Pella Window Store

The windows are fine, however their referred contractor was horrible. Steve Walsh with Professional Construction was referred by the representatives from Pella Window Store. The contractor showed the first time in October 2013, we went through the complete project down to every detail, I described specifically where I wanted the windows installed. I receiver a bid for $12,000.00 several weeks later. The bid specified installation of two egress windows, ( I supplied the window wells, I didn't want the window wells he recommended. I purchased Rockwell window wells) and two custom size windows in the basement. I specified the windows needed to be as close to the floor joist as possible, due to that request, Steve's bid included special fabricated metal headers, to alleviate the use of wooden headers. Steve came back to the house in December, we again discussed the specifics of the job, at that time I paid him 50% of the bid, Steve claimed he could return in January to install the windows. In March, I called Pella to find out why I hadn't been contacted by them or Steve to schedule an installation appt., they were sure why Steve had not contacted me at that point. Steve finally showed in mid April to install the windows. He did not have engineered metal headers, he made the headers out of 12 x 2 boards, which put my windows around 8" lower than what I specifed. The installation when downhill from there, he cut a 5' x 5' hole in the foundation to install one of the egress windows and cut 12" lower than he should have. I am 5' 5" tall, I would have had to bend down to look out the window. I stopped him immediately, he claimed it had to be installed that low to accomodate the window well. I instructed him to install the window well higher as we had planned to enable the window to be as high as possible. He was angry and and accused me of changing my mind????? When all was said and done, we only had him install one egress window, the 2 custom windows and the bathroom window. He charged us the complete price of the bid, he complained that he had to make payroll, and his previous foreman had stolen a lot of money from him. I wouldn't have complained about the overcharge, until he left and I found a mess, his crew did not clean up after themselves, I had their food wrappers, drinks, mud, boards they had screwed in to the concrete floor to anchor the windows were not removed, glass was everywhere from replacing the bathroom window, he used my shop vac and it was full of hardened concrete, there was damage on several items. He refused to return to clean the mess and replace/repair the damage. I called Pella and complained about his service, sent pictures for proof and the manager of Pella did NOTHING to help correct this situation. I will not purchase any replacement windows from this dealer.
