They were extremely rude (the old guy), acted like it was MY fault because their scheduler did not relay the correct info about the job and the guys sent couldn't estimate masonry work, never followed through and actually gave me a quote, never heard from them again. Spoke to the guy by phone. He said it would be 2 weeks before he could get out to estimate. After more conversation he said that I seemed to have more then enough knowledge of what needed done that he could give me an approximate estimate without coming out. He asked that I send him some pictures then he would email me an estimate. About 15 minutes later I sent him approximately 10 or 12 detailed pictures. I waited a week and never heard from him so I text him again and asked where we stood with my estimate. Once again, absolutely no response. It's now been a few weeks and still haven't heard anything. It's sad that companies have so much business that they don't even want your business or at least tell you their not interested. This was a $6,000 - $7,000 job, so it's not like it wasn't worth it. They called, verified the time, showed up on time, were very courteous, professional fast and charged me exactly what they said in their quote. Couldn't have been more impressed, the owner is very personable and does a wonderful job of explaining everything as little or as much as you like. I also liked the fact he gave me a tip about how to make my fireplace look a little better by painting it black with high heat paint. This is a really nice tip and shows that he cares about going beyond just the scope of his duties. He really just seems like a nice guy. Initially Danielle and Andy came over to give us ideas of how they could remodel our existing fireplace to update the look and to accomodate a flat screen TV over the mantel. They advised us to check different stone places to look at samples. These included Columbus Builders Supply and Lang stone. We ultimately decided on real stone and went with Lang Stone. We also needed to remove the existing wood mantel and lower the mantel which we replaced with a rough cut limestone and also put this on the hearth. Danielle, Andy and Ed arrived on time on the day they started and did a magnificent job on our fireplace. Everything was cleaned up and we love our new look. We had also bought a new fireplace door from Lowe's that Danielle and Ed installed. This process took about 2 months from our initial inquiries to checking out the samples through the job completion. Danielle and Andy were always available by phone or in person for all questions and help with design. I would highly recommend GBR Masonry and would definitely use them againshow more

I called Jody Plant and they sent their son over to estimate what it would cost to rebuild the fireplace. They promptly provide me with an estimate which was similar to all the other estimates that I got. I sent them a e-Mail asking if there was any way they could lower the price and they told me they would reduce the price by $500.00 if they could work on a day that they could not work outside and if they could use bricks that they already had. I agreed and we set up the job on the Friday after Thanksgiving. That day worked out perfectly for Mr. Plant and myself. They arrived exactly on time to do the work and they had the complete job accomplished in 4 hours. They showed me flaws in the work that the original contractors did when they built the mantel. They did a great job and they cleaned everything up once they were finished. We definately would use this provider againshow more

We did research some companies on that and we did consummate the deal with Mark Troyer Remodeling. I have worked with Mark two other times and he is excellent to work with. He has one quality that I like and that is he is very honest. It's a quality that is hard to find. Log homes are very difficult to work with. It requires a lot of strength because those logs are heavy. You don't build them like you do a stick home. It takes people with certain talents and experience to work on them and to build them. When the log home was built, the 2 X 10s were under the base of the 4 sets of doors on the back of the log home. It's a fairly large house. It is about 2400 square feet. It's not a log cabin. It's a log home. The 2 X 12s had rotted because they hadn't been treated before they were put on. My son built a very large deck on the back of the house. It extends out from all the doors plus out over a drop off in the land. It's very well built. The wood underneath the doors which was underneath the deck rotted the 2 X 12s and they had to be taken out. Part of the deck had to be cut away and they had to crawl down in a dirty old area and cut the 2 X 12s which is standard on the deck. They had to rebuild everything and put the 2 X 12s in doubling them to build a solid foundation there. It was a dirty job and the weather was hotter than hell. I kept them engaged all the time. I felt sorry for those guys. The job they did before turned out to be a phenomenal job. It was about a $30,000.00 job. We had some mold in the roof over the great room. We had to tear the roof off, put the breathing space in, and put Clorox to kill the mold. The guy carried the stone and the cement and his wife laid the stone on a two story large fireplace. He probably weighed 240 pounds. He wasn't fat, but he carried that stuff from the back of the place which is equivalent to a three story house out to the deck. He was so heavy with the stone that he pulled the braces on the deck right out. The weight was a lot but he went up and down the stairs so many times. Now we have got a beautiful fireplace. Their price was fair, but it wasn't what I wanted to pay. I don't think he gouged us at all. He is an acquaintance that has turned into a friend. He is not a close friend. If I need a question answered, he is the person I could call. He is a little expensive, but he is honest about his expenses. He goes over them all with you and explains to you why. He takes a great amount of time and then he tells you what percentage he is working on in relation to his profit. I had no problems with anything at all. The only thing is I had to get up at 5 o'clock in the morning to meet them in the log home every morning. We were meeting at 6 o'clock or 7 o'clock in the morning. They got started earlyshow more

