Response from Basement Authority of West Virginia
We are sorry we did not meet this customer's expectations. When we did our inspection, we noticed some issues that needed to be addressed before we could provide a detailed proposal. (We wanted to be certain that our solution would actually fix her issues, and not just cover up other underlying issues.) We have not heard back from this customer. We would rather lose a customer by being upfront and honest than gain a customer by being less than honest.

The project took two days. It involved jackhammering about 65 feet of concrete 6 inches wide next to the indoor block wall. The concrete was super hard and that task was hard work. Installation of the below ground drainage system and sump pump went smoothly. All jack hammered material was carried out one 5 gallon bucket at a time. Needless to say there was a lot of dust created indoors. Perhaps they could invent a better way to suppress or deal with that dust. We have had one hard rain since the installation, and not a single drop of water appeared in an area that would have previously seen water.
Description of Work: Installed a proprietary drainage system including sump pump, to eliminate a basement water problem.

We were really happy with them. They are really busy. We moved into the house on the 1st of November and we had a baby on that day as well. They said that if we paid their employees overtime, they would come out on a Friday and a Saturday and do it for us. We were really happy with that. They were scheduled out until February, but they came out and did it in November since we were willing to pay the $200 of overtime. The basement is dry now; we are happy. With regard to price, it was expensive, but it was worth it.
Description of Work: Basement Systems of West Virginia waterproofed our basement. We had issues with water coming in the wall and everything staying dry.

After considering a variety of options to keep water out of our crawlspace I decided that the better route was to not worry about water getting in and to keep the moisture contained. Our floor joists were rotting and the air handling unit was rusting. The price seemed pretty steep for the labor and materials but it was in line with other drainage options. There was a group of about five that quickly did the job very professionally. The crawlspace is so nice now that I (seriously) take my shoes off to walk through it. It is reassuring that they leave a humidistat so you can monitor the humidity in the crawlspace and see the results of your spent money. I did not buy one of their very expensive dehumidifiers using the logic that if the barrier worked the way it was supposed to that I shouldn't need to dehumidify. Instead, I put in a small room dehumidifier. The humidity in our crawlspace prior to the work was over 90%. Now the humidity never exceeds 55%. I consider it money well spent.
Description of Work: Completely sealed all crawlspace wall. Trenched the perimeter for drainage. Installed a sump.

The estimator greeted me, went into the crawllspace. Did what he had to do, then he knocked on the door to come into the house to explain what I needed to know. He showed me different options for the crawlspace protection and the prices. I explained that I would talk it over with my wife and get back with him to let him know if I would take out that service or not.
Description of Work: The technician who performed the estimate was courteous, personable, and professional. I didn't buy this service because it wasn't a good time for me to spend that kind of money. If I feel I''l need this service in the future, I'll try them again.

I was thoroughly impressed with these guys. I called Basement Systems of WV because they give free estimates. So I figured I would let them figure out why I was getting water in the basement, instead of guessing at a couple of remedies myself that may or may not work. They sent a packet with a lot of information regarding wet basements, solutions, and an introductory letter that included a picture of the engineer they would be sending to the house. Getting the appointment took a little bit of time, I think it took about 6 weeks from when I called to get the appointment with the the engineer. The engineer arrived and did a pretty good job of assessing the situation and coming up with a solution. He wrote me an estimate, discussed financing options, and presented me with a written estimate for the work to be accomplished. After looking at other options, I decided to go with Basement Systems. I called and scheduled the work, again, it was about a month before they could begin the work. The day they arrived the technicians were very professional. They hung a lot of plastic curtains to try to reduce the amount of concrete dust that was going to ensue. They got to work rapidly, I honestly can say that I have never seen two men work so hard for so long. I thought they would have to tear out a whole section of slate tile to get to where they needed to demo, but one of them got a saw, cut the area, and removed only what he needed without damaging any of the other tile. Impressive! They worked hard and explained to me what they were doing as they went along. When they were done (it took all day), they cleaned up and explained how everything worked. The next week, as scheduled, I had another crew in to re-install the walls with metal studs and a concrete type sheetrock. They explained that if water got behind the walls this would not allow mold or mildew to grow and the drain systems, installed the week before, would remove any water to the newly installed sump pump. (Which is very nice, not some open hole in the ground, rather, an enclosed pumping system, and it double as a new drain in the garage) These guys were done in a few hours, again, very professional and informative. I think these guys are top shelf. You have to wait a bit to get them to your home, and get them started, but I think this is because of the volume of work they have to do. I also think they are a little pricey, but I am a believer in you pay for what you get, and when you are talking about a major investment, such as your home, pay the little extra and have the job done right. Also the lifetime warranty is a plus.
Description of Work: They removed the lower part of the interior walls to expose the cinderblock and floor behind the wall. then they chiseled away 4 inches of concrete from around the walls, installed a drainage systems and sump pump, and poured new concrete afterwards. The next week they returned and replaced the finished walls in the basement with a concrete type sheetrock.

The work was done as noted. They were on time everyday. The technicians were well informed and answered any questions I had while they were on the job.....and they left the job spotless. The staff was knowledgable and courteous which is very important to me. They never rushed me when I had questions and I am very pleased in every area from start to finish.
Description of Work: BASEMENT SYSTEMS OF WEST VIRGINIA......I was so pleased with their representative who came to my house and gave me an estimate and answered all my questions. He made suggestions and informed me as to what steps I should take to correct the problems in my crawl space. The work was completed on time, and I am very satisfied with the work. The technicians left my property immaculate, and they informed me as to what they were doing as they did it. They answered my questions and showed me what needed to be done to maintain what they had done. The staff and technicians were polite, patient and professional at all times. I called with questions after the days they were here doing work if I had any questions and they were very patient and accommodating. I would highly recommnd BASEMENT SYSTEMS OF WEST VIRGINIA without any hesitation. They are a credit to the business community of NW West Virginia.

We did get an estimate from them but we haven't made any decisions yet. It came with a guarantee and my dentist used them and that's why I called them. My dentist said they used them and they were very happy with them. She said that they were extremely neat and they did work that wasn't on the proposal and didn't charge her any extra and they fixed a couple of other little things while they were there. They're very courteous and in fact one of the things was the date that they gave me at first I said was too far out and so they moved it up, but the day they were supposed to come and after about 45 minutes they weren't here and I called them and they had it down for the next week. I said that's not what you told me on the phone so they went back in the phone records and they arranged to get the person there that day and he came out after dinner. When they went back through the phone records to check on what was actually said in the conversation the girl who made the appointment called me and said I just wanted to let you know that was our mistake and not yours. Now they didn't have to do that. They resolved the problem and they got somebody here and then admitted it was there mistake and that was impressive to me.

They were showed up just before our appointment time. They went straight to work and explained what their process would be for the day. They put protective plastic sheeting and carpet strips to catch dirt and dust. It took them about 8 hours and worked the whole time. If they even took a lunch I didn't notice. Work was constantly being done. Once completed they cleaned any trace that they were their and went over maintenance procedures. I was so happy to pay the money for it to be done in one day.

The workers were an hour late and the work took an extra two hours to complete. They called me at work a total of six times, interrupting my teaching day and helping my principal's irritation with me. They did not rebuild the steps as had been agreed in the first of the two estimates and which was discussed at both meetings with the company representative. The rep omitted the rebuilding on the second estimate and did not mention this. He ADMITTED this was bad business and unethical treatment.
Description of Work: The workers installed a water guard system and sump pump in my basement closet, under the steps. On the first estimate, the workers were to dismantle and rebuild the steps. On the second estimate, the representative omitted that step and left me with a hole to the ground four feet below.
