car. It was missing. I had taken it out of the safe and put it under my dresser the night before. I have a signed note saying the gun was missing. Both men said they had seen it but didn't know where it was. One suggested that it might be in a cedar chest they had already loaded. The trailer was over half full at this point and I had to leave the next morning so I didn't have them unload and reload. They fiished loading and left. When the trailer was unloaded here by the movers they asked me to look at the load when they removed the bulkhead. Things had fallen down everywhere. An antique table I cautioned the movers about when loading and asked them to put it on top was on the bottom of the trailer with boxes stacked on top. It is in pieces. My heavy wrought iron chaise lounges were on top of the fragile boxes (everything was marked as to contents and if fragile). My double cherry bed frame was not wrapped in anything and the bicycles were laying on top of it. I had purchased a stainless french door refrigerator 2/2013 and it didn't even have a blanket over it. One entire side is scratched with scratches and dents all over it. My wooden chairs and sofa frame are scratched and gouged. I have pictures of the load documenting the problems. They didn't use the rope I provided and I had moving blankets left over. I found the gun case in the cedar chest and it was empty. I reported it as stolen to the Loveland, CO police department. After several months of contacting these companies and the police department no one is willing to take responsibility for the disaster. The two men who loaded the trailer both have criminal records. One was in jail a few weeks ago and the detective was going to interview him about the missing gun. These are the men they were sent to my home!

Made the trip much more enjoyable. No casualties during the move either. Very punctual and no hidden fees/charges.

From start to finish, ABF was terrific. Even despite the fact that we had to change our move date a few times, they dropped the trailer off when they said they would and the guy who delivered it explained the ramp and the bulkhead to me. He was patient with me as I tried to learn how it all worked. We were given three days to get the trailer loaded, but when that wasn't enough time, they worked with us at the last minute, and extended the pickup date by three extra days...without charging us a dime extra. The trailer sat, locked up, at their terminal here in Asheville until we had a place to move into. The storage fee of $395 a month was a wee bit steep, but considering the fact that we didn't have to unload it into a storage unit for four months, it was definitely well worth it. Asheville can experience significant downpours of rain, as well as sweltering humidity. Not one of our belongings was damaged due to either rain or humidity, and seems to have remained completely dry in the trailer. Two caveats: These trailers are designed for hauling freight, and don't have shocks, making for a no doubt rougher ride than what a true moving trailer/truck. We were very fortunate to know this in advance, and packed accordingly. Boxes were packed with lots of padding, and were filled as full as possible so they would not crush. Also, whoever is loading the trailer for you (if you're not doing it yourself)...make sure they use pads on any furniture that is packed against the side of the trailer. You'll be glad this step was taken. I would recommend you have something on the floor of the trailer, beneath your stuff...partly to give it extra cush, but also so that the bottoms of your boxes and furniture do not take on the dirt created inevitably on the floor of a freight trailer. Pack carefully and strategically, and you will likely find yourself pleased to have used ABF for your move. Also, it's best if you have help with the bulkhead and the ramp...they are both quite cumbersome, and not really fun to handle on your own.

WONDERFUL SO FAR, THEY WILL PICK UP THEIR TURCK ON MONDAY. TRUCK HAD A LEAK IN THE ROOF BUT THEY ARE SENDING FORMS IN CASE THINGS DO NOT DRY OUT WITH OUT STAINING.

I was a little weary at first trusting all my worldly possessions to total strangers but everything went extremely well. We had originally requested for a 17ft space, but we ended up using 23ft because we decided last minute to add our Harley Davidson bike. Everything made it to Florida ok and on time. The staff are really pleasant and professional and it was an overall nice experience.

They came when they said they would come and did a great job of packing.

Everything turned out Amazing. It was timely, inexpensive, and none of our stuff was broken. I would highly recommend them to others. It was a great experience however I would not hire them to pack the truck which is an add on.

After reading horror stories about truck rentals and moving companies [I even got an outrageous quote from a moving company that was $1000 higher than U-Pack], I went online to the U-Pack site and got an instant quote on 3 cubes. I called in a few days later and quickly scheduled my delivery of the empty cubes. It was painless and professional. On the day of delivery of the cubes, the driver was incredibly professional and the cubes fit perfectly in my driveway. I had plenty of time to load, I was able to put my own locks on the cubes, and I just called to schedule the pickup a few days later. I didn't know my new address at the time, but they were extremely flexible and just told them to let them know the new address when I had it. We drove across the country without hassling with a moving truck or worrying about getting to Colorado in a set amount of time. It was enjoyable and worry free. When we got to Colorado, I scheduled the drop off of the cubes and they were there at 10AM the next morning ready for me to unload. It only took the weekend and the help of a friend to unload them, so I saved a ton of money by not hiring movers to help. When we were finished, I just called to have them picked up and they were gone that Monday. The whole experience was incredible and stress-free. I'm so happy with U-Pack and grateful that they cared about my stuff. I would use them again in a heartbeat if I had to move across the country again, and I would recommend them to anyone who is going through a similar move.

