This is the third project Evans Painting has performed for me. One downside of having masonite siding is the need to keep it caulked and painted. Tim Evans came out and quoted my exterior painting. He also noticed the flashing on the chimney was causing water to run down the inside of the chimney. It caused the Masonite to rot. He repaired the siding and replaced with new material. Thankfully I found Evans Painting several years ago. They have never let me down; are always on time and their pricing is lower than the competitors. One other plus of working with Evans Painting is their staff has been with them for a long time. How many paint contractors have that kind of consistency?
Description of Work: Replaced rotten siding, rotting wood columns and painted my exterior.

I would get at least three references from any contractor before making a decision. Angie's list recommendations are not enough, because most people are too busy to or don't want the hassle of filing a complaint. I might go look at some of the jobs they had done for similar work. Mr. Evans really applied a lot of pressure on me for final payment, even though it was obvious to me that they had not actually completed the work, and much of it was of inferior quality. The shingles that were installed by one worker were very even and consistent; however the shingles replaced by others were not sized correctly (lots of little pieces) or cut evenly, either horizontally or vertically.
Description of Work: I contracted with Evans Painting to replace curled shingles and re-attach loose shingles on three sides of my house and re-stain three sides to blend in with the side that was in good condition. I also contracted with them to replace and paint the rotted drip trim in several areas. The contract price for the work was close to $6,000. Although Evans insisted that I pay them the full balance of the contract immediately upon their completion of the job (they require 1/3 down before starting a job), I declined to do so for the following reasons: many of the cedar shingles were improperly cut, sized, and installed; the application of stain was very uneven, with many shingles standing out like "badly capped teeth, as one neighbor commented. The woodwork on the house was not properly covered to prevent the stain from falling on it, and they had not re-painted it. The back and side of the house actually looked worse in most respects than it looked before they started the work, in my view and in the opinion of neighbors and my realtor. The work just did not look like the kind of professional job I would have expected of such a highly rated and long-lived company. Even the worksite was not cleaned up, and I found all kinds of trash, including remnants of meals and beer cans in the bushes in the back yard. Because of a prior commitment I had made to be away from Birmingham from July 28-August, I asked my daughter to supervise the completion of the job in my absence. Mr. Evans did not want to do any work without my being present; so we agreed to complete the work in September. I have called three times and sent three emails to get Evans Painting to meet with me to complete the job, but they have not responded to my emails except to tell me they were in Florida working on a job there. Because I am trying to get the house in pristine condition to offer it for sale, I have had to contract with someone else to get the exterior in showable condition.

Member, you and I discussed using a solid stain when I first came out to bid your job. I told you the only way to achieve a consistent, uniform look was to use solid stain or paint due to your siding being so badly weathered. I encouraged you to use a solid stain but you told me that you did not want a "uniform" look and understood that semi-transparent stain was not going to look consistent. You and I had looked at the job together several times during the course of the job and I fully believed that you were happy with everything. Even the last day that we worked at your home, you and I walked around your house a few hours before we finished and you told me that you thought it looked great. You never stated to me that you were displeased with any work until we were finished with the job. After discussing with you the things that you were not happy with, we agreed that we would come back that Monday morning and re-stain the side and the back as well as replace the shingles that you were not happy with in an attempt to satisfy you. When we arrived that Monday morning, you were not there. I then called you on your cell phone and you unexpectedly told me that you were going to North Carolina that day and would not be back till sometime in mid-September, which was six weeks later. I told you that I would like to go ahead and finish up before you leave to go out of town for such a long period of time, Member you then told me “the best thing you can do is not to bother trying to get the rest of the money or I will make you look real bad on Angieslist”. I told you that I worked very hard on your home and I fully expected to be paid, to which you hung up on me. I spoke with two of your neighbors after the job was completed who thought the job looked great and one who told me “good luck getting paid”, as if this has happened before. Also, as far as any trash being left on your property, especially beer cans is not true. Me, my brothers nor any of my employees even drink alcohol. I have been in this business all of my life and have thousands of satisfied customers, many right here on Angieslist and I can honestly say that this is a first for me. At this point, I am out over $1,300.00 of my own money, not including the $4000.00 that you still owe me. I fully believe that you had no intention of ever paying me for my services.

