DEHLING-VOIGT INC

We had this company install new shingles and flashing 8 years ago and we have had several occasions where we have had to recontact them due to subpar work, work which was paid for that was not completed or found problems with their work by other companies. First was the estimate itself. Someone came out and gave us a quote from the ground. We agreed and then someone came out and actually got on the roof to find out other things needed to be done and increased the price by $10,000. Then came the issue with the chimney. We had a chimney sweeper come out and found the company never put flashing around the chimney (which we paid for). They did come out after having a difficult time reaching them, but have now been told by a third party roofing company they are concerned the flashing job was not done correctly and there may be future leaking in the area. There have also been shingles found on ground and had to have them put back on to find out they were never nailed down but glued, leaking around vent pipe into our bathroom wall due to the not installing the flashing correctly and the guy coming out and “fixing” it by caulking it. They also were paid to put leaf guards up and had to call them out because of overflow to find out birds were able to get in them and nest. Each time it has been multiple calls by myself and my husband to get a response. The worst though is most recent. I noticed water coming into our great room on a Saturday afternoon, July 18th, and called their emergency number. To this day I never heard back from them. I also called on Sept. 15 asking for management and have yet to receive a call. After several tries my husband spoke to a woman who screens the calls and a young man came out to look. Stated it was due to something other than the company’s work, never actually going on roof or coming in the house to look at water damage. I informed him we had a couple other companies out and they believed it had something to do with the flashing. He actually told me I was wrong in a very rude tone. My husband has attempted to contact the company since as we have pictures of where the problems are/were and the woman my husband spoke to stated she would have a manager contact him. It has been almost a month again without word from anyone. We have been dealing with this now for 12 weeks and the third party roofing company we had come out to inspect the roof found several areas where there were problems with the shingles and in one area where they believe water was coming in where there was no shingle. It rained yesterday, October 12th, and found water coming in. The company came out and Saw the leakage, went in attic, saw where it was coming from and went into roof. They found up by flashing whoever completed that area when putting on new roof 8 years ago did it incorrectly. The worker (with 30 years experience) stated Face nailed and caulked the area when they really should have put metal flashing. As he stated they “bandaid” the area for now by nailing it correctly and using cement to keep it in place. My husband called Dehling and Voigt again yesterday. I’m actually curious if the owner of the company is aware of the behavior and actions of their employees and who this Barb is who oversees the calls and decides if management is notified. My suggestion to anyone looking for roofing work look elsewhere! Curious about the 5stars ratings and if it’s actually someone who had work done by this company?

The work was done well by a professional crew. I was pleased with the work and would highly recommend Dehling Voigt for roofing and gutter work.

Because our job wasn't an emergency, and the weather was rainy, it took a while for them to get to us. However, once started, the roof was completed in 2 days. The new gutters went on in October and we weren't billed until the whole job was completed. I would have liked everything completed a little earlier, but I'm very satisfied with both the price we paid and the results.

Neal did a wonderful job explaining what needed to be done and was very detailed in the contract for my roof. The workers were great and did a thorough job removing and cleaning up after the project was done. I used Dehling-Voight to replace the siding on the house in 2005 and also for previous work on another part of the roof in 2005. I was pleased with their work and the prices at the time and that is why I used them again. The only reason I gave them a less than perfect review was due to the slow response from the office staff. I had to call more than once to set up an appointment. I didn't expect someone to come out right away but I did count on someone calling me back in a timely manner. The person answering the phone almost lost the roofing project for this company. I would have called another roofer if I had not had previous work done by Dehling-Voight. I was also interested in having replacement windows installed. I went with a different company who came out Immediately and gave me a quote while I was waiting for Dehling-Voight. In conclusion...I would use Dehling-Voight in the future and recommend this company to friends and neighbors. I would just suggest that you be persistent with office personnel and call back as necessary.

