Dan Few was extremely responsive. He came out and gave an estimate to replace the asphalt drive, tear out concrete steps and replace concrete steps. Dan's bid was not the lowest, but we felt most comfortable with him. He came out in April and we did not have the work completed until July due to some delays on our end. He stayed in touch and was very patient with us. The job was completed in a professional manner and the work was outstanding. The brother of the neighbor (lives in Pittsburgh) has been in the concrete business for 37 years. He said, "whoever did this work did an outstanding job -- it will be here for thousands of years". Dan will return in two months to power wash and seal the drive -- no other estimates we received included this. Dan also cleared and prepared an area for patio pavers -- at no additional cost! I contacted Chris Ruh and he was very helpful in honestly assessing the situation as well as helping me decide if it was best to try to repair the initial contractor's shoddy work or to start over. Kevin really helped me in a pinch. We were getting ready to put our house on the market when our agent bumped up our open house by one week. The winter had taken a toll on our front steps and they were falling apart. I called Kevin on Monday afternoon and he was able to estimate the work by Wednesday afternoon and then perform the work on Friday - all in time for the open house. He had the best people on the job to complete my backyard patio Even though the work was small with a 2 weeks duration, he had the best people (about 20+ years of experience people) with complete dedication and ownership on the site. C R did some concrete work on our house before we purchased it. We ran into their crew working on a neighbor's house and jokingly complained about a crumbling step in our concrete porch stairs - the kids played on the railing embedded in the concrete until it broke off the corner of the step. Carlos said he didn't pour these steps (and they are obviously much older than the new patio that he did do) but offered to remove and re-pour the bottom step for $100 since his crew was already on the street for another job. We were looking to replace our asphalt driveway and also get a set of stone steps that were deteriorating repaired. We were able to do both with King Concrete as opposed to using two separate contractors. They explained the process (they required a visit with as opposed to other contractors who just stopped by when we were gone and provided their estimates) and were able to address not only the driveway issue but the steps as well. Their quote for the driveway was in the ballpark with the others, maybe slightly higher but they were the only ones that could do the steps as well. They were always very responsive to our questions and coordinated their effort with a related contractor working on steps connecting the upper and lower stone steps. A couple of issues surfaced do to modifications of those non concrete steps necessitating a couple of changes to the concrete work and these were nicely addressed by King Concrete. The steps themselves are beautiful. The color and pattern is perfect. They had a wide selection and highly suggested you visit their outside showroom to see real examples of the material and colors to make our choices and not rely on colors in a book - an excellent idea. Anyone who sees our driveway from the street thinks it looks good but that is far from the case. They damaged beyond repair aluminum trim next to the garage when putting in the forms. This could have been avoided but they were shoddy workers. It was in their way so they just folded it back and shoved the forms in place. Now I'm left with an impossible fix. There is a hump in one side of the driveway so it is not flat. It doesn't seem to affect the water draining off of it but I expected and paid for a flat driveway. Rolling a ball down it reveals the bump as it heavily veers north. If you get down low and look at it from the right angle you can clearly see it. It's poor craftsmanship. If you bounce a basketball on one end of the parking apron, unlike the rest of the driveway, it sounds completely hollow underneath. There's nothing solid about it. One of these days I'm expecting a car to drive over that edge and for it to crack right off. When they came to backfill the edges with dirt I specifically told them that I wanted it filled and tamped all the way to the top of the concrete. My neighbor has an "ankle twister" edge to his driveway where it wasn't backfilled enough and settled so I wanted to avoid that. Tom assured me it would be done properly but it wasn't. I came home from work as they were pulling out and they had used only the bare minimum of dirt. I was exactly what I didn't want. I told the foreman what had been promised so he agreed to come back in a week. During that week I tamped and spread the dirt myself so when they came back at least they had an example of what I wanted. The sidewalk to the house developed a huge crack. This concrete was poured in August so it had plenty of time to cure yet about February it started to show. By March it was completely across the sidewalk and part of the apron. I called Tom and he came out to look at it in April. He beat around the bush and wouldn't take blame for it. Bad concrete, cold winter, etc. etc. I asked him point blank if he stands behind his work and he said he did. Then he asked me if I could "help him out", as in, would I pay for the repair. I told him I've paid him once for the job, I'm not paying for it again. He agreed to "make it right" and to come back later and saw cut a line, bust out from the line to the nearest joint and then repour the concrete. Well, I waited all of 2014 and it never happened. I did not want to give him a bad review if he stood by his word. It's nearly November and now I get to look at my concrete crack grow this winter because Tarini did a crap jobshow more
