The people from Shelby showed up promptly at the time promised to set the poles and made suggestions that would best fit the contour of my property, poles were set within 2 hours and fence was completed the next day by lunch. my intentions were to get a simple privacy fence but instead went for the shadow box, best decision I could have made. Great Job!

I obtained three estimates, and Shelby Fence Co. gave the best price. They were also highly recommended to me by others who had used their services. The whole process was very smooth, from estimating through completion. The fence looks great!

The design was excellent, the work quality was questionable, and the clean-up was terrible. We selected Shelby Fence due to his good design to handle the change in slope across the back of the yard and the fact that he lived in our neighborhood. We also liked the appearance of the fence design he proposed. The work quality was questionable. We have had a lot of problems with posts settling, rails popping off, gates drooping, and boards coming loose. The carpentry work was not the best quality - tops of posts were cut sloppily, posts were notched roughly, and there we lots of extra or missing nails. I know building a fence is rough carpentry, but the carpentry looks rushed. A new fence should not have a bunch of unset or loose nails. I found a lot with a quick inspection. I did have to push them to complete the job in a timely manner, but I didn't rush them (2 weeks is plenty to fence in a small yard). The thing that really upset me was the cleanup. He told me they were finished so I inspected the work. The clean up of my yard was very poor - I collected at least 2 buckets of wood scraps and nails that were left in the grass. I noticed that they had left a lot of lumber scraps behind my neighbor's fence (fence on either side of a drainage sluice on the property line). Then I noticed that they had stuffed a bunch of lumber scraps into the drainage pipe the feeds the drainage sluice. It was at least 10 board feet of scraps. I was so upset I couldn't call him to complain, I just cleaned it all up myself. I did pay him the full amount but I considered very strongly deducting an amount for having to clean up myself. I would not hire him again. I wish I had hired the other bidder who had a me-too design but seemed to have good worksmanship. I wanted to reward him for his good design, but the execution was lacking - poor work in my opinion. I have no financial interest in anything related to fence construction.
