For over 35 years, the skilled craftsmen at Waunakee Remodeling have helped homeowners throughout the Waunakee, WI area transform their homes into beautiful, unique spaces. Planning and developing a remodeling project can be difficult. That’s why we do all the heavy-lifting, and leave the fun part—the finished product—for you.
Additional showroom address:
5960 Odana Rd, Madison, WI 53719.
Throughout the original installation, all of the individual crews were prompt, thorough, accommodating, with attention to detail. The "checkout" process at the end of the extensive job was impressive: we were gived numerous opportunities to give our feedback.
Description of Work: Most recently, we had all new windows, doors, insulation and siding installed by Waunakee. Their professionalism is topnotch. In addition, when we called them with concerns (one of the window panes had a stress fracture), the salesman came out that very day, took the identification info off the pane of glass. Within 2 weeks, the company reinstalled the glass and also took care of two minor issues at the same visit - withou any question. We have used Waunakee for window, roof, gutter, and siding upgrades of two other of our homes - all with the same outstanding service.

We were given a quote for this work in August of 2002. The work was supposed to have been completed in early fall before the weather turned cold. The work was not started until December in freezing temperatures and when windows arrived for a bedroom they had not been measured properly and had to be re-ordered delaying the job even more. Since I was retired I was able to monitor the work that this contractor was doing and as windows were being installed I noticed that fiberglass insulation around the windows was lacking and in one of the bedrooms I could look out and see traffic going by on the street through openings around the windows that had been left without insulation. Only after bringing this to the attention of the crew the next day was insulation added to correct this condition. We also had to have the front door and a large window and side panels removed and replaced because they didn't fit properly and the door rubbed heavily on the frame - again, an inconvenience in very cold weather. After the job was supposedly complete there were number of call backs for door sweeps and adjustments that never should have been necessary if the job had been done properly. We also found that the windows would not seal properly and someone had to come out and adjust the hardware on most of the windows. In September of 2008 we had an energy audit done on the house and it was found that there heat was escaping from around all the windows that Waunakee Remodeling had installed. The person who did the audit asked me if they had foamed around the window and of course I told them that they had poked fiberglass around them and that only after examining the work did they add more fiberglass. He told me that there should have been foam insulation and so I called Waunakee and they did come out and remove all the old fiberglass, apply foam insulation, and replace all the moldings at no charge. Again, this was an inconvenience and wouldn't have been necessary had the job been done properly when the windows were installed. Overall, I was very dissatisfied with the professionalism of the salesperson and the workmanship of the installers. The salesman promised a lot but was short on delivery and the workers neglected to deliver a quality job.
Description of Work: All the windows, doors and glass panels in our 4 bedroom house were replaced with energy efficient .

Installation standards have changed since the time of the initial purchase of these windows in 2002. Low-expanding foam was adopted in 2004 as an additional air sealing and insulating measure in every window we install. There is no excuse for a crew not installing batten insulation at that time. We corrected the problem and even updated the windows to a current installation practice. We certainly stand behind our product and our installation. Even though you may feel that this was intitially a substandard installation, I hope you realize the benefit of working with an established business. The final product should last you for many years to come.

She was even able to point out code issues that would need to be addressed that I would have not been aware of. The provider arrived on time; was professional, clarified the order, etc. in great detail. The product/service is pricey, but we definitely wanted Andersen Renewal Windows. Waunakee Remodeling is the only company in the area with certification to install Andersen Renewal Windows-hence, we were not able to compare prices.

Thank you for sharing your experience and the example of our employees' work. We truly appreciate it! Enjoy the view out of your new bay window and be sure to spread the good word. Thanks again!
We had a fairly bad experience with the company's sales representative. After a month of discussion, we found this company did not offer any ideas or help in design or material concepts. They were not able to provide any graphic aids or drawings. We ended up doing the plans and drawings, doing the design work ourselves and submitted it to them. When it came to contract time, we placed a deposit and then simply did not hear from the company for a period of time. After calling (concerned!) we found the the company did not have our contract, our check , knowledge of who we were and said there was a problem with the sales rep we had dealt with. After we cancelled the missing check and cancelling our contract, we met with the head of Waunakee's sales dept. THey promised to make up for this lapse in any way. What ensued was more waiting and no contact. We are fairly disgusted with this company and we strongly recommend that consumers be careful in dealing with Waunakee Remodeling. We do not think they can deliver adequate customer service and construction planning.

In an attempt to resurrect this project, I met with the homeowners and offered to immediately cancel the contract when notified in the delay due to an absent employee. Our staff provided the homeowners with requested documentation including discussed changes to a very large remodeling project. The homeowners contacted us and stated they were electing to go another direction. I sent them a follow-up letter thanking them for the opportunity to get back in the door. After reading this review, the compassion for the situation that was extended at our meeting was clearly not as sincere as portrayed to me at the time. We have to put down what we carry before we can move ahead. We wish you the best in pursuing this project. Ben Lindberg Sales Manager

We spoke with several providers. Waunakee was not the least expensive but they also weren't the most expensive. Our sales person was clear and honest, unlike others. We had used the "list" previously and knew what to ask. The answers were clear and verifiable. The work has taken long to complete with some errors on the way, e.g., wrong facia color which turned out to be a manufacturer issue. Waunakee has been right there with solutions, at their cost. The roof looks great, more importantly, no leaks. The now correct facia looks great. Only the gutters to go and no reason to believe that will be any different. Given that hundreds of roofs are being replaced due to a massive hail storm we've been treated well and in as timely a way as possible. We will use Waunakee again for other projects.

