Squareroot Construction

The pros: quickly responded to initial inquiry and provided an estimate (we tried to get estimates from 2 other providers and never got calls back which is ultimately why Squareroot got the job). The design was exactly what we had in mind and was constructed from quality materials. We do love the finished product. However, this brings us to cons - there were many so I'll only list a few: after the initial down payment our project was put off for 2 weeks although Squareroot claimed each week that they would be there to start. We had discussed during our initial consult wanting to see samples of stain colors and personally choosing our color. Squareroot later claimed to not be able to get samples (we found them easily available on the internet) and proceeded to pick out and purchase stain without our input. Squareroot frequently was no-show when telling us earlier that he would be here. This was a problem for us b/c we have dogs and must make plans in advance to manage their outdoor needs and he was aware of this. Last, we had agreed upon a project completion date. We had told the contractor that the date was dictate by some upcoming travel and later visitors to our house. The job was not complete when we needed to leave town. We left the contractor a message saying we would be gone for 4 days, but someone else would be around the house. We came home to find the job still not complete and most of the contractor's supplies removed. He emailed saying that he needed more money and would then complete the job. To make a long(er) story short, in the end we cancelled the final portion of our contract with Squareroot and ended up having to finish staining and re-staining the structure. The contractor was very unprofessional in his communication over the phone. To summarize: great design and build, horrible customer relations. Avoid if you can. We felt like we paid him just to not come back.
