When I had the heat pump installed in 2008, the contractor told me he would recommend the heat pump because the manufacturer had developed the heat pump to the point it would not be non efficient in the state of West Virginia. It would however cost me 1000.00 dollars more. I said fine, if it would save me money in the long run. In early June the heat pump failed. the contractor was called out to my house and he ran a check on the heat pump. He said a valve had faid and he could not replace it I might as well get a new regular air conditioner. He said it would not cost me any thing because it was under warrenty. He also said I would be able to get some of my money back, because it did not cost as much as the heat pump. I said fine and he proceeded to do other tests. This went on for about 2 1/2 weeks. each time telling me he would show up in the morning of the following day and he might make it there before 2 pm if he made it at all. He kept telling me he had to be there in the morning to speak with technicians from the manufacturer. This never transpired. Finally after two weeks I started to get upset. It was however 100 to 105 degrees on several days. He brought over a free standing air conditioner and placed it in my living room. Very inconveinant, although it was some relief from the scortching weather we were having. another couple of days went by and I had to call him again to find out the disposition of the siuation. He showed up with his son and inside of three hours he swapped the heat pump for the smaller standard air conditioner. I had not heard from him again untill I had my girlfriend try to contact him from my home phone because he was obviously not answering or returning any of my phone calls from my cell phone. She told me he said he did all the replacement work out of his pocket and I wasn't intitaled to any reimbursement for the cost of the unit displacement. I called him a couple of times myself in as many weeks and finaly got a hold of him on the phone. He said to me I wasn't supposed to get the total cost of the difference back that I was only supposed to get back 250.00 dollars. The actual difference of cost between the units minus the labor costs. He said he would not be giving it to me and that I was supposed to get it from the distributor. Valley Supply, Bill Smith. I called them and they said the difference between the units is 256.00 and I was supposed to recover that from David Daughrty at KoolMax. I thought to my self that this is warrenty work and the manufacturer should be the one place I should go. Nordyne/ Gibson told me they didn't have anything to do with it and I needed to take it up with the distributor on the contractor. So here I am with no other road in front of me outside of legal action.
Description of Work: This complaint is based on warrenty work. The contractor is KoolMax represented by David Daurghty. The distributor is Valley Supply, representitive Bill Smith. The manufacturer is Nordyne/ Gibson heat pumps and air conditioners. The heat pump I had installed in 2008 failed. The contractor said it had failed due to a malfunction in a valve. The copper lines in the back of the unit were hot. Not normal for both lines to be hot. The contractor said one should be hot and the other should be cold. The heat pump did not put cold air in the house. The fan worked ,the thermostat worked, and the handler worked. The contractor told me he could take the heat pump out and install a normal air conditioner. This would not cost me anything because the heat pump was under a warrenty.