They did a fantastic job. They were prompt, professional, tidy and trust worthy. We absolutely love the work. We are pretty confident we are going to use them to put siding on our house. Even though we know we could probably use a start up company but we really like them. We got quotes from 6 different places and they had the best estimate. People should not think they are high end in price.

It is an excellent company. I have other work done with them in the past and I have never had any problems with any of it. We had looked at the windows about one year prior, but had to postpone due to the economy. That was the one negative. Our sales person seemed very annoyed that we were postponing. I understand that this was an inconvenience for him but we had work and personal news that made it just not possible to continue at that time. When it came time to get the new windows we gave Wauankee another call. They were very quick to reissue our estimate and help us get the work done ahead of the new EPA lead guidelines, saving us money. The workers were very professional and got the job done one time and cleaned up after themselves.

Overall - I'm very disappointed with Waunakee Remodeling and will not use them for any remodeling project in the future....and here's why. Mike arrived at our house and did a nice job of outlining what they would do (we were looking to have about 2/3rds of our basement finished - wet bar, fireplace, family room, bedroom, bathroom and workout room) and said he would be in touch. Two weeks passed and I followed up with Mike..only got his voicemail...and said I was checking in to see how the quote was coming. I received no email, no call, nothing. Four weeks passed and I called Waunakee Remodeling and asked the receptionist who I could speak to regarding our quote because we hadn't received any communication from Mike. I was then put into the Sales Manager's voicemail. I left the message to say that I would not be going with Waunakee Remodeling due to the lack of communication given by Mike. I would have at least hoped for a call back - something to recognize that this wasn't ok - and another week has gone by and no communication from either Mike or the Sales Rep from Waunakee Remodeling.

Gary, the salesperson was personable and professional throughout our interactions with him. We did a lot of our own research as well and felt quite comfortable with his recommendations. He was great about working within our budget. The installation crew were great as well. They were prompt, professional and did great work. This was all done over two days. When they were mudding the wall after installation, they offered to quickly fill or mud any small areas in the house that needed a touch up, as they had a bit of mudding compound left ocer. (Thanks!) The office personel we spoke to on the phone were also professional and pleasant to work with. Since the installation occured in November, we have obviously not opened & shut the windows much- but they seal well and the external screening looks really good. (An added bonus we hadn't thought of until now, is that it prevents bird strikes during the spring migration- something that plagued us in previous years). This all being said, we do have one minor complaint. Late the last day, as he door was finishing being installed (somewhat complicated framing due to the particulars of our house), it turned out the threshhold needed some additional support beneath it. The installer warned us not to step on it, and said he would be back in a couple of days with some material to finish that last bit of the job. He never came back, we called and reminded twice. Since we were otherwise VERY satisfied with their sevice and responsiveness thus far, we paid the outstanding balance on the bill, trusting them to finish up the 15 minutes of work left. When Gary returned in early December for job follow up, we reminded him again of the missing threshhold support- he promised to be sure it got done. A couple of reminders later, and winter months intervened (probably not wise to do this work in the dead of winter)- it is still NOT DONE. Moral of the story- DON'T PAY until ALL work is done to your satisfaction. We knew better, but thought it such a small matter, and had such a positive experience otherwise, that there would not be a problem.
Description of Work: They did window replacements for 6 double hung windows, pulled an outdated picture window and replaced it with 2 double hung windows and replaced our front door. They added dry wall and new siding below the new two double hungs that replaced the old picture window. Additionally, they gave welcome advice about a few additional windows on prolonging their life instead of replacing them.
They met with me to measure the windows preliminarily. I met with the salesperson. They measured the windows and discussed the different types of trim available. They provided me a written quote, which I compared with another firm just to get another price for approximately equivalent windows. After we decided to go with Waunakee, they set up a person to come over and re-measure the windows for a little bit more accurate measurement before they ordered them. The windows were ordered and it took about 4 weeks for them to get the windows. The windows were custom ordered and they had to do some staining on them. They came over the course of about 4 days and installed them. They installed full replacement windows. They were taken down to the rough opening and they replaced the trim inside and they put aluminum cladding on the exterior around the perimeter of the windows. They have a pretty good reputation. They have good quality products. Andersen replacement windows are what they sell and install. Their price was very competitive compared to one of their competitors that did have a different window brand. For our level of house, their windows seemed appropriate. They were significantly less expensive when compared to another company that supposedly had approximately comparable windows. They had to come back and do some re-caulking and they had to do a little patching of the plaster. I had to call them back to do that instead of them doing that on their own initiative. They were all around very responsive. When they had to come back and do some follow-up work, they were responsive to complete it. They completed the job within the time frame that they were going to do it. They told me initially it was going to take them 8 weeks to do the job, but when we finally contracted them and had the windows done, they cut the time into half. They cleaned up well after themselves. They didn't leave a mess. Their sales people and their project manager and everybody else seemed professional, responsive, and punctual. I have actually hired them since then. In an emergency situation they replaced a gutter on our house very quickly and provided really quick cost effective service in a pinch. I plan on hiring them hopefully this summer to do some additional work. I will and am going to hire them to do some work. Overall, they did a pretty good job.

