Ed and his crew were very knowledgeable, professional and very, very good at what they do. He had excellent sub-contractors that worked the same way. They showed up for work in all kind of conditions from high 90's heat and even worked in pouring rain. He suggested several ideas that made the building of my garage better and used venders and materials that we wanted or bought ourselves. I can't say enough about the great job he did and I have recommended him to everyone I know that needs a good contractor. I am a very happy customer and will definitely use his company again

We visited the contractor's offices and looked at sample storage barns. We told the contractor what we wanted. He prepared an estimate. We signed the estimate. The contractor said they would pre-manufacturer the major components and then assemble on site. The contractor beat his schedule by 50%. The cost was what the estimate said it would be. The materials, especially the quality of the lumber, was excellent

BENCO CUSTOM BUILDERS
DO NOT EMPLOY BENCO CUSTOM BUILDERS OR AJAY LALL. Despite the months that have passed since our attorney supervised mediation, my hands still shake from anger while typing this review. Regardless, it is my family?s duty to save others from making the mistake we made by employing this ?builder?. It was not until the bitter end, that we found out why he had no existing negative reviews. Like all the others before us (we now know), his attorneys required us to sign a ?non-disparagement agreement? in order to get some of our money back after mediation. Brilliant business plan. Lie and steal from the homeowner and then use their money as a means of ensuring they won?t report anything bad about you. However, we could not in good conscious sign that agreement and remain silent because no one should ever have to experience the immeasurable stress, pain and absolute frustration that we endured at the hands of this inept builder. The following are undisputable facts captured as written statements or during recorded conversations (yes, it came to that). Be wary of any response Benco Builders or AJ Lall provides to this review that appears to offer a reasonable explanation or counter opinion- he lies for a living. Pure and simple, this builder is an amateur. He will cite years of building experience, however his amateur status became apparent to us once we were forced to employ a real home builder to hold his hand and supervise his work. Our lives painfully played out like an episode of Spike TV?s ?Catch a Contractor?. My wife and I are not builders so we initially believed his incorrect explanations (lies) and stories when we first began discovering problems. Mistake after mistake, yet none of them were ever his fault. There was always someone/ something else to blame. At one point we even had to hire a structural engineer to produce a formal report for him to finally fix the massive crack present in our newly poured concrete patio that he repeatedly claimed was ?within acceptable limits?. He was rarely on site. During our 18 months of building (it was contracted to be less than 12) he took 4 vacations (must be nice...). He is clearly not an actor because he had difficulty hiding his surprise during walk-throughs when we discovered the major errors that occurred during his prolonged absences and his lack of supervision of sub-contractors. His go-to excuse was ?Oh, this is not finished yet?. We quickly learned this was another way of saying, ?oops I have to redo this and then charge you for it?. He bids low because he leaves out-of-pocket items out or grossly miscalculates/underestimates what things will actually will cost. We paid over $25,000 more than he ?expected? for the foundation excavation alone. We find out near the end that ?door hardware is not included? which our real contractor (again, the one we were forced to employ to supervise him) has never heard of such a thing in over 30 years in the business. He can also bid low by hiring non-English speaking subcontractors who no one has ever heard of and that cut corners on materials. We found out after the fact that his roofer didn?t even use roofing felt on our roof! Every area home supply company representative (lighting, plumbing fixtures, door hardware, etc.) we dealt with either rolled their eyes, muttered something negative about him or flat out stated that they would not work directly with him. We wish we had asked around with such industry folks before we hired him! We recommend you do if you don?t believe us. My favorite moment occurred when we brought in the experienced builder as a silent observer (unbeknownst to Benco) and we requested that Benco again explain to us why our basement ceiling was 6 inches lower than it was supposed to be (an error we caught, not him). The legitimate builder quickly picked apart his story (lies) such that AJ Lall turned to us with his tail was between his legs and said ?what do you want me to do?? Finally his lies were being uncovered! I could write a novel regarding this experience, In summary, if you want to be cheated and be left with ice cold drafty doors, mismatched stucco, cracks in concrete, squeaky floors, salvaged items charged to you as ?new?, sloppy painting, a leaky roof, complete lack of insulation in key walls, air ducts full of construction debris, mold in your basement and kitchen because of standing water, raccoons damaging your home because of persistently incomplete soffit work, etc., etc. then by all means hire Benco Builders and Ajay Lall

Overall a good experience, although some things need to be kicked up a notch. Next time the contract will specify all sub contractors can be changed per owner. The strong subs were the framers, electricians, trim workers, new roof contractors, independent Hennessy Landscaping, and a couple others. The weak sub contractors were plumbing ( fergusons and joe baumann) , appliances (hh gregg), independent contractor for the old windows (the " wood window surgeon "), Jae Company for cabinets, sidewalks/car park contractor, and a couple others. Overall, I would recommend people be open to contractors and sub contractors that are not part of the package. Be willing to get your own and get competitive bids, it is not that hard to do and is worth the time

Contractor did fair and timely work considering weather challenges. Contractor communicated regularly. Needed Contract addons were not included in bid but were priced OK. Contractor probably could have supervised subcontractors a little more closely; electrician had difficulty locating inground electric line as foundation subcontractor buried line I had marked for them