Had an estimate first and he spent lots of time talking to me about my concerns and looked over all very thoroughly. He was very timely with the work, called to give me updates because he felt he was taking too long to find piece needed to make repair of molding near gutter. Worked with my tight schedule to get job done prior to my schedule for having house painted. Feel like I will only hire this company for any roof work.

We've used DV in the past, and been satisfied with the work in every case. Their estimates are far more detailed than other roofing companies that I have asked to pitch for this business, and they really know their stuff. Their prices are a little higher, but that's not really a fair comparison because you get more with their approach -- when I quizzed other companies that had submitted lower bids, I found out that they were not going to do everything that DV was going to do. So taking that into account, the higher price is worth it. They were able to schedule the work to finish before the cold weather, and the end result is attractive and solid. The roofing crew dove in to their work, started ridiculously early each day they were here and worked hard all day. They were also good at cleaning up after themselves -- so far I haven't found any runaway nails. In addition to this job, they've done very small roof repairs at my previous house and very large repairs at my parents' church, and they seem to give the tiny jobs as much importance as the big jobs. In any case, I've had decent experiences with DV, and would be comfortable hiring them again. The reasons for a B instead of an A rating: they're a little vague on when they will show up -- there was a lot of and quot;maybe next weekand quot; going on, which was tolerable since my roof wasn't leaking. And the price was on the high side -- though of course I know I received a better product with DV than I would have with the other roofers who were not going to provide as much underlayment, as high quality a shingle, or as strong a warranty.

We had help in selecting the right material for our roof. They are a very reputable company. They have some very good workers. I was very impressed by the company. The tar left our outdoor furniture all black, and they cleaned the cushions for us.

Turns out they lied to us, and didn't even remove the old flashing (We found this out in 2011) In the spring of 2006, we discovered that the leak was not fixed. And not only that, it was worse than before we had the work done. We called Dehling-Voigt in April 2006 to let them know it was leaking. They came out and inspected it and said the flashing looked great - it was not the flashing that was the problem. Then they proceeded to sell us more work: sealing the chimney and installing a new chimney flue cap. According to another contractor who came out in 2011, all it appeared that they did was caulk around the flashing -- all this probably did was to keep water out for about a year. We noted water coming in again at some point three or so years ago Right now, we have a bucket in the attic collecting water until we have it fixed by a more reputable outfit. Bottom line is that they do shoddy work, they don't stand behind their work,they have bad customer service, and they are deceptive. Stay away from Dehling-Voigt.

They promise, They don't show up, They don't call back. I signed an estimate, authorizing work to be done.

We had used them before, about 30 years ago to put a new roof when we first moved in to this house. We called them back because we had good experience with them before. They were really good and spotted some things that were wrong. They corrected them right away when we gave our approval. There have been no problems with the roof now that I have had it for a couple of years. I would use them again if needed.

I was told the estimator would call within 10 days to set up an appointment. The estimator never called.

I have contracted with a different company that was very responsive.

Previous owner of home had built a wood deck on top of the flat-roof garage. After about 10 years the roof began to leak, several patches/fixes were tried each year without success. Problem got so bad I had icicles inside the garage in winter! This year was finally the time to replace both the deck and roof and I wanted it done right. Investigated many roofing companies and products for flat roofs. Many had significantly cheaper rubber/vinyl roofing solutions but wouldn't warranty the job if a deck was going to be built on top. Dand V was the high bidder, but the only one who would install a commercial grade product on a small residential job. Start of job was delayed because desired roof color (tan) was unavailable from manufacturer. Dand V had remnant (white) from previous job and would knock $$ off job if used. Dand V had roof installed in 3 days with no issues. Dand V came back upon request during deck construction to cut out part of roof curb and reseal seams to accommodate deck stairway.

Dehling Voight had done other work for us before. Their bid for the roof was not the lowest, but the only one which gave details and several options. The work was done as promptly as the weather allowed and was very good.

