+ -1 moreEverything went really well the 6ft. tall retaining wall has been rebuilt, and looks really good. after that i had them do the back patio steps and looks great. I've already called him back to give me an estimate on redoing the front porch to match the back patio steps. like it that much.

+ -1 moreThe job went well Rob and his crew worked hard to get the job done in a timely manner. The put in a full day's work, weather permiting. I was extremely impressed with his work and the results. I had some followup questions a couple of months after the job was completed and he responded very promptly. He stopped by to look at my concerns and I was satisfied with his answers. Rob said that he would come back in spring to see how the plantings come back and will replace some of the ground cover that we lost.
Description of Work: Removed existing evergreens in front of house and concrete sidewalk up to house and around northeast corner. Installed new Rivenstone paver walkway and stoop per plan and paver border for new planting beds. Removed bushes and lillies of the valley on north side and hostas at back of property. Installed lannon steppers through planting area and at north side door. Planted 7 Arbor Vitae at back property line and replanted some of the hostas in designated places. Installed plantings in new beds and covered with shredded mulch. Installed soil and grass seed in place of removed concrete and other areas as needed. Made an 18" swill on north side of house for water runoff.

Description of Work: I hired this company to build a retaining wall along the entire length of my long driveway. I had a new concrete driveway installed prior to installing the retaining wall, so this contractor had to make sure they did not damage my new driveway in the process of building the wall. They did an excellent job.

+ -1 moreWent very well from estimate to finish. Rob was quick to come over to provide the estimate, and started project within a few days after we accepted the quote. Our final bill reflected the quote exactly. Rob and his crew finished the project in 3 1/2 days. They were very careful not to damage yard and other plants near the work area. Always cleaned up the debris before they left and kept us informed each day on the progress. We heartily recommend Spahn Manning!
Description of Work: Paved front walkway and stoop with Unilock pavers. In addition, created 170 sf hardscape area in back of the house with mega arbel pavers and created seating out of old fireplace hearth.

+ -1 moreThey only put about half-effort into the job. They seemed to be competent and all. I wanted them to remove the dirt completely before they started work. They didn't take very much dirt out of the space. They mounded everything up, so the rocks are rolling out over my sidewalk.
Description of Work: I had an area where grass wasn't growing. I wanted them to excavate the dirt and fill it up with gravel.

+ -1 moreThe contractor set up an appointment for 3pm, then called and said 4pm, then called and said he wouldn't be able to make it that day. I said "cancel" the estimate. There are many better contractors on Angies list than someone who can't even keep an appointment. Business must be better than I thought in this economy.

They did what they said they were going to do for the price that they said that they were going to do it. They also did in the time frame specified and I couldn?t ask for more. The price that they charged was excellent. I would definitely use their services in the future too.

The fence we had planned was being questioned by the village of bayside, the village board couldn't agree on what they felt was appropriate or within their guidelines. Spahn/Manning recommended arbor vitae which they had in stock. Two years later the arbor vitae are healthy and growing as is the entire yard.
Description of Work: Installed 'pavers' patio, created several planting areas, full landscaping, several large pines, privacy stand of arbor vitae, lilac bushes, day lilies, rose bushes, steps from back door and patio doors, removed one tree.

+ -1 moreThey were very good and fared quite well against the other three estimates (lowest). We chose to go ahead with the middle bid based on the fact that we chose a wet-set walkway vs dry-set. Additionally, the other landscaper provided drawings that helped us conceptualize things better. Spahn-Manning let us know up front that they do not provide drawings and that was okay with us.
Description of Work: I had Spahn-Manning come out to give an estimate for excavating our deteriorating walkway, construct new dry paver walkway, take down shrubs and re-landscape front and back yards.

+ -1 moreRobb answered the phone immediately. Came over within an hour and quoted the patio. Also gave useful advice regarding another issue (neighbor owned retaining wall). Quoted 4.6.208. Due to rain and previous job work was started 4.18.08 and was finished 4.21.08. Robb and 2 employees installed the patio. They were courteous, polite and efficient. Cleaned up both days. The patio is absolutely beautiful. We were so impressed by Spahn-Manning's work that we had him quote a new retaining wall and accepted the quote. This company is definitely professional and knows the importance of customer service and quality of work.
Description of Work: Installed a new stone 10x10 patio. Also, removed dirt previously dug.

He also was able to install the patio with 2 different shade blocks in a geometric pattern I designed for no additional cost. Two days later I had a beautiful patio. My patio was done with Unilock stones which have a good warranty but I believe he works with other brands or materials.
Description of Work: Installed 14' x 14' Brussels block patio behind 3-season room in back yard.
