After checking out several companies, we decided to hire Kenny and his crew to replace our old wooden deck and above ground pool with a new paver patio. Not only was his price very competitive, but Kenny's design background and friendliness won us over. Kenny was great--he took us to see some projects they had completed, was very responsive to my many questions, completed the job quickly, and, when we encountered a few issues after installation, he worked with us to get them resolved as quickly as possible and to our liking. Mark Rodgers Construction
I was renovating an old pool and needed to have new coping put around the top of the pool. This raised the top of the pool 3" which necessitated tearing out the patio, decking and sidewalk to the patio and having it repoured so that all was 3" higher to match the new top of the pool. Mark arrived on time to give an estimate and was very knowledgable about concrete in general and pouring concrete around a pool. I wanted stamped colored concrete and Mark was able to explailn to me why that would not be a good idea around a pool. So we went with a brushed finished concrete and I'm very glad we did as it looks great. The company that was renovating the pool broke up the old concrete, brought in the gravel and created the forms for pouring, but Mark checked all of their work to make sure it met his specifications before he brought any concrete on sight. Because of rain delays with the pool company's work we had to push Mark's work back twice, but when we were finally ready Mark was able to schedule us within 8 days; he poured and finished the concrete on Day 1 and it was a great deal of concrete given that the patio is about 20 feet and the pool is 36 feet long. The next day he returned and made the cuts in the concrete and cleaned everything up. The concrete is beautiful and has no cracks which I was very worried about. He also did the cuts in a very simple but nice pattern and had me present so I could agree with the design. He did an amazing job cleaning up including hosing off all of the patio furniture, grill cover, fencing, landscaping that was coated with concrete dust from the cuts that had to be made. He even raked up the debris from the removal of the forms and hauled all of that away. I was very impressed with Mark's work and would highly recommend him for concrete work

Outdoor Space Design
After my husband and I decided that we needed a long term vision for our landscaping and outdoor spaces, I did a bit of research into landscape companies in our area. I found Will at Outdoor Space Design using a google image search. His work and style is refreshing and modern which was just right for our personal style and taste. He quickly responded after reaching out to him about or project. He understood that while we were looking for a long term vision- we needed it to be something we could start working on ourselves immediately as well as hiring contractors to get it done over the next couple of years. After the initial, comprehensive consultation, he provided us with a quote (which we accepted) and then crafted two concepts for our second meeting. After our second meeting, we landed on a solid plan that we could both use ourselves and share with the contractors that we would hire to do the work. Although our work with Will was recent, the plan has been invaluable already. Here are a few of the things we most appreciated about working with Will: 1. He knows his stuff. He is knowledgeable about everything outdoor, from structures, to plants, to drainage etc. 2. He did "undo" any of the work we had already done. He incorporated everything, making it all beautiful and cohesive in ways we never would have thought of. 3. He thinks big, but also about what is feasible/manageable. He took into consideration our budget and what we can do in phases. 4. His drawings are clear, easy to reference and he walks you through everything to make sure you understand it all. 5. He appreciates quality materials and craftsmanship and let us know where we should and should not compromise. 6. He is timely with communication and delivery. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed working with Will and have and will continue to recommend him to our friends and family. We plan to keep him involved as our outdoor spaces develop. He has become a trusted advisor for our home

The project went very well, each step of the way the builder would confirm with me what I wanted and make sure to ask my approval once completed. This was a very unique project with many unknown design elements that we created along the way. I am so pleased with the craftsmanship of the work. We have used Dave before and think he is one of the best craftsmen we have dealt with. He has done numerous jobs for us over the past two years. This time we needed a 6 foot by 8 foot deck installed with two steps down to the patio from a new french door where had installed where before there had been a window. Dave came by the same day I called him and I described to him exactly what I wanted as I wanted the deck to flow with the existing patio and pool. I did not want a square or rectangular deck. The deck also had to incorporate a lattice work fence to hide existing pool equipment which sits next to the proposed deck. Dave took lots of notes and came back a week later with a drawing and plans for the deck and fencing. I did not want the deck to be made of wood, but rather of material that never needs painting or power washing. He suggested Timbertech and so we went and looked at this material and the colors, etc. We agreed with Dave that although expensive this was the material we wanted to use. We scheduled the work and Dave ordered the materials. Dave arrived on time on the appointed day with his helper and they got right to work. When they dug down to set the posts for the deck there were quite a few problems with old pool lines, old inactive gas lines, electrical conduit to outside lights, etc. Dave managed to work around all of the obstacles and get the concrete for the posts poured. In the next three days he built the deck. It turned out beautifully. It is the perfect shape, size and color for the space. We are very happy with the results. Dave also added trim to the bottom of our white kitchen cabinets and molding to the tops of our kitchen cabinets. They also turned out great. I would highly recommend Dave. He is organized, on time, excellent with billing, and is able to communicate well with the customer

Rangels Patio and Concrete
Manuel and his crews did an amazing job transforming our back yard into a beautiful living space! Pictures below, but this was basically a 12x24 old wooden deck before they started. We couldn't be happier with our new covered patio and paver work around the pool. It took longer than expected to complete but they were very detail oriented and all inspections passed flawlessly. I had originally contracted with Cap City Decks/Patios for this job and am so happy I got out of that as they are the absolute worst company I have ever experienced. I am so glad I found Rangels for this project and highly recommend their work and professionalism

