TOMMY'S PAINTING & CARPENTRY

Was very professional. Was courtious and provide additional advice for next roject.

We requested a quote via Angie's List and Tommy's painting called us right away. He came out to measure and give an estimate, but while walking around, tended to interject opinions on paint color, etc - which is fine, but calling me "hon" while doing it was not necessary. After evaluating the scope of work (approximately a 3100 square foot house), he quoted $18,000 for the necessary work. I nearly gasped, and thought he must have misspoke. My husband came into the room and I asked Tommy to repeat his quote (thinking he must have meant $1,800 - which would have been on the very low end of what we were expecting). Nope, again it was $18,000 for interior painting - more than quadruple what any other painter has estimated the job for. Would not hire and would not recommend.

Gave me an outrageous price and refused to give me a written estimate. Said he would write it up if I gave him the job.

They did fantastic work! Started by pressure washing the deck to get it clean. I was very happy with the color and with how quickly they finished the job. The deck looks great.

They showed up on time and when they said they would. They performed all services in an exemplary fashion and finished everything within the time frame they said they would for a the price they quoted.

The owner came out originally to survey the project; took the time to answer all of my questions; and pointed out some things needing attention that I was not previously aware of. He then gave me a quote of $300 which I gladly accepted. Following that, two members of his crew came out several different times to work on fixing the leak, and then to make sure that the leak had in fact been repaired. After that they installed the new window sill, and then painted it with the exact same trim cover as the previous sill had. They were personable and always ensured my approval of the work performed before departing. (I have attached "before" and "after" photos. The black streaks on the "after" photo are my doing.)

They gave me an estimate for $9000.00. I ended up hiring someone else who was recommended to me for just $2200.00. I felt this estimate was very high.

I read a previous review that started, "Fantastic.." I agree. Work was performed when and as stated, attention to detail was excellent, employees were good workers and professional, and they actually did more than I expected (attention to detail). The owner is a good man and keeps his word. Plus, Mr. Glass gave a five year warranty on his work. This is the only painting company I would ask to do work on my property here in Montgomery.

These guys were fantastic. Meticulous in their work. On time. His quote for service was several hundred dollars lower than other quotes received. I could not have been more pleased with Tommy's Painting and Carpentry. My neighbors who see the results are very impressed and plan to use them. I will use them again in the near future for some other needs I have around the house. I give them my highest recommendation.

Tommy was great. He showed up on time. He did a great job. His work looks wonderful.

It was such a pleasure to work with Mr. Tommy Glass. Before performing the work, I ran into Tommy at the movie theater. It had been about 3 weeks since we met, he provided a quote and I scheduled to have the work performed. I was quite impressed when we talked that he remembered the details of my job, i.e. needing to determine the source of the water damage in the soffit. It was a pleasure to work with Tommy. I deal with stress enough on my job. I greatly appreciate his calm approach to meeting with customers and performing the work.

Did not use this guy and would not based on his missing two appointments for quotes.

The one thing I really liked was that he works on the weekends so I didn't have to take time off from work. His crew was extremely professional and friendly. They were also very efficient. We had to delay painting the doors for a week due to weather, but he works with you to make it happen. I just reccommended him to our CEO for some work he needs to have done.

I could not possibly be more pleased. This is the ONLY time I've ever hired a contractor and had absolutely NO complaint. I really wish I had taken some before photos to share.

Tommy failed to call back after standing me up for an appointment. The price quoted for the job was ridiculously high for prepping and painting a bathroom

Workmen were on time-pleasant and thorough.

Painters showed up to work and the owner was present but he left telling us this was his best team with his brother in charge. They were there a couple of hours and left. The work they had done was terrible. There were big gaps and sunken places in the window caulking. Very little scrapping had been done and paint had been applied over the old peeling paint. The owner was called to come look at the problems. He came and seemed to be shocked at the quality of the work. He said he would be back to redo the windows himself and the the correct scrapping would be done and the correct painting done. He came and fixed the windows and told his the painting crew would be back to finish. We had a couple of days of rain so I picked up the paint rags and other items they had left and put them into my bin boxes on my back porch. The owner called and said they were going to come by to pick the item up because they had an inside job they could be working on while it was raining. They came and took their items and my bin boxes. That was the last time they were here. They never came back to any work. Thankfully, I had not paid them anything, I had just bought the paint.

As stated above, it went extremely well.

Since I live out of state, I cannot determine the qaulity of the work firsthand. My rental agent said it looked good. Cost of work was very fair compaired to other estimates. Work took a couple of weeks longer than I expected but that may have been due to bad weather for the exterior painting.

Tommy and his crew were punctual, friendly, and professional. I try whenever possible to work with locally owned businesses. Getting the washer and dryer in place without moving the water heater was extremely difficult. Tommy was willing to work with the plumber to get this done. Communication could have been a little better. I would have appreciated a heads up on the days they would be creating a lot of dust so I could have covered the kitchen with drop cloths. Also the dryer vent did not get installed. I expected this to be at least a day's set-back, however Tommy took care of it that same day. I can still complain about having to do laundry but not about my new laundry room.

I felt that Mr. Glass was a bit too quick in his observations and that what he proposed was somewhat excessive than what was needed. He indicated that a board that had some discoloration on it was an indication of water damage. Had he inspected it he would have found that the wood was quite sound (indeed the caulk behind it was as fresh as the day it was applied). In one spot there was a place where the caulk had dried and the soffits appeared to be a little loose. I felt like that the caulk could be scraped out and re-caulked and the soffits just had a loose nail or two. Mr. Glass seemed to think the boards were rotten and needed to be replaced. I really couldn't see any evidence of this. I'm not a real big fan of pressure washing as a means of removing the old paint and cleaning mildew and algae. If not done correctly it can damage the wood. I also felt that four coats of paint was a bit too much. I should mention that my house is adjacent to two other houses on the east and west sides and the amount of light that reaches these walls is pretty limited - usually June is when these sides of the house get the most exposure to the sun. Mr. Glass provided a lump sum estimate with a list of what he would do. I prefer an itemization of the activities with the price for each component of work provided. It makes it easier to compare with other estimates and you can see what you are getting for your value. To be fair I think Mr. Glass is probably a decent painting contractor and he probably does good work. He indicated that when he does a job he does it to make it last as long as possible. I think he should just take a bit more time in his assessments.
