Very polite, professional. I was informed that my issue should be handled by the power company vs the vendor which I truly appreciated. However the name of the person at the power company who gave my vendor contact this answer was not provided. After weeks of trying to get assistance or answers from the power company I called the vendor back to ask the estimate and was told $930.00 with no guarantee that was the true final amount , in other words it could have been higher. There would also be no digging and the power would need to be turned off. I decided to try a 2nd vendor who gave me an estimate ate o f $200.00 and did not require having the power turned off ..so that is what I went with. The work was completed quickly, I never actually even met the vendor as the estimate, work was done while I was at work. I mailed his check and as it turned out he had dine work in the past for my family's rental property. I don't understand the vast difference in the price...................All I wanted was to have the exposed electrical wires covered and I am certain the 2nd vendor did a good job. I do appreciate the first vendor steering me back towards the power company who at one time took care of this type of problem.
Description of Work: An estimate only was provided for the possible repair of the conduit at my electrical outlet on the exterior of my townhome.

Rather than estimating the cost of replacing the entrance-cable, Mark gave an estimate for a service upgrade. Because this is the home of an elderly woman on a fixed income (my mom), I had the city inspector visit and he indicated that, as I thought, the electric-service entrance-cable did need to be replaced plus miscellaneous other minor work. However, the home did not need a service upgrade. When I asked Mark to quote on only the necessary work he expressed concern about breaking pieces and said that he was unwilling to do only the necessary work. That sounded hollow to me and I contacted other companies. The necessary work was done by two young workers from another company for one-fourth the price quoted by Bartling & McLaughlin. If Bartling & McLaughlin really were concerned about the difficulty of the job, and the job in fact turned out to be so easy, then I'm left doubting the ability of Bartling & McLaughlin. Interesting footnote is that the city inspector mentioned that, obviously, it is better for a person on a fixed income to have a safe house than to have an upgraded house. To my mind that means that If the owner can't afford the upgrade, a good company should be willing to do the fixes only.
Description of Work: This company was asked to give an estimate on replacing an electric-service entrance-cable which was badly worn.

First visit, thought fan might just be dirty, but took it down and tested it and indeed it was broken. Ordered new fan which took about three weeks to come in. Cleaned the interior of the ceiling light/fan appliance and installed new fan and tested it. The workers were polite and worked quickly. The cost, including the price of a new fan, was lower than anticipated. Gave us a pack of LED lights for the appliance. Glad to find such a good business to count on.
Description of Work: Replaced broken ceiling exhaust fan in bathroom ceiling fan/heater/light.

This was about the third or fourth electrician's company my husband and I attempted to reach for work in our house, and Bartling and McLaughlin actually ANSWERED the phone - in person. No voice mail - no promises to call back later - they answered and drove over that very day! My husband telephoned on a Thursday morning; a worker met with him at the house that afternoon and fixed two of our lights immediately. He told my husband that after we purchase some light fixtures, he would install them. The following Monday: my husband called the company to say we were ready to install light fixtures. The electrician was ready to come over right then! Everything was finished in under two hours! We are accustomed to paying people immediately after work is performed (plumbers, roofers, repairmen, etc.), but the electrician said a bill would come to our house. No sticker shock - the invoice was very reasonable. I'm so happy to have light where it's been dark for so long, and actual people who returned our calls. And they showed up to top it all off!
Description of Work: Replaced 3 ceiling light fixtures; fixed two lights with a short circuits; gave advice on what the house needs for future repairs.

Everyone I spoke to or interacted with was friendly and professional. They were there when they said they would be and finished the work quickly. They also charged 400.00 less then what they estimated the cost of the service to be. Couldn't be happier with them or their work.

the electricians were wonderful! The outlet was very difficult to install because of an impeding support beam but they did a beautiful job. They came the same day that I called. They were polite and professional AND they cleaned up after themselves! I would definitely use them again. I thought the price was fair and I would recommend them.
Description of Work: Determined what some non-functioning switches were supposed to do and repaired them. (Not as easy as it sounds). Replaced two GFI's. Installed a new outlet.

The night before during the night I had noticed the power was off in several rooms of my house, being that it was the middle of the night I checked the breaker panel and I reset the breaker i thought was the culprit went back to bed, the next day I noticed the power was off in several rooms of the house once again, I tried the same as the night before resetting the breaker but this time no luck, at this point i was getting very concerned the problem was more serious, (there was a house that had burned down on Thanksgiving night I did not want to be the next), I got on the list looking for electricians to call to respond that day while I was looking on the list the power came back on by it's self (now I'm really worried) I contacted this company and explained the situation to the person on the phone and he said he would send a crew out right away at the tIme of the call they did explain their rates and charges up front, Within 40 minutes there was a crew on the scene I explained the situation to them, they jumped right in starting at the breaker panels tested all of the circuits, checked all of the connections in the panels ( several loose connections were found) and worked their way out to the meter on the house at this point nothing was found since the problem corrected it's self before they arrived, but after all of the checking and testing they could not locate the direct cause however their diagnosis was that it was a phase loss in the incoming power to the house but they did assure me that we were safe and if it happened again to leave it as is and call them right away and they will respond as quick as they can. I applaud the the crew for their professionalism, their quick response their direct approach to the job at hand and the way they addressed my concerns and gave some peace of mind about the issue of fire risk, now they are a little more expensive than most but I would call them again if needed for any job in my home.

They were only two people and we weren't very satisfied with them. They took the fan down and informed us that it needed to be cleaned and cleaned it. It worked fine and charged us for two people; it was 30 minute job. It was very outrageous because they needed two people to do that job. We even asked them about it but then they said it is what it is. They didn't introduce themselves and were not very professional. They didn't remove their shoes or put shoe covers on their shoes. They were late but they did call.

Two certified master electricians arrived at the scheduled time. Crew was courtesy to family, worked in an efficient manner, explained any issues, made recommendations on other needed changes. Crew also provided options (with pros and cons of each) on some of the requested work, e.g. GFCI outlets vs. GFCI breakers. They treated homeowner with respect and fully explained what and why they were doing something.
Description of Work: Replaced all kitchen outlets with GFCI outlets, replaced three standard wall outlets with commercial-grade outlets at my request as they are heavy-use outlets, troubleshot malfunctioning switch in bedroom, relocated outdoor light.

Two man crew arrived exactly on time and performed all requested work in a quality, timely manner. Crew lead explained all work before executing, made suggestions on other needed upgrades. They a bit expensive, but I think the quality of work was worth the extra money.