Roof: as another summer storm approached, I wanted the roof covered to prevent further damage. The young man who arrived fixed the roof leaf with spare parts from the truck in about 20 minutes. The first of three estimates that was not worth the paper it was written on. Porch Ceiling: The house was built in 1908, wood was cut differently then and I knew this. The estimator did say that patching the roof could be a problem and a vinyl product could be used for an addtional $800.00. No mention of replacing the ceiling with wood that would look the same. After checking into the vinyl option, which no one carried and no one said was a good idea, it sagged. Replace the ceiling tiles: The estimate was for replacing 8-10 tiles and paint. The esitmator did not know what he was talking about. The job supervisor said they were innerlocked and you can't replace one or eight. The plasterer said the 8 tiles could not be replaced. Another estimate not worth the paper it was written on. The plasterer suggested that the tiles be plastered over as well as the wall over the stair well at a cost of $500.00 over-estimate. The plasterer did a very good job on the ceiling but left a mess and several nicks in the walls which required me to repaint the stairwell. After a couple of calls to the job supervisor the mess was cleaned up. Job Supervisor: Very nice person but his fall back was that he didn't write the estimates therefore he could not commet on them. I wanted to keep the jobs separate and pay for the roof repairs, get a refund and the figure out the other two jobs. The roof was a separate bid. I could not get a detailed break down of expenses. I did get a statement saying that we had a $750.00 credit on the roofing work. I wanted a refund, because at this point I no longer trusted Wanaukee Remodeling. I also wanted a separate accounting for the plastering work, couldn't get one. After weeks of delays we got a statement in the mail stating that here's what we paid, here are the charges and we will give you a $200.00 credit, account settled. The statement did not offer a break down of prices of labor and materials. To us, it seemed random and convenient to keep our down-payment. Also, the road construction was a problem afterall because the contractors would not come until the street was finished. Very poor communication amongst the estimator, the job supervisor and us.
Description of Work: Start: the estimator was very polite and professional. I was supprised that he was able to estimate the problem with the roof leaking w/o ever going up on the roof. His solution was to replace half the roof at an estimate of $2400. The second job was to remove and replace the porch ceiling. The third job was to replace the ceiling tiles in the stairwell that had water damage. While all of this was going on the street was being resurfaced. The estimator stated that it would not be a problem the contractor would just park in the drive way.

Thank you for telling your story. Your project is one that our consultant thought would be very simple to do, but ended up being a much more involved project due to the character of your home. When trying to tie-in to existing structural components we need to make some assumptions about what is there. Whether it be plaster, wood framing or a channel to fit product into, we were unable to simply patch in the repairs. Clearly this is not something the homeowner was expecting. The road construction did not help the situation. Our apologies to you.
I arranged for a visit. The rep was very knowledgeable, and very aware of some of the problem situations that my place could present. My place is a significantly older home that has had two additions over time. He sounded encouraging, and offered to bring some samples. I expected this to lead to an estimate. I never heard from him again. A few weeks later, I asked a friend, who works at this place, if the rep was still there, due to no response. The rep was. The friend helped me and arranged for a new rep to contact me. The new rep was prompt, even more knowledgeable and also friendly. We reviewed what I wanted now, and left open what we might do in the future. I never heard from him again. The windows, door and roof are being done by someone else. I'll need to find a completely different vendor for the bathroom work.
Description of Work: Initially, to replace all of the windows, a door and possibly some of the roof. I wanted this experience to be a lead-in to some more serious work (bath room remodel or addition, as well as some other repair work).

Fantastic! I had several estimates done and Waunakee was the only one who would quote the full job (18 windows) and the partial job (10 windows). We decided to do the partial job (upstairs and utility room). I went by the store front on Odana and the lady there couldn't be nicer. They set me up with an appointment and the fella that came out had lots of experience in Victorian era homes, like mine and was able to give great advice. We picked out what we wanted and the job was scheduled in November - we signed the contracts in September and they had lots of jobs to schedule. The guys that did the job showed up right on time and worked quiet and clean. They left the floors in the rooms where they worked cleaner than they found them. They finished the job in 2 and half days (right on schedule). I've heard from several folks that they got quotes for work from Waunakee and they thought they were too high. To them I say, you get what you paid for. I got a quote that included all the work, the clean-up, the materials and it was still less than $1000 a window. I will use them again to to do the rest of the windows and exterior doors.
Description of Work: replaced 5 double hung windows upstairs and 5 double hung windows downstairs, with wrapping of exterior frames
