Renewal by Andersen of Alaska

As work done last January by Renewal, this job also went very smoothly It also occurred during a cold November, but the period when the windows were totally out lasted maybe 30 minutes. The installers, Mike, Justin, and Brandon handled the removal of the very large 3 section upper window with very little problem. I was amazed at how smoothly it went and installation of the new window. They had to modify the opening a bit and knew what to do. They had to use a scaffold outside to lower the old and raise the new window. Likewise the "smaller" lower 3 section window went smoothly. After installation they took care of all the inner and outer trim, which all looks seamless from the original and matching trim. The outside siding between the two window casements showed signs of rot. They did cut and replace the narrow siding with a piece that I had, for which I was grateful. (I will need to paint when warm weather returns.) Another point of note. The staff person who came to measure the windows a week after the initial scoping visit made a suggestion on changing the construction of the large upper casement. By making it as one casement, rather than three separate windows, saved about 15% from the original cost and made installation easier. All windows fit. (Pictured below are the "before" old windows.)

The removal of the old windows and the installation of the new went very well. I was concerned about replacement in the middle of an Alaskan winter. I had to snow shovel out a patio area in front of the installation area. The removal of the old and the replacement of the new was done very quickly. The installers Rob and Mike were most courteous and left the area well cleaned. One window was a half-moon shape and the replaced trim was seamless, an excellent replacement for the original. The second was a large square above our porch. Despite the weight and/or odd shapes, Rob and Mike handled all flawlessly. One step in the Renewal process is for a staff person to visit to measure the windows. The half-moon could be a challenge. I was most pleased that the half-moon window fit perfectly. One minor issue was that some of the siding below the window had gone soft and needed to be replaced. Renewal said this was not part of their service, and I had to do this later myself in the summer. (On a later job, the Renewal staff did replace a similar piece of siding, which I had available. Because the windows are made in Minnesota and we live in Alaska, six months elapsed between the initial visit for the estimate (July) to when the windows were installed (January). But overall I was pleased with the service.

We just had 14 windows installed by Renewal by Andersen of Alaska and we had a great experience. The installation crew (Jeffery, Mike G., Mike H., Robert, Gabriel, and Justin) were made the installation experience painless. They showed up everyday friendly and professional, they answered any questions we had and went over all of the things they did during the day. i loved the way they left notes on the white board everyday and explained what they planned for the next day. The product is awesome, they make the house feel so much warmer and look great.

The installation was flawless and speedy. We would definitely use Renewal by Anderson again. Thank you.

Mike, Justin and Robert did a great job. We are very pleased with the final product. We managed to retain much of the character of the old windows, and enjoy the comfort and efficiency of modern technology.

Paul and Shawn arrived at the appointed time and began work right away. The installation process was explained to me as well. Their work was carefully performed and of excellent quality. I would certainly return for more windows when I need them. Well done Paul and Shawn!!

Mike Haire and Justin Young completed our replacement window installation. Their work was excellent. They were meticulous and thorough, as well as conscientious and courteous. Each day, they left the job-site clean and orderly, and they completed the installation on the schedule set-out by the company. We highly recommend them as a team for any replacement window installation.

There's no question that you will pay a premium price for windows from Renewal by Andersen but I believe you get a premium product both in terms of the windows themselves and the installation. This project represents a huge upgrade to our 30 year old house and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. We especially want to recognize our installation crew- Jeffrey, Michael, Shaun and Grant- for an overall outstanding job. They were to a person professional, punctual and excellent in every way. These guys could give a master-class on how to be contractors and provide excellent customer service. Thank you very much!

Not well- they would only replace the entire windows, not just glass. They are 100% more than Builders Millworks. It turned out our were under warranty (lifetime from Cascade windows). They have high pressure sales tactics for an overpriced product, and all solutions they have are fully replace

Very well. From the sales person, Matt, through the installers, Bobby, Mike and Shelton, Renewal by Andersen of Alaska was professional and knowledgeable. They were on time, took their time to do a professional job and left a clean work site.

Excellent! The crew (Paul, Rob, Justin, and Shelton) were prompt, efficient, courteous, and tidy. The new windows had been measured and cut accurately prior to delivery. They also checked seals and re-caulked the other windows that had been installed by Andersen a couple of years ago. The only downside is the price. Given the quality of the materials, the finish carpentry, and Andersen's ongoing customer service, it is a worthwhile investment.

Very well. Grant and Dillon completed the project on 6/28. They were timely, professional, helpful, very competent, thorough and tidy. They went out of their way to insure that I was satisfied with the work. They went above and beyond to do things right. My experience with Renewal by Andersen Alaska was very positive, and I would highly recommend them to my friends.

The whole process went very smoothly without any problems. Bob, Mike H., and Shelton were punctual, polite and we were impressed with how well they worked together as well as their safe work practices. Quality workmanship started with demolition and continued through the finish carpentry. Crew was very careful of our rugs, furniture and new Trex deck which they used as a work platform to install the patio door. We enjoyed getting to know all of them and would request the same crew if we were to do a phase 2.

The installers, Jeffrey and Mike G. did a wonderful job from start to finish. They are expert installers! We were very pleased!