CJ (real name is Craig) promises "quality" work - and then delivers your worst contractor nightmare. We hired him because he had been recommended by the loan officer at Farm Credit Services where we got the construction loan (we think he and the loan officer had something going on since the loan officer made excuses for him even when she had proof that he was lying - I also found out that he owed them a bunch of money so maybe she was trying to keep him in business so they could get repaid), but we found out about bankruptcies and a history of stiffing subcontractors AFTER things started to go bad. I could write a dissertation about this experience. Here's just some of the highlights: He was never around to check up on subcontractors (so did not catch mistakes early), he lost time and had to redo things because he did not know the codes for the county the house was being built in, he used his "crew" (guys whom I'm guessing couldn't get hired anywhere else) for jobs that should have been subcontracted to professionals - e.g. he had them install the tile in the bathrooms and they left without cleaning up the grout, and then when they couldn't get all the dried grout off the tile, they put oil on it to try and make is disappear and blend in with the tile, the same crew drove spikes THROUGH the shingled roof to secure scaffolding supports, he sprayed more than $10,000 worth of high end windows without masking the glass or the sliding mechanisms- there was so much paint that you couldn't see out of them - then he scratched the glass trying to get the paint off, the job site was always filthy, his crew installed doors backwards, put trim up wrong, got paint overspray on expensive custom cabinetry I had ordered, and he didn't pay the subcontractors (we had them coming to us trying to get paid) even though he had signed papers when he got his draw at the bank saying everyone had been paid. In the end, we had to fire him before the extensive punch out list was completed, as he and his crew screwed up even more stuff trying to fix what was wrong in the first place

PAT WINEGARDNER ROOFING
We had a leak in our roof and had no idea where it was coming from. We had 2 other roofing contractors come out and both said it was a problem with the chimney. One contractor charged us to re-tuckpoint the chimney and caulk around the base of it. The other contractor said we just needed to install flashing around the base of the chimney so we had him do that. Neither of these contractors fixed the leak. We called Pat Winegardner, who within 5 minutes of climbing up on our roof told us that all we really needed was a new chimney cap and he would be more than happy to do the work for a very reasonable price. Since he was the most knowledgable/and or honest of the contractors who had come out, we had him put a new roof on the house. His crew was quick and efficient, cleaned up after themselves and fixed the leak problem we had. We would DEFINITELY use Pat Winegardner again

The website is dhsbuildersinc.com. Donny was another estimates provider, very professional, very knowledgeable and very cooperative. We decided to put together a package of repairs to be done on this unit and then I decided not to get the unit. I talked of paying him for his time and he told me not to bother and that we would make it up some other time. So, what more can I ask for. He is a general contractor and a builder. He has done a lot of building and stuff but I was going to use him as a general contractor for what I needed. What stood out was his willingness to help me out and make things work right. His customer service was very good and he was responsive, and I have got no complaints. I would use him if I had a need for a general contractor

Ason's Construction Inc
We hired Asons Construction 6 months ago to do the needed repairs on a home we purchased. Asons was horrible to deal with. They would give us a quote, we would agree on it, then they would turn around and DOUBLE the quote. They were horrible at explaining what was included in the prices that they were estimating. So we thought the project was getting done completely, but they would leave out the finishing work. So, we paid for something and it wasn't even completed. They were an absolute nightmare with every single project. I have spoken with other people in the area who have had similar experiences

Brown Builders Custom Homes Inc
We found Brown Builder to be wholly unqualified as a Custom Home Builder. Brown Builders did not seem to have a system for managing a large custom build project. His inability to plan, manage, and communicate led to numerous project delays, issues, and poor workmanship which needed remedied. The project ended up running significantly over the cost budget an running over the target time frame by months. Brown Builders had very poor communication skills and when questioned about the project would become very defensive and combative. At one point we had not received a budget update for a number of months, when we asked for an update our request went unfulfilled until we later received a large invoice which lacked detail and indicated we had gone significantly over budget. We communicated that we fully intended to pay the invoice, but asked for supporting details. Brown Builders responded by pulling all workers from the project, in breach of our contract. We had to hire an attorney to get Brown Builders to comply with our contract. Brown Builders has pictures of our home on his website which we find offensive. We could nearly go photo-by-photo and describe the issues we had to battle to try to make things right: (1) we had to hand scrub the wood floors ourselves for hours which were left unprotected during the build process (if you look closely in the pictures you can see the drywall dust and paint which had been ground into all the crevices of the wood floors), (2) the barnwood features he highlights in the photo’s were managed by us with no assistance from Brown Builders, (3) the built-in table he features in the photo was managed by us, (4) if you look closely at the photo’s you will notice the range hood vent which runs up the wall has about a 12 inch; gap at the top where it was supposed to abut the beam. We had to get this fixed with additional cost to us because Brown Builders provided the incorrect measurement originally and then took no responsibility, (5) the polished concrete basement floor had bare feet print in it from the workers, we had to battle with the sub directly to get this fixed, (6) they covered up an outlet with the beams in the ceiling and told us it was our fault because we said we wanted an outlet in the ceiling, (7) The decorative stamped concrete on the patio is a patch we had to argue about for months due to the poor finishing work… We have had subs from the project communicate to us that they do not intend to do work for Brown in the future. If you are looking for a builder we would recommend you stay away from Brown Builders. He was not an advocate or a partner of ours in our build process. It seemed more often he was an adversary who we had to try to manage around

Regarding the quality of the job, two different individuals, both of whom claimed to know what they were talking about, remarked that the work being done exceeded what one would usually expect. Based upon my experience, I can wholeheartedly recommend Shawn without reservation

not an honest person. the city declined our application to build a 3-season room. the contractor received a large deposit and refuses to return it, even it is not our fault that the project is not accepted.we offered payment for his time to prepare the drafts of drawings, but he took the entire many thousands deposit. pending court now. BE AWARE
