+ 1 moreWe called Guin and they were there a couple of hours later. The sewer line was backed up because of root growth. They cleared the line quickly. We use Guin whenever we have problems because they are courteous, reasonably priced, and fast. I recommend them highly to people in the Birmingham area.

No worries with these two men in your home. They are perfect gentlemen. Everything was left clean. We have used this company for many years and would not consider calling anyone else.
Description of Work: Tommy and Wes came to perform routine maintenance on our two units. In the process they discovered a switch in the attic was inoperable and offered to replace the switch.

+ -1 moreCompany did a good job at a very fair price. The hardest part was diagnosing where the leak was and for that we had to pay an additional $350 to a separate leak detecting company. However, once it was diagnosed, Guin came out promptly and fixed the leak. They had to dig a huge hole (3.5 feet deep) just to get to the pipe. We will use them again.

+ -1 moreDewayne arrived promptly and assessed the situation. He explained what needed to be done to fix my two sinks and gave me a quote to complete the necessary work. He didn't have the pop-up stopper for my bathroom sink in his truck, so he had to go back to his warehouse to get the supplies. He completed the work that day, even though it was a Friday afternoon. He did a great job on both of my sinks. They both drain better than they ever have before. He was very honest and trustworthy, too. My wife and I were about to go on a trip and had stopped by the bank to get some cash before we left. The envelope must have fallen out of my wife's purse onto the ground when we walked into our house. Dewayne found the envelope on the ground and brought inside for us! It is always nice to have someone who is honest, who could have taken the money but chose to bring it to us. I would definitely use Dewayne and Guin again.
Description of Work: I had 2 sinks (kitchen and bathroom) that were clogged and leaking. I used a store bought drain cleaner chemical that burned holes in my old pipes. Dewayne with Guin replaced the drain pipes in both drains and unclogged the drain lines. He also replaced the stopper on the bathroom sink.

+ -1 moreWater was leaking from upstairs bathroom and was creating a water spot and dripping onto the first floor ceiling. We know it was probably coming from one of the upstairs bathrooms but did not know if it was coming from the bath tub, sink or toilet. Plumber came in an tested all the faucets/drains/etc. Eventually added a dye to the water to determine the source which turned out to be the toilet. Apparently the flange was cracked and was slowly dripping water. They replaced the flange and everything is back to normal. Guin identified the problem after about an hour of troubleshooting. Once problem was identified, they quickly resolved the matter. They were professional, courteous and punctual. I got a call that the plumber was coming out with an ETA prior to his arrival. Everything was on time as discussed the day before. They did a very good job and would definitely use again if needed.
Description of Work: Water was leaking from the first floor ceiling. You could start to see a water spot starting to form as well as water dripping. We have a two story house.

+ -1 moreI called on Thursday and made an appointment for Monday. The items I needed addressed were not emergencies. The office person was very professional and told me that one of their plumbers lives in my area and would come by early Monday morning between 8 and 9 am before going into the office. On Monday, the plumber, Richard, called about 15 minutes before he was to arrive (about 8:15) to let me know he was on his way. He and his helper were also very professional and addressed each item shown above quickly and professionally. Although the work was simple, the way Richard and his helper handled the job led me to trust that they are capable plumbers. For example, our gas fireplace wasn't working, and I had no idea why. Richard looked in the basement and immediately identified the problem: the gas was not turned on for that line. I realized that when I had my HVAC system changed from gas to electric a couple of years ago, the workers must have turned off that gas valve and forgotten to turn it back on. However, instead of just turning it on, Richard also identified an adjacent line that had not been capped. He capped that line and then turned on the fireplace valve. He and his helper tested the fireplace to make sure everything was working. They then removed the jammed drain plug and gave me the estimate for running a water line to the veggie garden, which was more than I wanted to spend. So Richard gave me a helpful suggestion on how to raise the outdoor water faucet to waist high so I won't have to bend over to turn it on. I was very happy with the service and the price that was charged. I would definitely use Guin again!