The crew did a great job. They weren't noisy, they cleaned up after themselves, they were kind, and they gave me left over paint for any touch ups. They began work on a Sunday and were done by Tuesday.
Description of Work: The guys at Evans Painting pressure washed the exterior of my house, calked window/door frames and open gaps in my siding, did some repair work on rotten siding and deck rails, and painted the exterior of my house, including trim and shutters/doors. They did a wonderful job, and I'm actually about to email them again for another project...

It took longer than I thought because of interruptions by rain. Overall it went well. An A on the painting and screen replacement. B+ on the chalking.
Description of Work: They were to replace rotten wood, paint the whole house and replace the screen on the porch. The paint and screen replacement look very good. They could not find wood to match the wood on the gable of the house. They repaired some of the wood and replaced a place that could not be patched. I was somewhat disappointed in how this turned out. I had three quotes, with the 10% discount, they were equal to one quote and better than the third company.

We are extremely pleased with how our house turned out. We had stayed with the same basic colors but the fresh paint really makes a difference. I was even more surprised by the deck, our deck is approximately 12 years old. I didn't think there would be anyway it would clean up as well as it did. We would highly recommend Evans Painting to anyone looking to have their house painted. They are extremely professional, started the job when agreed and finished within a week.
Description of Work: Cleaned and pressure washed exterior of house, then caulked and painted all exterior surfaces. They replaced the damaged section of trim around the fireplace. They also cleaned and pressure washed a two level deck and applied a water sealant.

One of the best home contracting experiences I've ever had. Evans painting had a very competitive estimate and did an excellent job replacing rotten wood along window panes and eves. Tim and his crew were all very professional and pleasant to work with. They went above and beyond to run to a Hardware store to get more wood to replace rotten pieces that I had seen before myself. Offered to come back and fix/touch up anything that I wasn't pleased with. They even found the paint I used to for my front door in my garage and went ahead and painted it.

Very positive experience. Tim and his crew are as responsive, courteous, professional and honest as any home contractor I've ever had and as the owner of old houses, I've had more than my share. They always followed up at various stages to ensure we were happy with the work. The project was completed timely and they always communicated need to reschedule around weather delays. Only issue was that they seemed hurried toward the end and left some little items, like some caulking and finishing touch ups to be done. Tim immediately volunteered to come out and take care of those items, however. As best I can tell, they are ready to stand behind their warranty. We have subsequently engaged them to complete some interior painting. All English speaking crew, the majority of whom I believe are local firefighters. The price bettered the competing 3 or 4 quotes I had by a decent margin.
Description of Work: Painting of entire exterior (except trim) of large historical house, including large beadboard ceiling of porch. They also replaced17-20 siding boards. Prior to painting, they pressure washed and shaped surface of loose paint.

See the above description which incorporates these points
Description of Work: In conjunction with major remodeling of house which took an extended period of time, they worked cooperatively with the contractor and around his efforts and completed both exterior and interior painting to our complete satisfaction. Contract also included repair of about 12 feet of soffit on the screened porch which was also done to our complete satisfaction. Used the brands of paint and custom colors that we selected/created. These are three brothers who obviously like each other, are very compatible and work very well together in a coordinated fashion that was a pleasure to experience. All are gentlemen and very good natured. I have not only recommended them to friends, but I will use them again for either interior or exterior painting. Based on experience and comparison with two other companies on prior occasions, the Evans brothers are clearly superior. I recommend them without reservation.

Tim and his brothers did excellent work. I received 3 different quotes from reputable painters and his was approximately $800 less for the same work. They were punctual, friendly, respectful, and very professional. The house was pressure washed on day 1 then painted on days 2-3. They used high quality paint and matched the colors perfectly. They were careful with the landscaping and flower beds and did not damage any gutters, house, etc. One window was missed but when informed Tim was very apologetic and returned the same day to paint it. They even stopped working one day to help my wife open her garage door that was stuck! (Thanks guys!) Overall Evans Painting was wonderful and I would definitely hire/recommend them in the future. Thanks again! J. Burke

I am a repeat customer of Evans Painting. When I first purchased my home in 2006, it was in desperate need of sheetrock repair, painting and lighting. I was pleasantly surprised with the affordable quote that I was given. The price was extremely fair. I was worried that the popcorn removal in the affected area would be messy, but that was not the case at all. The work was completed in a very timely manner and I was very pleased with the quality and cleanliness of their work. In February of this year (2012) I was again in need to repair work. I had damage from the recent storms and was in need of fast, reliable service. I did not hesitate to call Tim Evans. He and his team are prompt, courteous and clean! Evans Painting is my provider of choice.
Description of Work: What have they not done! My most recent project included ceiling repair (storm damage), ceiling popcorn removal, full interior paint including trim. They are also scheduled to come back in April to repair my chimney, install crown molding and paint my exterior.

