I thought the price was a little high at first but we only have one bathroom and I needed it fixed right away so the price was worth it to me. I had had a $4,660 estimate from Roto Rooter to excavate my yard to diagnose the damage roots had done to our outdoor sewer line. Roto Rooter said the actual repairs would be in addition to that $4,660. I don't have that kind of budget, so I called CPR Drain Cleaning on the recommendation of my neighbor. They came out early the next morning with their camera and auger. With great skill and experience, Olivier and Shane worked cheerfully and patiently for a couple hours and completely cleared our outside drain to the city sewer lines. THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS ON TIME. HOWEVER, AFTER ONLY 4 MONTHS THE DRAIN CLOGGED AGAIN AND FLOODED THE LAUNDRY ROOM. I WOULD NOT USE THEM AGAIN SINCE THE PRICE WAS EXCESSIVE COMPARED TO OTHER DRAIN CLEANING COMPANIES. They were awesome! They were prompt, polite, and extremely knowledgeable. They took care of the issue that Roto-Rooter had failed to fix multiple times. Roto-Rooter said we needed to put in an exterior clean-out in order to clean the main line with a 6" blade. These guys found a clean-out right near the edge of the house that they were able to get a 6" blade in. Roto-Rooter has been to our house 4+ times in 3 years and never looked around to see if there was another option. Drain Busters also offered knowledgeable suggestions about how we could re-route our washing machine's plumbing into another area, to help alleviate future issues (basically connecting into bigger pipes sooner). They would not quote a price over the phone. When the drain technician arrived, he then told my son that the service call would be $209.00. He had the drain uclogged in less than 30 minutes. Initially, I spoke with Richard Hanson, the field training manager, I found him to be very rude. When I asked for his name and title, he asked if I wanted his social security number as well. I spoke to the general manager, Ron Degner, about the high price for such a limited amount of work and asked why they did not tell us this on the phone. If we had known this we never would have called them. When I mentioned making a report about this on Angie's List he offered me a 20% discount not to do so. We have had a problem with the drain in the laundry room backing up; when the roto rooter service person arrived this time (2nd time we have called them) he seemed annoyed just coming in the door. He told us that we had cracked pipes that would require digging up our drive way and our front steps for a total job of over $24,000. He refused to give us the dvd or pictures of the cracks he saw. We called others for estimates (which required that we pay them $300 to run the camera since RR wouldn't provide us with those) and diagnosis and learned that there are a few roots in the pipes and a sleeve that is loose but nothing that requires the $24,000 job that the Roto Rooter guy insisted we needed (and they provided us with the pictures from the camera). I was very appreciative of the prompt service from Roto-Rooter. I had had difficulty with several other plumbing companies, both with having them come to assess our situation, as well as improperly diagnosing the cause. Roto-Rooter was able to send someone to my home the next day (they offered same day but that didn't work with my schedule). Within 5 minutes of seeing the problem, the initial technician knew what was wrong. Another representative came to our home within 2 hours and scheduled to have the work done the next day. ON 8/06/06, ROTO-ROOTER CAME TO MY HOUSE FOR A SERVICE CALL TO UNCLOG A PERIMETER DRAIN AROUND MY HOME. I HAD STANDING WATER IN MY FINISHED BASEMENT. THE SERVICE TECH PUT FORTH LITTLE EFFORT AND FAILED TO UNCLOG MY DRAIN. I SUGGESTED HE RUN THE SNAKE FROM THE CREEK END TOWARDS THE HOUSE, BUT HE SAID I SHOULD HAVE ROTO-ROOTER RUN A CAMERA THROUGH THE DRAIN TO DETERMINE WHERE THE CLOG WAS. SHORTLY AFTER HE DEPARTED, I NOTICED HE HAD DAMAGED THE CUSTOM OAK STEPS IN MY HOME BY DRAGGING HIS EQUIPMENT OVER THE BARE WOOD. FURTHER, WITHIN 2 HRS OF HIS DEPARTURE, ROTO-ROOTER CALLED ME TO "UPSELL" THEIR SERVICES, $282 MORE TO RUN A CAMERA THROUGH MY DRAIN PLUS THE COST TO UNCLOG IT. MEANWHILE, I HAD STANDING WATER IN MY BASEMENT THAT ULTIMATED RUINED MY CARPET AND MANY OF OUR BELONGINGS. THE NEXT MORNING I HAD A SECOND PLUMBING COMPANY COME TO MY HOME. The leaking water tank had damaged phone lines for people in the building and we needed the service done quickly. Roto-rooter quoted us $1400 for the service. They said the tank was $800 and the rest was for the service charge. I asked for a fax to be sent to me with that quote, at which point they tried to pressure me into having the work done quickly without checking anywhere else. Fortunately, I did check. Roto-rooter's service was spectacular. They responded quickly, performed a professional inspection and gave me the results I needed! Their service was a big relief. As I've used many trades for home improvements and maintenance, I've had the MOST difficulty with plumbers and their schedules. Our home has all of the gutters tied into underground drain lines. The gutters drained but were very challenged when it rained heavily. I contacted several gutter companies and was put on their waiting list for three weeks. That was unacceptable. I called Roto-rooter and they came IMMEDIATELY. I was given a two hour window; not your usual I will be there sometime that day schedule. The technician was very knowledgeable. I had my own thoughts on the problem but he made his own analysis. He walked the property, said the gutter did not drain to the street curb and then started to unclog the drain lines. We heard an immediate "swoosh" of debris being unclogged from one of the underground lines. It ends up the gutters all drained to a large pipe that fed into a nearby sewer. He removed the sewer cover and showed me. After unclogging the drains, he ran hoses into the gutters and filled them with water.
