We had Arnold Construction (Scott) install a deck and the REALLY annoying thing is that as much as we like the deck we really couldn't recommend him or Arnold Construction to anyone (maybe someone we didn't like?!) Scott was late starting, late finishing and the saving grace was that he effectively sub-contracted the hard parts of the job to another local company (Monster Decks) who were GREAT. Scott himself dug the footings etc (when the company owner is relegated to digging holes it should flag to you something is wrong). He then got the others to do the tricky work. Once the job started we were happy enough but he continually over-promised and under-delivered in terms of a completion date. We have to ring several times to get the job started and finally (weeks later) had to threaten him with cancellation before he finally turned up. My guess, he double books and then tries to juggle things. I work from home and was able to watch the whole thing come together which was interesting. On several occasions I noticed corners being cut in terms of finish. I had to repeatedly ask for things to be fixed where they had split wood or left nails sticking out etc. Every time I pointed something out they fixed it but I had the feeling that if I wasn't there the deck would look a lot different. When things REALLY got bad is when the job was almost finished. Getting him back out to actually finish things you are unhappy with is nigh on impossible. Once he has payment you wont see him again. He was supposed to get all permits and didn't. I called him every few days and he didn't return ANY call. Read the other review on here, same thing. Once he has left site you WON'T see him back again. We ended up having to deal with Jefferson County for the next 6 months thanks to his inability to take care of the permit and early got a fine to cap off the experience. In short, deal with Monster Decks who provided us a solid deck with roof. Scott at Arnold Construction is a nice guy who should NOT be running a business.
Description of Work: Design and install a two level deck including covered area with roof/shingles to match the main house.

At the end of February 2011, my husband contacted Arnold Construction Technologies, LLC for an estimate to have the shingles on our roof replaced. On February 22, the owner of the company replied with an estimate. We agreed to have him do the job and around March 18, his crew came to do the job. Not only did their truck damage the edge of our driveway, but the hydraulic line busted and oil went into our front yard causing the grass to die. My husband contacted Scott (the owner) and he agreed someone would be out to fix the driveway and lawn and to pick up all of the nails and debris from the job on March 20. No one ever showed or called us to let us know that they would not be coming to finish their job. We followed up with him on March 28 and he didn't reply until March 30 saying he was out of town and was under the impression that his crew had fixed it. He said he figured he would have to come fix it himself. A couple weeks went by and again had not heard from him, so we followed up with him on April 13. He did finally come to take care of the damages to the driveway and yard, but my husband had to pick up all of the nails from the yard. On May 22, my husband sent Scott and e-mail because our neighbor noticed that there were old shingles on one part of the roof that they had missed when they replaced the other ones. Scott said someone would be out to repair on June 2 and again no one came or called to let us know they wouldn't be coming. They did finally replace the missed shingles at their convenience. On December 9, my husband had to contact Scott again because our roof started leaking because the did not properly lay the shingles on one area of the roof. We never heard back from Scott. Both of us called him at least 20 times and left message after message with no reply. So my husband had to finish the job.
Description of Work: Arnold Construction replaced the shingles on my roof.