DEHLING VOIGT RECEIVES AN A+. WE WERE IMPRESSED BY THEIR REPRESENTATIVES KNOWLEDGE, PROFESSIONALISM AND LEANING TOWARD QUALITY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP. MR. HOFSCHULTE BENT OVER BACKWARDS TO MEET WITH US AT OUR CONVENIENCE. AT THE END OF EACH DAY THE PROPERTY WAS LEFT NEAT. THEIR EMPLOYEES WERE FRIENDLY AND ANSWERED QUESTIONS WE HAD. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.

FINALLY AFTER A PHONE CALL TO THE OFFICES OF DEHLING VOIGT TO SPEAK WITH OUR REP'S SUPERIORS, OUR SIDING GOT REPAIRED. THE SECRETARY SAID NO ONE WAS IN THE OFFICE AND WOULD LEAVE A MESSAGE. I WAS NEVER CALLED BACK, THE SCAFFOLDING CREW JUST SHOWED UP, SET UP SCAFFOLDING AND SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHEN THE REPAIR WOULD BE DONE. THE CARPENTER CAME THE FOLLOWING DAY. I WAS NEVER CONTACTED BY THESE PEOPLE AND THE WORK WAS DONE ONLY UPON THREAT OF VOIDING THE CONTRACT AND CONTACTING THE SUPERIORS OF THE SALES PERSON, DONE THROUGH THE OFFICE SECRETARY. THIS IS AMAZING TO ME. I AM WAITING FOR A BILLING AT THIS POINT TO SEE HOW MUCH MORE THEY WILL CHARGE. I WILL NEVER USE DEHLING VOIGT FOR ANYTHING!

I HAD A LARGE ATTIC FAN INSTALLED IN THE SUMMER BY SOMEONE ELSE. DEHLING-VOIGT FOUND THAT IT WAS NOT SEALED PROPERLY AND WAS CAUSING THE LEAK. THEY PATCHED IT AND NOW IT IS REPAIRED. THROUGH ALL OF THE RAIN, THERE HAS NOT BEEN ONE LEAK. I TRUST THEM. I HAVE HAD GOOD EXPERIENCES ALL THREE TIMES I HAVE USED THEM. THEY ARE VERY NICE AND PERSONABLE. THE PRICE WAS GOOD.

Installed incorrect window. They had to come back and the second installation was put in out of level and they left it for the siders to correct and the siders just sided around it and did not the correct the problem. The gutters they installed leaked and I called them several times to have them fix it and they didn't respond. There were a number of other small things that I called them to check on and they never came back and I had to hire someone else.

THEIR PRICES WERE COMPETITIVE. THEY DID A GOOD JOB BUT THEY DIDNT NOTIFY ME BEFORE THEY CAME OUT.

MY ONLY COMPLAINT WAS THAT IT TOOK 8 WEEKS TO GET THE REPAIRMAN OVER TO THE HOUSE TO GET THE WORK DONE. IN THE MEANTIME, MAYBE 6-8 TELEPHONE CALLS WERE EXCHANGED, SO IT SEEMED LIKE I NEEDED TO BUG THEM A BIT TO GET GOING ON THE PROJECT. THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATOR (TOM GRIPPENTROG) HAD TOLD ME WHEN HE DID THE ESTIMATE THAT IT COULD BE DONE WITHIN A MONTH. SO IT DRAGGED OUT A BIT, BUT NOT A REAL BIG DEAL. THE QUALITY OF THE WORK APPEARS TO BE VERY, VERY GOOD. THE REPAIRMAN WORKED VERY HARD IN HIGH HEAT. HE EVEN MADE A TRIP TO A SIDING DISTRIBUTOR AND PICKED UP A FEW PIECES OF SIDING THAT THEY WOULDNT SELL TO ME BECAUSE I WASNT A CONTRACTOR. ONLY TIME WILL TELL, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THE QUALITY OF THE WORK WAS A+.