This company has a very strong focus on customer service. You can tell it is in the culture of the organization to take care of their customers, no matter how long it takes. We decided to tear down the large stone facing in our family room, and replace it with a gas insert, built in bookshelves, a small hearth and mantle. I contacted H-P and they sent out a technician to measure our fireplace to see whether they had what we needed. The person was prompt and called ahead to confirm. He suggested we visit their showroom which we did. It is impressive and offered lot of options for our project. The person we asked for to help us was not available, but we had two other people come out to get us started, as they knew our Sales Rep was on another call. We found what we wanted, and placed it on order. One of my few disappointments was that they did not have ready recommendations for someone to put in the required electric box or the gas line installation. Fortunately, I had Angie's List to look for them! The insert was ordered, and we scheduled installation. It went in beautifully, and they took care of the chimney venting as well. They started it up, and we noticed that the fan was making a loud noise. They said they had another installation where that happened, and would order a replacement fan. They called when it came in, and did the replacement. It didn't fix the problem. So they came back and put in some screws to secure the frame, as they thought that might be rattling. Each time the technicians and service managers reassured us that they would make it right or replace it. At this point we though it was fixed, and proceeded to build up the hearth, and get the stone to put around it. The showroom has so many choices for stone and ceramic finishing. They are very good at giving you samples to take home, and we made many visits until we found the right one. It had to be special ordered, and we were anxious to get the project wrapped up. The delivery truck was delayed by a day, but it was available in time for our contractor to get it installed on schedule. When everything was finished, we turned on the fireplace, started the fan, and it made a very loud noise. At this point, I was very concerned about having technicians pull out the insert, with the marble stone already on the hearth, and the stone facing right up against the sides of the insert. But I must say, they took great care in moving the insert around, diagnosed the problem, and fixed it on the spot. We are most impressed by the professionalism of the technicians, the customer focus of the management, and the quality of their showroom and marketing team. I contacted J.S. Brown through their website. Jeff Brown, the owner contacted me within a day or two to set up an appointment. He arrived as scheduled to discuss the project. He gave me a ballpark figure at that time as to the cost. I have to admit I thought it was high but I decided to hire them to do the drawings to see what they would come up with. About a month later I went to their office to review the new design. After discussing some options they came up with a design I loved. The selection process of cabinets, counters, tile, etc. was very streamlined and uncomplicated. Stefanie helped me make my selections, I felt confident that working with her the results would be beautiful. The building process started around five months after my first contact with J.S. Brown. The construction crew couldn't have been more professional, the quality of work is very impressive no shortcuts here, pure craftsmanship. Chris, the project supervisor kept on top of every detail. They send you a schedule of what is going to be done on your project week by week. For the most part they stick to the schedule, my project had delays due to the local inspectors not showing up as scheduled, but J.S. Brown did their best to work around these delays and still progress with the work. The finished project is absolutely beautiful, I couldn't be more pleased. After I saw how much work was involved with this remodel the price seemed to be reasonable and I am so happy that I had J.S. Brown do the jobshow more

Utmost did a great job in getting my house back into shape! My home is ~27 years old and was at the point in time when repairs were needed. Chimney was failing (spalling of bricks, failing chimney shoulders and mortar), Cedar siding rot, and a couple of deck boards needing replaced. When looking for a company to complete my repairs, I always base my choice on a combination of price, quality and customer service. After getting 3 estimates from 3 highly rated companies, I chose Utmost due to fact they had the ability and skills to complete all the projects versus just the fireplace repair. Mark was timely in coming out for initial review, provided more than one solution to repairs with pro's and con's to each, and provided a written estimate in timely manner. The teams started and completed all work in committed timeframes even with additional work being required for back deck due to identifying additional rotted planking. We had the work complete about 1 week before Christmas and were so impressed with how clean Phil and his partner were. He took several notes and asked several questions about what we wanted. We had a quote on work to be done quickly after. Vlad explained that with older homes there are sometimes issues that he can't see- so just be aware. We contacted GBR to get a bid on a job of refacing our family room fireplace. An appointment was set up for Friday May 6, 2016. Danielle called shortly after this date was set needing to reschedule for the following day ( May 7th) because of a"sudden" conflict appointment. They arrived as planned and were knowable about masonry work and fireplace design. They also gave us a lead on another stone supplier with other stacked stone options. We were anxious to get their bid to compare with others so we could move the remodel process along. We called continually for the last four weeks asking for a bid on the job. We have yet to receive any communication from them. I even asked as a curtesy for them to just leave a message and let us know if this was not a job they are interested in taking. Still no response! I hope all is well with them, but this is not how a new potential client should ever be treatedshow more

The Aspen employees were total professionals! Knowledgeable, efficient, showed up when the said they would, professional and respectful of me and my property - all the qualities you want in a company. I have subtracted points for the work of the subcontractor (hired by Aspen). The remodel work got off to a slow start since the subcontractor didn't show up twice when he said he would but he got it to a point where Aspen could come in and get their part done. The special order $$$ hearth I ordered was a regrettable decision on my part. But it didn't help that somewhere along the line the edges of hearth got chipped. While I didn't notice any damage to the hearth while it was sitting in my garage, I asked why there were chips to the hearth stone edge and the subcontractor told me that both the top and bottom edges were chipped. Maybe we could have discussed this before installation but he decided to install the chipped side facing out into the living room, although he did sand them to make the chips less noticeable. There is a 1/2" gap around the hearth since he chose to leave the existing baseboard and quarter round in place which means the hearth isn't flush against the wall. The fieldstone tile, mantle and remaining work were all completed with no issues. The fireplace is all done now, it looks wonderful (see picture) and a remote controlled fireplace is geniusshow more

We had some scheduling conflicts due to our plans for the Memorial holidays but, Mid Ohio Hearth was very accommodating. In about three weeks after we agreed to the proposal, the project was underway. The plumbers had a challenge in relocating the gas regulator and service line. The job required digging a rather deep hole. Once the initial plumbing was completed, the structural work began. The two gentlemen who performed the work (Larry and Bob) were very knowledgeable and professional. They built a solid structure that conforms to the rest of the house. They did great work!