Evans Painting was caring and professional from start to the very end. My husband made the decision to hire Evans after consulting with several companies. It was their years of experience and business demeanor that won our trust. They are a family company. They made a point to go through every step they would take to prepare our cedar siding which included caulking and sealing. We had damaged wood around our home and our windows needing repair and reglazing, so they repaired and sealed all that was needed. They also went above and beyond by fixing a cracked window pan on my kitchen window. Evans is expedient and thorough. After finishing the job, they mentioned several times to contact them if we found anything that needed more attention. Our satisfaction was their overall goal. If you are reading this, I highly recommend Evans. My husband and I are budget conscience and their estimate was more than fair for their quality of work and our piece of mind.

Tim and his crew are fast, courteous, and professional. He gave me an estimate for the work within hours of my call, then stopped by to get the contract signed the same week. The next week they pressure washed the house on Day 1, then painted Days 2 & 3. They also hung new shutters for us. In addition to being fast, courteous, and professional, they did a very thorough job. They kept the white paint where it was supposed to be (on the house) and not where it wasn't (deck, driveway, yard, etc.). Overall, this was one of the best contractor experiences I ever had, and I just cannot say enough good things about Tim and his crew. They are the epitome of what contracting should be, and they put all others in the Birmingham area to shame!!
Description of Work: We had the exterior of our house painted, with a change in color from tan to white. Our exterior siding is masonite. We also requested new shutters be hung once painting was complete.

House was pressure washed on Day 1, then painted on Days 2-3. I provided a project summary describing what was (and was not) to be painted. I rated the quality as a B because: 1. The lintel over the new person door to the garage was not painted (as specified) 2. On the lintel for the new garage door, only the bottom was painted and not the lip. 3. There was about a 3" square of wood left unpainted behind the door leading from the garage to the screened porch. The wood was being painted white and the unpainted part was new wood. 4. The base of a wall in the screened porch was not caulked as they'd agreed to. Fortunately, they gave me the leftover paint, so I was able to complete these items. Note that the quantity of paint was significantly underestimated. They apparently budgeted for 8 gallons and after using 18 gallons, they were going back for still more paint. I don't know the final gallon count. But since all estimates were so close I think the other companies also had faulty estimates. If you select Evans, be sure to do a careful inspection before they leave. I did that, and had them repaint some areas but I still missed the items listed above. I think they were in a hurry to be done with our house because they rang the bell to say they were done and that's when I walked around.
Description of Work: Pressure wash, caulk and paint exterior woodwork with SW Duration paint. We solicited 4 bids for this project- 2 on Angie's list and 2 recommended by our contractor. Feeling that all would do a credible job, we went with the lowest bid. Not including the Angie's discount the bids were $4200, $4420, $4500, and $5200.

I setup an appointment with Tim Evans to come out and give an estimate on some exterior painting. I initially called Tim based on their excellent rating on Angie's List. The estimate was turned around quickly and very detailed outlining everything we had discussed. Tim and crew showed up on time and he always kept me informed via email about the status of the job. Their work is very neat and professional and I am extremely pleased with the results. For any future painting needs, Evans Painting will be the one I call. And they will certainly be the one I recommend to any friends and neighbors needing paint work.

The guys did a great job. They were there when they said they would be, they did it right the first time, and were meticulous. All seams were caulked prior to painting, and the house now looks great! The guys did an excellent job. They were very professional and went above and beyond the job without charging more than the original estimate. They had a complete plan of how to make the needed repairs after one walk around the house. The house looks great after the painting.
Description of Work: Made cosmetic repairs to exterior of house, tore down old gutters, replaced some rotting trim around windows and painted exterior of house including shutters, doors, and trim.
