Contract signed for one amoount of $18,000. But when jobs were done. Ended up costing approx. $37,000. Remodeled bathroom, kitchen, and built Room addition. Alot of carpentry mistakes on finishing touches in kitchen. A roof vent in room addition that goes nowhere. Oh left a window in bathroom that was to have been removed.

When Bobby Sisk (owner of the company) did the estimate it was approx. $2,000. This amount went up to almost $4,000 because he said that he didn't include the price of the stairs in the initial estimate. I told him the way I wanted the deck built and he said I wouldn't like that so he built it the way he wanted it to look. Many of the boards were cut too short which left big gaps where none should be and the boards are not even at either end which gives the deck a very unprofessional look. He cut the siding on my house too high (and crooked) so now you can see the crooked cut and the white insulation material underneath the siding. He didn't even bother to put down a piece of trim to hide the mistake. Several of the boards were not even screwed down properly, I had to do this later. The rail going down the stairs is crooked and quite obviously so. The long rail on the front of the deck actually fell off when I leaned against it and 4 of the seven steps fell down. These issues were due to the contractor not installing the proper anchoring. I have since fixed these myself. He also installed rails along the bottom of the deck so I could enclose the area below the deck and stairs, but most of these fell down too. In all fairness, I did not call the contractor back to fix the issues. Based upon his first attempt, I didn't think the second would be any better.
Description of Work: I hired him to build a deck on the front of my house.

Response from RDS Home Improvement
None of this makes any sense to me. I was called back by Member, to do an insurance estimate,a little over a year after the deck was completed, on a rental unit located next door to his primary residence, and not one word of ANY complaints listed above. As for specifics, the orginal deck size changed, and increased in width, due to ending in a window if I remember correctly, thus some of the increased cost. Steps were never discussed UNTIL after Member visited my residence, then he told me he wanted , his steps"just like yours Bobby", thus that increased the cost. As for the workmanship issues....Why didnt he say something then? Why did he pay me? Why didnt he say something, when I was there to do the insurance estimate , on the rental property? If , he had ALL these issues, why would he call me in the first place, to do the insurance estimate? Would you let someone raise the price by $2000 , for, from Member's comments, no reason, and then pay it? I had no idea issues existed with the project, I would have gladly , given the chance, visited the project, and if his claims were substantiated, and due to poor workmanship as he states, corrected the issues.