Description of Work: Successfully removed clog in half bath toilet, replaced tank handle and flapper in master bathroom toilet, addressed leaky faucet issue in kitchen, and addressed low water pressure and leaky faucet in upstairs bathroom. All issues were handled in a timely and professional manner.

The service call was free with the Angie's list coupon and the final bill was just as promised. The service was great and we highly recommend them. We are very pleased with the work and the price. The guys that showed up to do the work were super courteous and very thorough and fast. We highly recommend Guin Services
Description of Work: These guys were great. We wanted to install a gas stove to replace the electric. They had to put a new gass line through some concrete, but wanted to be sure that the connection would match the same location as the stove's and asked us if they could come back once we had the stove so they'd know exactly where to place the line. We got the stove and they were back the very next day after it arrived. They also installed the stove, in addition to putting in the line. The charge for stove installation was less than half what the big box stores charged for putting one on an existing line.

Description of Work: I called Guin for an estimate and Barry came out the same day. He was very professional and gave me a good estimate and answered all my questions. When I go ready to have my generator installed, I called Barry and he got right back to me and we were able to plan a date and time that worked for me. He and another installer were on time the day of installation and did a really good job. They cleaned up everything and didn't leave a thing in the yard other than the generator. Barry told me to call him if I had more questions and I felt like he really meant it. They both were open and easy to talk to and again answered all my questions and gave very detailed instructions how to care for my generator. I feel comfortable with the comprehensive information they showed me , told me and a big book to read if I needed to.

+ -1 moreExcellent job but the price seems really high. The job took less than an hour and the part should have cost less than $100. So they are getting over $200 per hour labor on this job. I called another plumber afterwards and he said he charges $225 total for the same job. I recommend getting several quotes and not just looking for someone that is offering a coupon. Update: After reading my review Guin called and offered to calculate my charge based on an hourly rate rather than a flat rate. This amount came to $250 so I am changing my Price rating from a D to a B.

Their prices are competitive with other services we have used. (The last time we used them the line was not completely cleared on their first trip, so they returned quickly and completed the job for no extra charge. Highly recommend this honest and competent company.)
Description of Work: Our sewage line backed up on Saturday night. We were expecting a dozen people the following day, so we put in an emergency call to Guin for rooting out the line.

They are the kind of company who's employees seem like an old friend. In fact, Dewayne and I had a nice chat about some issues and opinions we had in common. Being Dewayne's final appointment for the day, gave us the opportunity to do so since we were almost neighbors. I'm sorry to say that I forgot to offer Dewayne a bottled water or something to drink. However, I did give him an extra copy of a DVD on one of the topics we discussed. So, this wraps up my report on GUIN SERVICES, (Heating, Air Conditioning, Generators, Plumbing, Sewer). Dee Russell
Description of Work: The receptionist at GUIN PLUMBING was very courteous and nice. She informed me that their company emloyed a plumber, Dewayne Todd, who lived in my area. I called on Thursday, March 15, 2012 to report that both of my toilets were not working properly. In the guest bathroom the water continued to run each time the toilet was flushed causing my water bill to increase by $10.00 or more each month. In the master bathroom, the toilet continued to run over each time it was flushed. The receptionist said she could possible have a plumber come out the next day, Friday, March 16. If not, I would be contacted to setup an appointment for Monday, March 19,2012. On Friday afternoon, one of the employee's called to inform me it would be Monday afternoon, March 19, 2012, that Dewayne would come out to do the repairs. Dewayne called me in route to my home, which is always nice to know. He was prompt and went straight to the problems to make the repairs. The job was completed on both bathrooms within 1 hour. Dewayne cleaned up following the repairs which is also very nice. In the past, I've had plumbers, painters, landscapers, etc. leave messes inside and outside my home! This does not speak highly of a company. If an employee is trained well, those kind of messes are unacceptable! Although the cost of the job was $275.00; with the coupon from Guin's Plumbing Service for $70.00, the total price was $205.00.
