An e-mail was sent to the contractor to set up services. The contractor took a long time to respond saying he had been swamped with calls. Then after the job was described I never heard from him again. Today I just noticed there had been a message sent to the message post on Angie's that the contractor said he was incorrectly listed by Angie's List and did not do handy man work. He should have notified the people who paid for his service and offered a refund.

1) Leaf Gutter: contractor did not have insurance to complete the job on a two story house. Talked to vendor in Dec. 2013 stated that he would have adequate insurance in 2014. Contacted in late winter 2014 to set up work date, but the work never happened. It is now summer and I did the work myself. 2) Painter: Never completed the work. Never intended on completing work. Had to sit through his rant about how Angie's List "screwed" him over. I completed the work myself.

Not good. The provider would not perform the services that I purchased and blamed everything on a bad deal with Angie's list. I was never given the services that I purchased. I would like a refund of my $100 from Angie's list.
Description of Work: Nothing and that was the problem. I originally had the service scheduled for December 2013. The provider called me and cancelled a day or two before saying he had to have surgery. He said that we could reschedule. Upon calling him in March of 2014 he complained that he wasn't being paid enough by Angie's list and that he was losing money on the deal. He basically said that he would no longer honor the Angie's list deal that I purchased.

Tom was very friendly, honest, and hard working. Our bathroom skylight looks wonderful. He was professional and was able to start the job right away and finished it quickly. He had great communication with us and appreciate the attention to detail he had. We plan to hire him again in the future for other home improvement projects.

Tom Raymond was not prepared for the phone calls he received and complained about Angie's list to us. I was able to get a hold of Tom in the beginning but was always told to call him back at a future date. When I finally gave up attempting to reach Tom, I had left over 4 voice mail messages with no return calls. We are not upset with Angie's list, just the Service Provide Tom Raymond.

Thomas' communication skills are non-existent. He will text on occasion but never respond to your texts. He will email on occasion but never respond to your emails. He claims he is computer illiterate despite having a smart phone. He isn't any better in person; he doesn't listen and he misinterprets everything. Thomas's professionalism is also non-existent. He complains about current customers he is working for. He is clueless to how unprofessional this is. And he's clueless to what it says about his character; if he'll complain about someone else he'll complain about me. He's negative, pessimistic and slow. Everything is "hard." I prefer the phrase "time consuming." It's a difference in mentality; depressive negative people see the world as a big pain in the a**; go-getters say "it'll take three hours but it'll get done and get done right!" Thomas is most definitely an Eeyore. Thomas left in the middle of the project to get materials at Home Depot. He was gone for approximately two hours...and he billed me for that time. I paid. That's my fault for not having said up front "If you need materials give me a full and comprehensive punch list. I'll get the items at Home Depot. They'll be waiting for you when you begin the job." Considering Home Depot is only 10 minutes away and the materials could be procurred quickly at HD I question the amount of time he took. That's my fault for giving him the opportunity to pad his bill. Lesson learned; picking up the list of materials guarantees I'm only billed from the moment the contractor pulls into my driveway to the moment they pull out. Thomas never finished the project. He finished about 50% and reached a natural stopping point. I don't blame him for that. But he was then so difficult to reach for two weeks that my wife and I finished the project on our own. And in doing so we discovered how easy the work was and how Thomas is prone to exaggeration. Against my better judgement I had him bid on upgrading the electrical in my garage. I assumed that because my garage is unfinished it would be a simple project. He confirmed that it was. But I foolishly ignored that the project is irrelevant if you've hired the wrong person. He brought in a friend to make sure the project would be done to code. Then, he proceeded to change start times on me, not get me a punch list in advance (I'd learned my lesson and was determined to force him to do this the right way), wanted to show up and start work without the punch list, texted me (but wouldn't respond to my text), called me (but wouldn't respond to my phone call) and then found a way to misunderstand the clearest and most basic of instructions. I finally wised up. I fired him even though it puts my project behind schedule. Life is far, far too short to let these kind of toxic people into your world. Run, don't walk, away from Thomas Raymond.
Description of Work: Thomas Raymond was supposed to close out two old electrical sockets, move a third, patch/plaster/texture the holes and retexture a wall.

Thomas painted a two story front hall that required plaster work to repair cracks. I purchased this deal because he advertised expertise in both painting and plaster repair. He assessed my issues accurately (cold air was causing the skim coat of the plaster to crack) and chose 'mud' to best accommodate the problem. This was much more than a four hour job-but his hourly rate was reasonable and he got the job done before Christmas.

I had to keep calling to get any type of conversation going. He kept not giving date for service. Our first contact was him saying Angie's List put it under the wrong category so he would not be performing anything other than painting and drywall (the big deal said basically painting or any handyman work). I had a few jobs I wanted done but after he said he could only do painting I said that's fine and he would only be doing that. After having to keep calling to get a date set I finally got him to come out and I thought he was going to do the service but instead he didn't have the right equipment and said he would contact me the following week and as he always said "if I don't contact you, you call me". He of course didn't call and so I contacted him with no info on any progress of getting the right equipment. I kept calling and he kept telling me to call tomorrow. I finally left a message that said if I don't hear back I will be asking for a refund. I have still not heard from him. I looked at my call log and I have called him 11 times. I just want a refund because this has been a complete waste of my time.

