Description of Work: I had a leak coming from behind a bookcase. It was determined that the bookcase would have to be removed in order to ascertain the location of the leak. I contacted Mr. Tommy Glass of Tommy's Painting & Carpentry. The first time I was to meet Mr. Glass he failed to show, but it was late on a Friday and I know the firm has other commitments so I decided to go by and see him. We talked a bit and scheduled another appointment. He arrived on time and I proceeded to show him my problem and what it would require and he quoted me a price of $1800. I thought the price was a bit high, but he assured me the job would be done right. We set up a time for the carpenters to come out and they were right on time. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly and efficiently they were able to remove the bookcase virtually intact. This task was made even more difficult because of a gas line that ran in the back of the bookcase bottom to our fireplace. Once the leak was found, it became necessary for the two carpenter's to remove the back panels from under an upstair's bathroom sink and adjoining closet. This was not part of the original requirement and cost an additional $300. After the leak was repaired, the carpenters returned replaced some sheet rock, put the bookcase back, and put in new panels under the sink and in the closet. The work was excellent, the carpenters polite and very professional. The only downside to this venture was the $2100.00 for around 10 hours work. But I have to admit that I can't complain about the results.

Description of Work: Had Tommy replace 2 storm doors for me. Took a little extra time due to the weather. Very accommodating of my need for it to be done on a Saturday. Work was quick and professional and looks great. Now for the next rainstorm to see if they function properly.

I did not hire him!
Description of Work: I called to see if I could get an estimate on having the interior of our home painted. Tommy was very nice and professional and came out the very next day. We are in the process of moving and needed not only some painting done but also a small nook drywalled and closed in and painted. With the painting, we needed small holes patched and such. When he got here, I first showed him the front door that needed to be sanded and painted. Then I began to show him the house. I do understand that he is the professional, but I had little to no say the entire time of trying to tell him what I would like done. He told me what needed to be and when I said I would like different colors in the hall and bedroom he corrected me and said one color(tan) would be the best thing to go with. It was like I had no say. And it wasn't like the colors I wanted were crazy or loud, it was just gray and green. Then he began to add a few things that he thought would look nice and add "class"-ex. wood border around the bathroom mirror. And while he was telling me what all he was going to do, he kept answering his phone that rang so loudly! By the end when I asked how much it would be, I was so disheartened and upset I knew he wasn't the right choice for us. He was professional enough, but very OVER-priced ($8200)and he didn't listen to what his customer wanted and had his own vision of what he was going to do and add. Sq ft 1500

When I first called Tommy he told me that I had called the right guy, and he was right. He came by to see the work, went and found some prices for us for a new door, and called to give a full estimate including the door. We had a last minute change in plans but Tommy just rolled with it. We bought our own door at Home Depot which Tommy picked up and brought to the job site on day one. Knowing they would not finish the work in one day he strategically left most of the wall in order to leave the house secure over night, then returned and completed the job the next day. The section of the house where the work was done was built in the 70's and while there were complications Tommy and his crew were more than up for the task. Upon completion Tommy pointed out that there was quite a big step down from the house to the patio area and offered to build us a step that would nicely add to the look of the new door. This was great, but the new step required modifications to our gutter system as it would go across one of the drains. Tommy fixed that as well, with no change to the agreed upon price. We love our new patio door, and already have Tommy scheduled for more work around the house.
Description of Work: Converted a 6' window bank into a patio door. Custom built a new deck/step.

They were interested in having the business. They followed up their quote with contacts; not to the point where they were annoying. They asked if I had questions and I do not think the company was a fly-by-night firm. We did not use them because we have decided to postpone having the project done. I will have them quote again in the future.

He is really reasonable and really good. He never really scheduled a time but he more less just said he would be by and he was always there. He was so good I just never set a time and he squeezed me in so fast. I called and he was on other jobs and I don't know if he was letting the paint dry and came over and fixed mine or what. He needed help on the second day on the rain gutters and he brought another guy with him. He seems really reasonable and he does about everything sound like he does fence work.

Tommy was punctual, professional, and kept his word. The one time he was running late he called me to let me know (ten minutes late). Tommy kept within the timeframe and the amount of money quoted. He is trustworthy and oversaw the services performed personally. I would recommend Tommy's Painting & Carpentry to my family and friends. I will use Tommy's Painting & Carpentry again. I am very satisfied and so is my family.
Description of Work: Job performed included: tearing down a wall between living room and den. Painted the interior of the house to include two bedrooms (one master bedroom), hallway, two bathrooms, living room and den. The painting included the ceilings in all the rooms painted (some had to be scrapped prior to painting) and inside closets. Several 'handyman' duties included: fixing the back door (such as reglueing the window frame outlines then sanding and painting) plus weatherproofing, weatherproofing the kitchen door (including the door catches - wouldn't close easily), replacing the wooden floor under the kitchen sink, laying laminate flooring in the master bedroom. Also, put in a doorknob on a closet and adjusted the kitchen drawers for easier closing.

Requested a bid from Tommy and he came out that day to assess the project. He immediately gave me a quote to do the project - he told me himself that he probably was not the cheapest and he probably wouldn't be the most expensive. Key to his bid was that he was the only contractor that would take the project without requiring the metal gazebo to be sand blasted first by a separate contractor in order to remove the rust. His people came out the next week (he had up to four people working on the project at any one time). In 8 working days (they do not work on the weekend), they removed the rust, added a primer to both the gazebo and the railing, installed 3 boards to the gazebo which were rotting through and then applied the final paint coating to both the gazebo and the railing. He also added matched color doors to the outdoor bar/sink under the gazebo. My wife and I were extremely pleased with the end result. He also gave us a 2 year warranty on anything that went wrong with the paint job (i.e. rust coming back through). Overall, a very good experience, and I would recommend his company again.
Description of Work: Stripped rust off of and painted standing metal gazebo which was rusted over. Painted gazebo, deck railing, and installed doors to outdoor sink/bar unit.

Tommy came by and gave an estimate. The first day, the men worked on the bathroom ceilings and caulked. They were neat, efficient, and quiet. Tommy called to make sure that the work was going okay. One of the ceilings did not look good so Tommy came back and worked on it himself. The next week they started painting the Kitchen--Tommy picked out several samples and we matched the color with one in a tile picture that I had hanging in the kitchen. The workmen came and patched and prepared the walls one day and started painting the second day. They were going from dark red to a yellow gold so they had to put on two coats. The third day, they came back and finished the kitchen an put on another coat since they said they could see some red. They pressure washed the house and then started repairing and painting the trim. It looks beautiful. All the workmen are professional and Tommy is determined to do make sure we're satisfied!
