I had received another estimate first before Don Kennedy from AFS. The AFS estimate was outrageous at over twice as much as Don Kennedy and sons. Plus I felt uncomfortable because the sales rep for AFS kept trying to sell me a foundation encapsulating system for my crawl space and kept saying i had a moisture mold problem. I could go on about how much of a rip off I think AFS is but I want to praise Jeff Kennedy and his crew in this review. I will come back and edit my review and provide more detail. I do want to say you must give these guys a chance. Do not fall for fancy commercial advertising and high pressure tactics of doom and gloom from other foundation repair companies. Get an estimate from Jeff Kennedy and take advantage of his extensive knowledge and experience. He has been doing this type of thing his whole life and though I was skeptical at first I am a believer now. When you call Don Kennedy and sons Jeff Kennedy will give you a fair assessment of your home's condition. He wont make you think it is worse than it is and he isn't some salesman who works on commission. He has the experience and knowledge as does his crew he works with and he was involved in the process every step of the way and kept me informed continuously. He was also very patient with all of my questions and concerns and repeated himself when I needed more reassurance. I have a ton of respect for this company and I will recommend them forever.

The individual who did the estimate told us that the job would only take 2 to 3 loads of fill dirt at $500 per load. The job took 10 loads and tripled the cost of the job. The work crew were very professional. Mr. Kennedy's response was inaccurate of the situation. No additional work was done at no cost. The only thing the wife asked and paid the crew to do was move a five foot concrete statue from the corner of the yard where the pool was being demolished to a concrete pad at the back of the house. No top soil was delivered or grating done as requested but the cost of the grater which was never brought on the site, was charged and paid for as well as the rental of additional equipment required to do the job. When the foreman sent a member of his crew to Tall Paul Rentals in Athens, AL to rent some equipment, the people there refused to rent the equipment to Don Kennedy and Sons House Moving Company because of their bad reputation. Once I told friends and neighbors about the our experience, everyone then told me about Don Kennedy and Sons Moving Company's bad reputation. That is why I felt obligated to warn people through Angie's List. Mr Kennedy's equipment repeatedly broke down on the job. His crew broke a section of our wooden fence which I had to provide the boards for the crew to repair the fence otherwise Mr Kennedy would have charged me to repair my fence which is crew damaged. His equipment and two pallets of 100 year old bricks that I gave to Mr Kennedy sat in my driveway for over a month after the job was completed and final payment was made. Mr Kennedy never did a follow up call a week after the job was done. My wife had to call the foreman after a month and a half went by to come get their stuff out of the driveway. Once we wrote our review then we heard from Mr Kennedy and as I can see from his response he is still trying to mislead the public like he did with us with his estimate of $3200 to demolish an in the ground swimming pool which ended up costing us over $9000 and the backyard is not level as requested. I have a quote of $3500 from another company to finish the job that Don Kennedy was originally contracted to do which was in addition to demolishing the pool, was to take up the bricks and rocks around the pool, level the pool area, bring in topsoil, grate and seed the backyard.

Our patio had dropped about 1/4 inch along the back wall of our house due to soil settling and improper base preparation prior to pouring the patio floor. In the process the settling had caused a serious cracks to form in the brick line at several locations. Jeff Kennedy arrived promptly on the day promised to provide an estimate. In a matter of minutes he had sized up the problem and developed a plan of attack on how to raise the patio floor and subsequently close the cracks in the brick line. A challenging issue was the brick was no longer available which left no margin for error.To Jeff this was a routine repair that they had successfully addressed many times. An estimate was received within 24 hours. The price was fair and a date was set to begin. The crew arrived on the planned date as promised. The foreman, Ricky, and his team were knowledgable and extremely professional. We discussed the plan and how it would be implemented. The final results were better than expected. You would never know the extent of the repair. I was so pleased that I asked them to attack another issue where the front brick steps had dropped approximately 1/2 inch below the floor of the front porch due to soil settling. An estimate was provided from the office within 24 hours and the project was started. Several plantings had to be moved in order to reach the work area and complete the job. Again, Ricky and his team made it happen and you would never know they were here. No collateral damage--that's professionalism! Would I use them again, you .bet!

We never could get it going. They canceled the first appointment. We rescheduled for a week later when I would be back in town however I couldn't get away from work so I had to cancel. I made several calls and my wife made several calls trying to reschedule but we never could get a return call to confirm a time/date.

He was very good. He was responsive and I enjoyed his services. He was very professional and when he came to look at the house, he explained to me the seriosness of my problem which put me at ease knowing it wasn't critical. I appreciated his feedback adn that he wasn't trying to sell me anything I didn't need immediately.

Don Kennedy & Sons did an excellent job. Making an appointment with them was easy. They provided a written estimate within 24 hours of the initial inspection. Their estimate was 10% lower than other estimates I received. They were able to complete the work within one week and provided a written report and warranty.

DKS started work when they said they would although they took a good bit longer to finish than initially planned, but they were also working on my neighbor's house which complicated things a bit. They appeared to do a very thorough job in the excavation of the foundation and installation of the piers and drainage, I guess I won't know for a few years whether this completely solved my settling problems. They used a backhoe to dig out the foundation and this did a lot more damage to my yard than I was expecting, but this was probably more a matter of me not fully understanding the work. Almost two months later I'm still working to clean up my yard and get grass to grow where I was left with large areas of bare earth. In the process of excavating the foundation, the workers busted my water, sewer, and gas lines but repaired them at their expense. I'm a bit disappointed that there was no follow up from DKS after the workers left to make sure that the problem was solved and that I was satisfied with the work, seemed like they just wanted to get the job done and move on to the next one.

Jeff Kennedy was great to deal with. He spent the necessary time with us to help us understand the problems with our existing foundation and what would be necessary to repair the foundation. They showed up when they said they would be here, were always courteous, and did great work. We now get compliments when someone goes in our crawl space when they see the work that was done. I highly recommend this company for anyone looking for a reliable service provider with integrity and drive to treat their customers right.