Tom was great. After I called and left a message to schedule an appointment he returned my call the same day. We set up a date and time (I was pleased that it was made within less than a week since I purchased the Big Deal and knew he had a lot of jobs to do) for him to paint the interior. With the 10' plus ceiling and the depth and intricacy of the moulding he predicted it would take 8-10 hours. I purchased the primer and paint and he supplied all the equipment (extension ladder, drop cloths, painting supplies). He got right to work and I was impressed with how much he was getting done. He covered the large pieces of furniture we could not easily remove and used drop cloths on the floor, and taped off the edges (properly using tape for wallpaper). His estimate was right on - the job took him 8 hours and I'm really happy with the work. He was a pleasure to work with and I would use him again.

Tom did a great job, it took a little longer then he anticipated due to finding more damage on the ceiling then anticipated. I was not charged more for the additional time it took. Tom communicated with me on everything, he contacted me either at night or in the morning on any schedule changes and worked with me to keep things on budget. Every day that Tom was at the house, he cleaned up after himself and there was never a mess for me. I would highly recommend him to others and will also work with him again on future projects.
Description of Work: I had a kitchen ceiling where the plaster came down so Tom came in and drywalled, put up molding around it to make it look nice and painted the ceiling. He also re-installed a new ceiling fan for me. After he did such a great job on that, I asked him to paint my kitchen and back hallway which was an additional $180. He also installed some framework around my kitchen door.

After an initial purchase of the Big Deal the provider offered, I received an email stating that due to the high volume of responses, it was taking extra time to get to everyone. I purchased the deal on 10/29, and have tried 3 times to get in touch with the provider to get a schedule set. It is now 11/23, almost a month later and I have not received one response to my inquiries. I initiated a refund request through Angie's List.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!Tom exceeded our expectations! He is a true professional who believes in doing things the right way (seems to be a rare quality these days). Tom stared by giving a clear estimate of what needed to be done. He could do everything on the exterior for a reasonable quote so we decided to use him. This is where Angie's list really comes in handy! Given the number of fly-by-night painters out there, I don't think we would have ever stumbled across Tom. He's been doing this for a LONG time so we put our trust in his experience and it turned out to be a VERY good experience. After he had the back of the house cleaned and primed and ready to paint, Tom painted some primed cedar plank samples to give us an idea of how the paint would look on the house. He climbed up the ladder and held them up so we could get a feel for what the color would truly look like on the house. One of the samples looked beautiful on the ground - but on the house looked a little more "orange" than tan. Thank goodness he took the time to consult with us on this as the new color choice saved us much grief, time and added expense. Tom also took extra care with the old cedar. It had clearly baked in the sun for years and years. This made priming a real chore. He could have easily slapped on a coat of primer and be done with it. Instead, he continued to prime until the wood was ready to take the paint. Again, this is the RIGHT way to do it and he would have it no other way. Along the way, he found areas that needed more attention. There was a rotted soffit, a rotted piece of window construction, a broken porch rail, and a missing piece of flashing from the roof. He fixed all three for what I'd consider very nominal charges. Also, we had vines growing up one side of the house. Somehow, he got the entire side of the house clean before painting. Not an easy task since the vines had suction cups that leached into the old aluminum siding. During the painting, Tom was also able to work on a few other interior jobs such as installing a new laminate countertop. He also contracted out a new rear door, glass block windows. All was done to perfection! In the end, the house turned out BEAUTIFUL! It's like a new home! If you're thinking about hiring Tom, I can't say enough about his work ethic and quality of workmanship! He's very easy to work and is very respectful. Also, he's not a salesman or pitchman - he'll clearly identify what needs to be done, give you a quote, and the rest is your decision. I will certainly be using him in the future!
Description of Work: Home is a 100yr old, 3000sqft, three story Victorian with three dormers. It's a combination of cedar shake siding and aluminum siding. Exterior has not been touched in many many years. Here's a list of what Tom did: * Pressure washed and hand cleaned entire home * Pressure washed cedar down to bare wood (very thick paint existed) * Primed all of the cedar (several coats) * Painted entire home - two tone palette of white and tan * Primed, painted, and glazed front "Florida Room" windows * Prime and paint two porches * Paint all decorative soffits (very high peaks)

Tom did a fantastic job! We gave him pretty free reign on this job. He understood the architecture and construction and had a good idea of how he wanted to repair the countertop. He meticulously removed the old chrome trim from the existing countertop and integrated it into the new countertop. He also had a little bit of the new countertop left over so he build a floating shelf over a radiator with matching trim. The results were beautiful and a true value for the money spent. Tom's a very skilled professional!
Description of Work: Work was done on the kitchen of a 100 year old Victorian home where Tom was doing some painting. The home had an older countertop that was in major disrepair. Tom installed new laminate countertop with front trim to match the architectural detail of the home.

We live in a two story colonial that was built in the 1960s - Staircase has been an eyesore the last 8 years we've lived here. We worked with a staircase company to rebuild broken treads and update the railing and balusters, but the treads and risers had to be refinished on our own. We worked on this for several hours on a Saturday, only to realize that WE NEEDED SOMEONE WHO KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING to complete this part of our project. Our time could be better utilized doing what we are good at doing. Tom wasn't able to make our 1st appointment, but was extremely professional and called to reschedule. He did show up to do the estimate at our 2nd appointment. He talked me through every step of the job, and what it was going to take to make our stairs look pretty again. He Removed old Finish and stain by hand sanding each step, he conditioned the bare wood to prep for new stain, then, stained, filled holes, primer and painted and poly (several coats) to complete the project. He also taped everything off to keep the project as clean as he could Tom is not happy when the project isn't done to his or the customer's satisfaction. His attention to detail is like none I've never seen. Will definitely call on Tom again.
