I first approached Silver Mist in September 2015. Said I would like to develop a design they could implement in spring. They said fall was a great planting time and would get right on it - they would have a design to me in a week. two weeks later I stopped by, and after the woman remembered who I was, she said, oh how about if I finalize your design tomorrow? I said great. Three weeks later, a "proposal" shows up in the mail! Okay, no big deal, I'm in no hurry. I go down, discuss a few changes, and update the proposal. So it's late October, and she says they still may get to it this fall, and I'm thinking, "no way." So I don't hear anything until it's almost Christmas, and I get a call saying they will be here tomorrow to plant shrubs. Granted there wasn't any snow on the ground, but it's getting a little late. They said, "no problem - its still a great time to plant!" I'm not comfortable - concerned plants would not get established before freezing out - "no problem" I'm told. So the workers show up, and to be honest, they were very hard working and seemed to know what they were doing - only problem was they didn't know what to do. "So where do you want these plants?" I said just follow the "Plan" that they were responsible for preparing. Well, they couldn't because it apparently was inaccurate, and the person who prepared it wasn't available. Well to make a longer story shorter, they plopped all the plants they had in the ground (with a few left over) and spread bark chips everywhere. They explained that some plants would have to be installed in the spring, because they were out of stock (too late in the year - no kidding). When it was all done and snowed on, I went to see them and discuss some concerns. First I wanted guarantees on all plants because I wasn't confident they would live. That was a lengthy argument - "they don't guarantee perennials!" The other point of contention was lawn rutting. They used a skid steer for just about everything and the lawn was all torn up - their response was the contract had nothing in it about lawn repair! By biggest concern was weeds. These beds were absolutely infested with grass and weeds, and they did little if anything to remove this stuff. I asked how they were going to find their shrubs in the spring and what they were going to do about the weeds - oh that was my problem! they said just "do a little weed control - spray some weed killer." Okay, so not wanting to take responsibility for killing their shrubs, I decided to hire them for weed control in the spring. So, it was decided at a meeting in January, they would come in the spring, we would do a full walk through to make sure they planted everything they said they did, finish the plantings they missed in the fall, and they would be responsible for weed control for at least 6 months. Okay, spring comes, I don't hear anything, I call in March, and the response was, "Oh, you want us to do something? Good thing you called, because we don't have you on our schedule. What do you want done?" So, now I think I'm on the schedule. But here it is mid-April, I haven't heard a thing, and the weed beds are thriving. I don't see much if anything in terms of new plantings, and soon they will be strangled out by all the weeds.
