Northwest Appliance responded promptly and worked hard to have it fixed prior to Thanksgiving. They had to order the part from Kitchenaid, but still managed to get it fixed in time. The price was very high, but I think that is because of the part. The part was (of course) the most expensive part to go bad. They were prompt, courteous, and neat, and I did have them back the next month when my 5 1/2 yr old Kitchenaid gas stove stopped working! I had called another service first and they estimated almost $700 for the repair and diagnosed a different problem. Service technician was amazing. In order to make sure that I was not spending more than i needed he tried replacing the less expensive compenents of the control pannel. Unfortunately we ended up having to replace the entire control pannel - thus the high price of the repair. Not their issue just the cost of the parts. I called them the Monday after Christmas regarding an oven that was not heating efficiently. They offered to come out on Tuesday. I scheduled for Wednesday. Joe was on time, courteous, knowledgeable and quickly diagnosed the problem with the oven. He fully described the problem for us and the work that would need to be done. He ordered the oven part by phone and scheduled the repair for the following afternoon. We also asked him to look at the ice maker and he quickly diagnosed the problem as a clogged valve. Andrew secured a loose wire in the panel area and the controls began to work and are still working. He said he had encountered the problem before in the KitchenAid brand but if the panel acted up again he would do some research and contact his network of fellow appliance servicemen to get to the bottom of the problem. While he was here I asked about dishwasher soap that didn't leave such a build up of residue in the washer and he talked about cleaner additives and regulations and what works and what doesn't. Dryer quit working on New Years Eve.....it would not tumble the clothes. Called a company we had before and no one answered the phone so we checked out Angies List and found A-1 Appliance and they not only answered the phone but came out the same day a couple of hours after our call. The belt needed to be replaced and he had that with him and replaced. Also, cleaned out vent and told us to clean the vent screen with dish soap because some of the vent holes were clogged. A hard plastic knife handle fell and melted on the heating element in our Kitchenaid. The dishwasher basically has to be almost taken apart to replace the element. The technician did not instill a great deal of confidence that he knew this model and how to change the element; however, he was able to get the plastic off. The cost was around $100. GREAT! We had some prior contact with him when we had some trouble with a Bosh dishwasher--an issue he resolved over the phone at NO charge!