They were very good, we have not received our items yet but everything so far has been good. When we called them originally we had a solid date for moving, then we had to postpone. They were excellent when we called them up and they were flexible with our issues and stored our items.

This is a service where you pack your stuff yourself, so if anything gets broken its because you didn't pack it properly. Not a thing of mine got broken, I would definitely use them again! Friendly service even though I had an issue with a bulkhead, they sent a guy all the way out just to help me. Half the price of Pods for a Florida to Wisconsin move! Aside from getting one of the cubes, if that's not enough you can rent 13 feet of a trailer, and if you need more feet of it (its 28 feet long) you can buy more feet, even though I didn't need to I found that comforting. The prices are fair and upfront, no playing around. They charge by the foot and that's it. It went very easy! This is the only moving service I would use again. Very happy!

It went smoothly, the bulk head was a little difficult to uninstall. I recommend they assist with the bulk head and also assist setting up the off load ramp. They were prompt with delivery on both ends and met their schedule as promised. The goods were transproted with no damage.

The problem we had was in the pick up city. First the local carrier said they did not do our town Norwich NY). Thank goodness I called National # which set local carrier straight. The container was dropped off as scheduled by a pleasant and helpful driver. Problem was that when we called on Friday for a Monday morning pick up, they did not arrive. There was no call, nothing. In fact the person (Dale) I spoke to had no recollection of Friday's call. When I called him Monday, Dale said it would be there later in the afternoon. When it did not arrive, I called him again and he said, didn't someone call you to say it will be Tues. morning? Obviously not or I would not be calling again. I asked for a courtesy call when they leave terminal. They did arrive and picked up container, but no call. I understood I did not have to be present, but I specifically said I wanted to. Now I was concerned that the container would not arrive as scheduled. We had a tight window and I knew we had no guarantee, but we were told it would get there in 5 business days. We allocated 5-7 bus. days. Well as we were driving into Las Vegas (our destination) we actually passed the container. We called Las Vegas Terminal and they delivered in the next day as scheduled. We unloaded it ourselves that day and called to have it picked up at their convenience. It was picked up that day. The Las Vegas terminal was courteous, pleasant and right on time. TIP to note: The driver said that if we asked the Terminal they would have dropped off a hand truck if available at no cost. Everything arrived in good condition, note we packed it tight. Other problems was when scheduling with main office. I called back to get status if they secured me 2 small containers or if I had to get a large container and use what I needed. I did not get a return call after repeated attempts. I eventually used a different rep. at U-Pak. Bottom line is I would use them again. Now I know what problems might arise, I can avoid those with better planning on my part. If you insist on packing it yourself, then they are you best choice. You pay for the space you use. We kept ours to the req. min of 5 linear ft. on the truck. When we finished, we put up a wall they supplied and locked it with our lock and only we had the key. We gave them an overall C, because we had to balance the departure which rated a D, with the destination which rated an A. They got extra points for delivering timely within 5 bus. days. Also my credit card was not charged in advance, but when delivered. Thank you

It went extremely well. All aspects of the move went smoothly and they delivered all services as promised. Highly recommend ABF for one's moving needs.

They were very punctual and professional. They only negative thing was the linked us to moving staffers who did a horrible job.

It has been a process of a few weeks. They were good. I do however, recommend that you find your own people to load and unload your things. They hired a company to unload and load the items. They said that Moving Staffers was their sister company, which looks for people to load and unload in your area. They hired Blue Chip to do the work, and I didn't like them. I didn't feel like I saved a lot of money by using them.

I moved from GA to PA. Mine was 2 bed room apartment. So I thought taking the trailer is better instead of fitting in cubes.I got a decent price for 10 cubic feet. It was $ 1700. My loading helpers did not load the truck to the fullest and wasted lot of space. So I ended up paying for 18 cubic feet. The Upack trailer came on time and driver was professional. We loaded the stuff into the truck and locked it. They moved the trailer on the same day which was perfect since it was public storage and I dont want to cause any hindrance to the Public storage facility by blocking the way. One thing I did not like about Upack is that they did not mention about the additional cost for change in the destination zip code even though the original place of unloading the trailer in PA was just 4 miles from the new destination I provided. They charged me additional $400 for just a change of 5 miles in the original address vs the updated address. I had mentioned to them earlier during the sales call that I am just providing an approximate location since I have not leased a new apartment in PA. They said they had issues of union which I did not understand. So I told them to keep the trailer in their warehouse and I had to rent a truck and loaders to move the stuff from trailer to the new truck. They gave me a discount since they were delivering the container to the final destination. But it was a pain for me to rent the truck and arrange for the movers and drive the truck etc. So what I would like every customer to know is that if you are not sure about the destination address, beware of the additional charges. I wish Upack would have communicated that upfront during the sales call. Otherwise they are a great company. They were punctual and professional. Thanks for the service. - Arun

The entire operation went flawlessly! The- coordination by telephone was very simple and to the point. The agreed to schedule was executed as planned and the loading support to load the POD could not have been better. Every ABF representative and sub rep. were exceptionally helpful and polite. The small move ( U-Haul type) would have cost 50% at a minimum all of the stress avoidance was well worth it. I would not hesitate to do this again with ABF,
