Basset Construction

Contracted with Mike Brown (Basset Construction) on 07/16/12 to construct a 2 ½ car garage on my property. The stated time of construction in the contract was to be 4 weeks. Paid $8,000 at the time the contract was signed so that materials to begin the project could be purchased. Once the hillside had been excavated and footers had been poured, I was asked to pay the 2nd draw of $9,500 even though the block material had not been delivered to the site yet as specified in the contract. I paid the second draw of $9,500, and the block was delivered about two weeks later. The block was used by a secondary contractor who had several issues with constructing the walls correctly, but neither he or I could reach Mr. Brown. In the last 8+ weeks, workers have been on site during only 3 different days. Multiple attempts to reach Mr. Brown over this time period, over 15 voicemails, go unreturned, and he never answers his phone. I actually saw Mr. Brown at another unfinished construction site of his in my neighborhood as he was putting tools in his truck, and was told that workers would be at my garage site on 10/9, or 10/10 to start framing the roof out. As of 10/18, they still have not shown up. Called and left addition voice mails for Mr. Brown asking when work would commence again. No return calls or activity on the garage. Update: As of April 2013, still no further work completed on the garage. I have filed a complaint case with the WV Attorney General's Office, and am hoping they can assist.
