+ -1 moreI called to set up an appointment to have someone come out. The lady that answered said she would talk to the owner in about 10 minutes and call me back. By the next day she hadn't called me so I called again and got voicemail and left a message. A waited a week and called again and talked to the same lady. She sounded irritated that I kept calling and told me again in no uncertain terms that she had said she would call me when she saw the owner to tell him about my problem. I got the feeling she didn't want me calling back and that I was being a pest. I had the owner' so cell phone and called home a week later and got his voicemail. He never called back either. I ended up calling Pierson Technical Services in Dunbar and they came out the next morning.
Description of Work: I needed a breaker box checked that I thought lightening might have hit.

Description of Work: My furnace was running, but with no heat. The temperature was approximately 20 degrees outside, so I needed a quick response. The repairman came to my home the following morning, found the problem, fixed it, and I've had no further problems. The repairman was very professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. I would definitely recommend Absten & Sons.

Description of Work: Electrician came to my house on 8/22/14 to give me an estimate for upgrading my service to a 200 amp service. I have not heard from him. I called their office on 9/3/14 to see what the problem was and their receptionist said she would have him get back with me. Still have not heard. I wanted them to install new HVAC, but will now shop elsewhere. I am really disappointed. I wanted to use a local company, but it isn't looking like they want local business.

+ 0 moreI was treated well on the phone when I called. I called late in the day, so I was assigned a couple of guys for the next morning. They called to let me know they were coming and an approximate time, and they showed up during that time. They were polite and professional, worked efficiently, informed me of everything they were doing, and the work they did was solid. The only reason I wouldn't use them in the future is the price of their labor. The service call automatically generates a fee equal to an hour of labor, and the hourly rate is quite steep. I marked No for and quot;Would you use this provider in the future?and quot; but in actuality I would still use them if no cheaper options were available.

I had two circuits that weren't working and I needed several lights and attic fans replaced. The person came, said he'd check the faulty circuits while he was there and then give me an estimate for the total cost of the repairs and installations. He fixed some wires and then left, saying he would get back to me with an estimate in a day or two. That was five years ago and I never heard from him again. After several days, I called the office, but no one returned my call.

+ 0 moreThe past few days have been unseasonably hot and I noticed that the fan on the air conditioning unit would start off strong and, after a few hours, have very little force. I researched this problem on the internet and narrowed it down to a damaged/freezing coil or a low freon level. I looked for a local HVAC company with good references. I also had my wife check for any recent ads. She found a coupon for Absten and Sons. There were several discount options available, so I called and made an appointment for the next day after 1 pm, as they were very busy. Joe, the technician, called and said that he was ahead of schedule and made it to my house about an hour ahead of time. He thoroughly checked the inside and outside units. He discovered that the freon level was about 2 pounds low but did not find any leaks, damage or other serious issues. Joe was very helpful. We discussed the pros and cons of my system and what may need to be done in the future to keep it running good. My only complaint would be with the billing. There was a service fee of $65 just to come out plus $85 per hour. I haven't had to call out a tech in quite a while so that may be customary. Fortunately, Joe called his boss who approved the use of a coupon I had for waiving the service fee if repair work was completed. I'm not certain that the service met the coupon stipulations but any company that is willing to save a man a dollar these days will get my repeat business! Overall, my first experience with Absten and Sons was excellant.
Description of Work: Joe, the technician, examined my air conditioning system for problems. He checked the inside and outside units for issues and filled the unit with freon.

+ -1 moreWe bought a generator from Home Depot so all of our billing went through them. Another contractor came to look at the installion but never came back. We called Home Dopot on a Monday and Absten and Sons called the next morning and sent an installation crew. They were very polite and worked very hard in 100 degree weather. First we had the Gas and Electrical crew show up and they did what they needed to do then the generator crew showed up. They even asked if I minded if they took a 30 minute lunch. We were very pleased about the quality of work, punctuality, and professional of the workers. Would I use them again? Yes. We had no problems what so ever. Best yet, that very night our power went off and the generator just took over without us doing anything and we had power until the next day when the power came back on.
Description of Work: Installation of a concrete pad and 17kw generator. Installation of new electrical panel and gas lines.

Description of Work: We had a break in our water line, running through the front yard. This had happened before, in a different spot, and I had used this same company, and was pleased with their work. However, the second time I called, I was not only disappointed in their work, but absolutely appalled at their insulting response to me. The original cost, for a plumber and helper, had been around $350.00 for around 2.5 hours of work. They located the leak, dug til they found and repaired it, then replaced the dirt. They left with a check in hand that day. On the second occasion, it took several days for work to begin, I was never informed of any updates, etc, and the verbal estimate of around the same price, $350-$400, was not upheld. This employee quoted the same price, but recommended an excavator to dig, and because that was supposed to be faster, he said that it would be around the same price. The excavator dug for approximately 30 min, eventually found the leak, then the plumber started working. The excavator, and helper, stood around for approximately 4 hours, waiting on the plumber, and BILLING ME the whole time. The plumber had to make repeated trips back to the shop, charging me for his inadequate stocking of his truck. I had requested that he bring the bill to me after he was through (the site was several hundred feet from my house). He not only didn't comply with that request, but doctored the copies of work orders that I signed. He didn't want to face me with a cost that was twice what he quoted, knowing that I watched them stand around, and had no idea that was being billed for this. An office worker has responded to my complaint with condescension and insults, all of which are assumptions on her part, as she was not present during the actual disputed time. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. And in telling others of my issues with this company, I have heard other complaints, which I know I cannot list. But I wish everyone would take the time to do so.