Bob, Mike, and Sheldon were wonderful to work with. They answered all of our questions. They were professional in that they arrived on time and cleaned throughly each day before leaving. While they were at our house, they worked continuously. Also, we were impressed how respectful they were of each other. We enjoyed having them on the job and would highly recommend them.

Workers were punctual, courteous, considerate of our home and its furnishings. Finished the job on time and went beyond what was required. Left no mess at all. We will have them do work for us again in the future. The windows are expensive, but well worth it!

This review is on the installers (Paul M. and Mike D.) ONLY. I have nothing to say about the company because not satisfied with product (over priced and not what I wanted). As far as the installers go, they were on time, very professional and knowledgeable. No wasted time or effort. They went above and beyond. If I was to ever use this company again, which I will not, I would want Paul M. and Mike D. to do the work. The RATINGS above, are for the installers ONLY.

Overall my experience was excellent!! Amanda came out to my house to address my needs going over all the available options. She answered all my questions & she even brought in samples of all the products used so I could understand the quality of the components used. I've always believed that "you get what you pay for". Being on a fixed income I was concerned about the cost. After Amanda's presentation & her ability to find a payment plan that worked for me, I felt more comfortable w/my decision to continue. The products speak for themselves. I then had the pleasure of meeting the 3 man crew sent out to do the work: Bob, Mike & Shelton. It took 2 days to complete the job. I really appreciated the fact that they took the time to cover my floor & deck to prevent any damage. They also used a shop vac to remove any debris & picked up after themselves. Like Amanda, they answered any questions I had. Bob then showed me the different ways to operate/secure the slider & screen. Overall I was very impressed w/the company & would highly recommend their services.

Paul, Spencer and Mike comprised the crew that removed our old picture window and a double front door in our home. The job was completed in one and a half days. The replacement picture window had to be put together in our driveway as it was so big. The crew was outstanding, professional, and meticulous. The door and trim needed to be replaced and Paul and Spencer worked very hard to get it out and the new one in. Mike did exceptional trim work and the seams mated up perfectly. They worked well together and were careful to keep dust down to a minimum and protect our furnishings. We recommend Renewal By Andersen and Paul, Spencer, and Mike without reservation. Randy and Ida

I should preface this by saying that I am a tough grader. I rarely will give out 5 stars. So let me break this down a bit from my project (15 windows). Things that were 5 Stars: 1) "We want you to be completely happy." Every person I spoke to from Renewal By Andersen of Alaska (RBAA) used this phrase, and worked hard to make it so. There were some issues that came up during the installation and our install team made it right with support from their supervisor. The solutions lead to additional time and material cost, but that was not a consideration in making sure that I was satisfied. 2) The installation crew of Paul, Spencer and Mike G. Very nice, skilled and professional. Our daughter was home from school sick the week of our installation and they very thoughtful and concerned about making sure to minimize the disruption. They asked how she was doing each day and were fun to be around. They did a great job of protecting carpet and furnishings and cleaned up very well every night. Thanks guys! 3) Quality of the windows and trim material. We went with clear stain grade maple trim and the windows look outstanding. They really brighten up the house from our old dark brown wood windows and trim. They operate smoothly and are a huge upgrade. These are premium windows. Things that were 4 stars 1) One of the windows wasn't the correct size. These things happen and I am happy that our install crew realized it before they ripped out the old one. It is a small window by the front door so it isn't that big of a deal. One window pane will be replaced due to a small flaw in the glass. Finally, one window track had a very small chip. They reordered the window and it too will be replaced. Happy that this is being done without any drama. 2) Fit and finish of the trim. I wasn't happy with the first attempt and a fair bit of trim was ripped out and replaced. I wish that we didn't have to go through that but I am very pleased with the final product. It seems like more of the trim should be shop built (preferably with biscuits used for the major frame joints) rather that having the install guys do this out in the cold and snow in the driveway. Things that were 3 stars 1) Price. These are premium windows and you pay a premium price. So I rate this as fair (it was a fair price). Hard to make it any higher than that, but you get what you pay for. 2) Quotation. This is not meant as a criticism of Amanda, who did a 5 star job of laying out options and describing the product, but rather the process that she operates under. We saved a considerable amount by signing a contract the same day as her visit. For a $50K job, we would have preferred a night to sleep on it before deciding. There are also too many "sales" and promotions in my opinion. As the customer, one is left wondering whether we got a good deal or not. It makes it hard to shop around and compare our options. I know that some of this is forced on you by the national office, but I would prefer a bit less in terms of sales gimmicks and "incentives". You guys are selling a premium product in a way that made me feel a bit pressured (even though Amanda wasn't the one doing that). I spent a couple of months before the windows arrived wondering whether I made a sound business decision. I think I did.

Weather Conditions: 7-10 inches of snow with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Anchorage. Renewal By Anderson crews were on time, despite the challenging snowfall! Paul, Spencer and Mike set up their canopy, shoveled snow on their own and went about the task of installation. They were finished by early afternoon and all was smooth. The new windows make the room loos more open and light too. Our tenant is very happy to have them. We like that it looks like the new windows just appeared..that is how flawless the job was. The installers were friendly and professional. Thank you.
