we do crappy flooring (tile, hardwood, carpet, laminate,) interior and exterior painting, siding and much more
I originally hired him to replace the flooring and paint the walls of a house that I bought. The house was in very bad condition and he did a good job on the surface. I did, however, ask him to leave the flooring in the kitchen alone because I wanted to tile it later. I arrived at the house to find that he had replaced the laminate in the kitchen. He explained that even though I asked him not to because he thought that it would look nicer if he did. Closer examination of the walls showed that there were not enough coats of paint on the walls and the previous color was bleeding through. The carpet on the stairs is not actually secured to the stairs and it does not stay in place. He was supposed to fix both but never did. I hired him to remodel the kitchen and bathrooms and that is what began the nightmare that lasted the next three months. I am also still fixing his work. First, he cut through power cords in the kitchen as he was demolishing the wall. The power line went to the garage and kitchen and severing it fried the hot water heater. I asked him to call an electrician because I knew that something was wrong. I didn't know at that time that he had cut through the wires. We were without hot water for 5 days before he called an electrician. He did replace the hot water heater but that also took a few more days of showing in cold water. He would come to the house around 10 if we were lucky. He'd spend a good portion of the day on the phone or running errands. He only actually worked for about 2-3 hours each day (hence why it took him three months to complete our house). I don't think he ever measured what he was doing. He always bought too little or too much. He did not give me the impression that he had ever remodeled a kitchen and that he was figuring it out as he went along...at the risk of the supplies that I had paid for. I think he ruined 3 kitchen cabinets trying to "figure it out". All of the doors on the cabinets hang crooked. The water hookups to the sink are reversed so we get cold water when we turn on the hot and vice versa. He did not leave room for the outlet covers when he installed the backsplash, so now the plate covers are not flush with the back splash and looks ridiculous. He tried to fix it by putting silicone between the backsplash and the plate covers which resulted in plate covers that were still not flush but surrounded by silicone. The ceiling in my basement had water damage from leaking pipes which I had him fix with the original job...then mysteriously, the leak returned after he had installed out new bathtub. The ceiling was severely damaged causing me to fork out another $500 for him to repair it again. Rusted water comes out of the faucet of the bath tub for the first couple seconds that it is running...we had him replace the faucet and now it is rusted. Did he use a faucet from an old work site? He did not use silicone molding around the bathtub so it is cracked and needs to be replaced. The caulk he used for the tiles cannot be cleaned appropriately. We had to clean the caulk off the tiles in the shower ourselves. He said that we should take a sponge with us when we shower. He removed the door to the bathroom to lay tiles...the door was gone for three weeks. The tile on the bathroom looked like armature work and we had to have someone fix his work. We had him install floor heaters in the bathroom and he ran the electricity from a baseboard heater in the kitchen to the thermostat. He cut a hole on the wall between the bathroom and the kitchen for the wires and the hole is still there. He replaced a wall in my basement but did not insulate between the main wall and the new wall. We had to punch holes through the drywall last winter to heat the pipes with a blow dryer in order to keep them from freezing. We have since demolished his wall, insulated and reconstructed a new wall. There are gaps in the tile where the washer and dryer sit. The tile is also not cut at the appropriate angle and does not sit together. I guess he didn't care what it looked like there since the washer and dryer would cover it. During his three month visit with us, he would call me often to ask for money so that he could take his dad out to dinner or other random reasons. He would not come to the house for days at a time and I often had to call him to ask when he was coming over to complete a project that he had started (so I could have privacy in the bathroom again). He never did a final walk through and I decided to cut my losses. I told him to pick up the remainder of the balance and not come to my house again. He told my wife that we should get the lock rekeyed to our door because "every realtor in town had one" when he picked up the final payment. I took his remark as a threat because he had had a key to the house. We are still fixing his work to this day. The kitchen looks nice when you look at it from a distance, but once you get closer, you can see the poor work. Everyday we find another new example of shoddy workmanship. I regret ever doing business with this man.
