On 28 December, 2018, Tina Neil, representing St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, New Martinsville WV, contacted Christopher Daniels, owner/operator of Accedia Moving Services, Parkersburg WV, by telephone to move two pianos: the church had just received the donation of a piano, and in turn that would allow it to donate a turn-of-the-century player piano, with several large boxes of rolls, to the Wetzel County Museum. Mr. Daniels said that he already had a team scheduled to be in New Martinsville the next day, 29 December, and that he could conduct the moves then, and that his rate was $159 an hour. The team showed up at about 1500 hours (3 PM). Only at this time (and not when the crew arrived that morning when there would have been time to read it) Ms. Neil was presented with a 13-page contract in pica 8 type with 18 separate sections. She asked the crew chief if she had to read it, and he replied that it was not necessary - just routine. The work was done by 1700 hours (5 PM). The distances involved were minimal – two blocks for the first piano, about five or six blocks for the player piano. Egress and access to all buildings was easy. It was of considerable surprise that the church was charged not only $318 for the move, but $477 for three hours travel time and $96.23 for fuel, $573.23 in total for travel. Mr. Daniels had not informed Ms. Neil of any responsibility to pay for travel, indeed in not doing so left the distinct impression that the travel had already been taken care of. The treasurer of St. Ann’s, Terence Zuber, had to pay the bill when the crew left, with the intent of contesting it. When Ms. Neil later contacted Mr. Daniels by telephone, he said that his crew chief had made a mistake in accepting the job, because he was unable to complete the job he had originally come to New Martinsville to do, and therefore had to return to New Martinsville the next day, 30 December, so St. Ann’s was charged for the travel on 29 December. In fact, Mr. Daniels had accepted the job himself, the crew chief was only carrying out his orders. The treasurer of St. Ann’s, Terence Zuber, contacted M. Daniels twice by email, maintaining that the church did not consider the entire travel cost justifiable for two hours’ work, and wanted a refund. Mr. Daniels refused. Mr. Daniels is not willing to take responsibility for his poor decision-making, first blaming the crew chief, then shamelessly overcharging a church which is donating to the local museum.

They were late. The cost was over $500 and that’s not what they told me. They took too long to move and they took too long to unload. They were very slow. The longer they took to move which caused longer to unload it and that causes the hourly rate to be longer. They were young. One guy was too old. My fiancé was helping them move stuff into the truck from my old place because the timing was longer than anticipated. They told that they didn’t know I had chairs. I told them that I had chairs. Everything was all boxed up, everything was broken down and everything was moved to the living room. Everything was right there. They took forever. I would never use them again, ever. I would tell my friends not to use them.

"I must say I am not much of a internet review site advocate. I am responding to your post after being called numerous times by Angie's List representatives wanting Accedia to become a paid member. A negative review was mentioned during these calls so therefore I will respond. I see that you state in your review you had a service date of August 15, 2012. This is over 2 1/2 years ago, and you have decided to now leave a review? Moving contracts in hard form have been boxed and warehoused 2 years ago. When entering your name into my client database I find no record of your name. I am the owner of Accedia and answer each phone call myself from the time a client calls to schedule a move, to questions before a move, and if there were to be an issue with any service. I would imagine if you would have an issue you would call as the issue was occurring? the next day? The next week? Maybe you were busy from your move and maybe waited a bit, maybe a call in a month? But 2 1/2 years? You do state that you spent around $500 there are very very few moves that can be completed for this amount. Accedia never states how much an hourly move will be over the phone, as every move is different, in addition to customers requests, and drive times from different locations. Most 1 bedroom apartments fall into the $400 to $500 range alone. I notice that in reference to moving you felt that your movers were slow, and some to old, and some to young. Moving is not meant to be a speed process. when moving an employee is to work at a safe pace for the interest of the cargo being handled, and for personal safety. Accedia also does not discriminate in reference to age or race. Accedia only staffs personnel that are suited to complete the requirements of the position they are hired for. Accedia at no time whatsoever allows a client to load a truck, or work with staff in any way shape or form whatsoever. I derive from your review that you entered into an agreement with a mover on a hourly basis. All moving companies operating on a hourly basis charge you from the time their trucks leave their office until they return to said office, in addition companies charge you for fuel by a set amount, or a premium that would be a percentage of your total bill. I can find no record of servicing you in any form. I would suggest when issuing reviews, or addressing a dissatisfaction with any service in any industry to try to be somewhat expedient, as this will make issues easier to resolve for you, and most likely produce the best possible outcome. I hope my response also sheds a bit of light on how a moving company operates in relation to hours, speed, and expectations. In the future when utilizing a moving company you may ask for a SET FEE where it is not based on a hourly rate, therefore speed, and other factors will be eliminated for you. When asking for a SET FEE this will require a company representative to come to your home to view your project firsthand to be able to offer a SET FEE. I will reiterate again I find no records of servicing you. Accedia Moving Services LLC does hope that some of the basic moving information is helpful for your future endeavors."

I called Accedia to get an estimate on the cost of their services. It took two tries to contact them, but after that I had no contact issues. They offer two, three, and four man moving teams for tiered pricing with a four hour minimum service expected. They offer a full service moving experience, but I opted for a more conservative approach by packaging all of our belongings in moving boxes. I was able to call and get an appointment scheduled in less than a week for a two man team. They were very polite and considerate on the phone in the scheduling process. A few days from the scheduled appointment, we had some plans change and required more assistance to move items. I called to request the four man team, and they were able to assist on even shorter notice.
On the day of the move, I received a call ten minutes past their scheduled arrival stating they were running behind. They showed up an hour later than scheduled, but at least they called saying they were running late. Upon arrival, they went over their paperwork quickly and I walked them through the house to show them what all they needed to move. After that, I watched them turn into a bee colony of activity. The owner/manager stopped by a short while into the appointment to see how things were going and to introduce himself. The workers kept working and when they had a question, they did not hesitate to ask to keep things moving. They were polite and very considerate the whole time. They tried to pack everything into the truck carefully and the heavier items did not seem to be an issue.
They drove the truck to the new house where we walked them through the rooms to tell them where we wanted everything to be placed. The workers quickly started unloading items and placing them wherever we wished. Again, when there were any questions, they asked promptly. They continued to work without too many breaks until the job was complete. They carried a good bit of heavy furniture up and down stairs.
After all was said and done and my wife and I were unpacking, we did notice a few dings on furniture where things were packed tightly in the truck, but it does not appear to be anything that isn't easily buffed out or polished. It was absolutely in better shape than it would have ever been if I would have completed the move myself with the help of a few friends, and everything definitely went a lot faster by hiring movers.
Overall, I believe the experience was worth every penny! My back feels much better today without having to move all that heavy furniture. Other than the late arrival and a few dings on the furniture, I was very pleased with the service we were provided.

After having another company cancel on us at the time they were to arrive at our apartment on moving day, we called Accedia. They arrived quickly and surveyed the items to be moved. They then started loading the truck. They were safe, efficient, and professional. The 2 movers loaded a 17 foot truck in under 3 hours. This included moving all the items (beds, washer, dryer, deep chest freezer, etc.) from our 2nd floor apartment. They were extremely courteous and helpful.