The deck is wonderful to look at and Derrick did a wonderful job. We had vapor lites added to the top and a real nice railing that matches our fence around the pool. We ordered windows for the back of the house since we were so pleased with the work done last year. This time it took longer to get them delivered from Polaris. When they did get put in I noticed that they were measured 1/4 inch shorter on each side and didn't have the tight fit they did last time. Too much caulk this time showed. They then put a quarter inch trim around the window area to hide the caulk and decorated the window area. We are happy with the windows, just wish they would have not showed so much caulk this time. Hoping we don't hear any whistling during heavy winds. Other than it taking longer than expected and so much caulk showing I am pleased with the work of Ohio Exteriors and still have to give them an A as they are honest and the owner is a good man

Midwest Masonry
I called about five different contractors and Midwest Masonry was, by far, the most professional, courteous, flexible, and effective contractor I have ever hired for work on my house. They gave me an excellent price and no hassles and the work area was CLEANER when they left than it was when they arrived. Simply amazing. Max called me back and we set a time for the quote. He arrived spot-on time, not like some contractors who say they will be there at 9 and show up at 11. Did some measurements, told him what I was looking for out of the repair and how we planned on using the area. He even made some suggestions on how I could use river rock to cover the area under the deck once the concrete was done to make it look real sharp. After I got the rest of the estimates, I decided to go with Max. Some of the other estimates were close in price but none beat his professionalism (on time, e-mails professional looking quotes, etc). I e-mailed him back and told him we wanted to award him the job. He called me the next day and we discussed a rough time. Then a small window opened up a little earlier than expected and he called me on a Wednesday to see if we wanted it done on a Thursday or Friday of the same week. The crew arrived, set everything up, and began work right on time and they were even done ahead of time. The concrete looks great. They gave it a smooth edge which looks fantastic. I am happier than a clam and all of my masonry work will now go to Midwest Masonry. I only wish they did other work, like paint, car repair, pet immunizations, and so on ;-

Custom Deck & Porch
I contacted Tony in February, 2015 as I was gathering estimates for patios and decks. My design options were somewhat limited due to having a pool on one side, a driveway on the other and then the garage set back facing the house. Tony promptly came out, and came up with a design I had not thought of, nor had any of the others who had come out to provide an estimate. He gave me the estimate that day and after thinking it over I decided to proceed with him and he promised to build me a beautiful deck. My plan was to have the deck completed prior to my pool opening in May. What Tony & I didn't count on was encountering a zoning issue whereby 20 feet is required to ensure maneuverability out of the garage. With the expansion of my deck by 3ft, this became an issue for a small portion of the garage door. Though I was upset, frustrated and tempted to go back to the original deck size, I decided to pursue the variance since I wanted what I wanted! It's no small feat, and takes time gathering all of the artifacts for the BZA application submission, reviewing it with a City employee and getting on the BZA agenda to appear before the committee which has specific timelines based on application submission cutoffs. That ended up taking two and a half additional months and Tony was very responsive in providing me with anything I needed along the way. He had never had a client go through the variance process, so we both learned a lot. I kept in touch with him regularly to update him on progress and he always either answered my calls or called me right back. He was extremely professional throughout. I told him to be ready to go as soon as I got the variance, and he ensured his schedule could accommodate me - he started on the deck about 2 weeks after I got my approval. As a first time homeowner, and by nature pretty curious, I had loads of questions for him along the way. He was very patient (mostly - haha) and kept assuring me he would build me a beautiful deck. I avidly watched the daily progress and could see it was being solidly built with quality materials. I also threw in a personal change control and decided I wanted decorative balusters rather than the standard wood ones. He worked with me to figure out how many I should purchase and he also ensured the gate had a latch in accordance with pool regulations. Again, because I wanted what I wanted (poor Tony, yes I'm a bit of a perfectionist as well), I also had him mount my new copper planters on the deck. Everything was finished in about a week - Tony arrived early every day and put in a solid days work. He had one person help w/the demo and one other day, but otherwise is a one-man show. I LOVE MY DECK!!! He did build me a beautiful deck - I've gotten compliments from everyone and it's totally opened up my backyard due to the design he came up with - super pleased I went with Tony and would recommend him to anyone

Deck Masters
Our experience with Deck Masters exceeded our expectations in every respect from the beginning to the very end of our project. This included our initial contact with Mike Fresch, who was able to produce an accurate sketch of the porch we wanted during our first appointment. His plan was sufficiently detailed that it was submitted to and approved by the city (Upper Arlington) as proposed. During this meeting, Mike also came up with a unique solution to a potential drainage problem that we had anticipated with the joining of 3 roof lines during the creation of the porch. His estimate of our total coat was accurate, and he was forthcoming about the additional costs that were dependent on our selections from a range of possibilities (i.e. the French doors, patio paver's, dog door, ceiling fan). Each of Deck Masters' subcontractors were professional in their work and we were satisfied with the quality of what they did. Our job began with a concrete patio tear out, which posed several unexpected and significant problems, each of which was overcome without delay by Cole's Concrete and the expertise of Erik and his crew, and with the full support of John Stark, the owner of Deck Masters. We were relieved that the concrete crew took particular care not to damage the patio fencing, which was in very close proximity to the pour, during their work. This crew was very hardworking, punctual, friendly and willing to educate us. They even cleaned up at the end of each day of work. If we need future concrete work, this is the company we hope to hire. The Deck Masters Crew: Every workman was skilled and experienced, and it showed in the quality of their work. Attentive to detail, hardworking, eager to go the extra mile, and took pride in their work. They were punctual, considerate of our neighbors, kept us informed at all times, and were a friendly cohesive group. This was also a crew that cleaned up daily. During our project we needed to select the French doors and a 3-panel sliding glass door, and did so from a terrific company we were referred to by Deck Masters: Atria Building Products in Johnstown, Ohio. Unfortunately they have gone out of business (note added in 2015)
