Waunakee Remodeling

Greg came to our house but never followed through on an estimate. I emailed him twice and called back. We never received an estimate or heard back from them.

The work has not yet been completed.

I interviewd 5 roofers in the area and selected Waunakee (they're not the least expensive, roofs are more important than that). At the first meeting I had theconfidence they would do the job well. I signed the contract on June 21 with the understanding they would start in mid-July. Understanding their need to schedule efficiently (and that my job wasn't an emergency) I was not surprized that they didn't start until the end of August. While on site the work teams were amazingly quick. Roofing done in two weeks, gutters in one day, new front door in four hours. Alwayed left the yard in tip-top shape. Easy to work with. The invoice I was handed was not any industry standard, but was correct. 5% remains to be completed. I've waited for five weeks for them to finish (I haven't paid the invoice yet). Salesman took one week to get paperwork to scheduler (if I believe the secretary/scheduler, which I am inclined not to do). I've been promised the work will be done "next week". Now that winter is approaching my nervousness increases. But all in all I tend to trust them based on their work crews' professionalism but not trust then based on their office efficiency/honesty. A former co-worker is a roofer and I had him look at their work. He had a couple minor comments which Waunakee attended to within a week. Having an "independent inspector" who I had faith in was a big comfort. Once I accept that any contracting job will take twice as long as predicted I'd say this job went the best of any large job's I've had done. If time is utmost then I suggest adding liquidated damges to the contract (i.e., done in 4 weeks, afterwhich $100 (or whatever) will be deleted from the contracted cost for the work.)

The estimation process was very pleasant and the employee was very helpful, making suggestions about options we might or might not like on the new windows. He also explained to us the new lead abatement rules (which luckily turned out not to apply; they tested to make sure). The price on the windows wasn't cheap, but we wanted good Andersen windows for the resale value. When the time came to put the windows in, the installers were very organized and good communicators. They called before they showed up and needed exactly as much time as predicted. They cleaned up so well after themselves that I was amazed. Everything turned out beautifully except for one window that seems slightly loose in the frame. We are in touch with them about it and will be making an appointment for followup on that.

After the quote, I contacted the salesman (Jerry?) to get further details (the bid was an overall bid, not broken down by windows) and to see the windows. I was seriously thinking about hiring Waunakee then the salesman started pressuring me, saying a new lead abatement program was being mandated in WI in about 6 weeks (end of April; this is true). He told me I'd have to pay $100 a window more if I did not sign the contract by closing time (a half hour later). The additional cost was a surcharge they would charge after the new law went into place and the only way they could assure me they would get the windows in before was if I signed right then. I asked to think it over until 8 am the next morning and the salesman would not do this. Between the pressure and me being a woman and thinking $100 was a lot for lead abatement on windows on a 1 story ranch house, I didn't sign the contract.

Got a bid promptly. Indicated some wood that needed to be replaced and included it in the quote. Price was fine (better than competitor) so we gave OK to proceed. Then had a terrible time actually getting them to schedule the work. Eventually we were told they might appear Friday or Monday or Tuesday. With no further word from them my wife came home Friday morning and there they were --- replacing gutters. She was surprised ... but glad to see they had finally arrived. But they did not finish everything that day. Said they weren't prepared to do the wood replacement and would need to come back. Then the BAD part began. Their scheduler said we needed to get another quote before they could schedule the finish. Another quote? We didn't understand and weren't happy about it. After all they had looked at the job and already quoted the wood replacement. (It was not as if they had started on the wood work and found something big. This didn't make sense to us.) But the SCHEDULER was NOT HELPFUL. She was a pain to deal with. Finally we got to talk to someone else. Another person contacted us. We were told he had been sent out by the boss to get it finished. So he came out, replaced the wood and installed the gutters. The work was satisfactory and the price was fair. But the SCHEDULER was a real pain. Could not recommend them to anyone so long as she is in the mix.

This job went very well from start to finish. I felt that the installation was done very carefully with both inside and outside insulation between the new windows and existing window surround, and cladding of the old frame. Would recommend them and would use again. Seemed a bit expensive, but I may be behind the times.

They were punctual and very professional. They seemed like they had a good idea of what needed to be done. It was a basic job and nothing complicated. They were rather high in price. I have a feeling that they were very busy and didn't need the work. I think they quoted it high because of that reason. I think they would have done a fine job but they were expensive.

Wonderful experience - Gary is confident in his product knowledge and is the polar opposite of the stereotypical pushy, high pressure salesman.

Excellent staff at all phases of project - helpful, knowledgable, friendly and considerate. Onsite, they were punctual, hard working, and very neat and tidy. Also, the work was very well done.

They came out to give an estimate but they were a bit pricey and we went in another direction. They gentleman that came out was perfectly nice.

The sales representative arrived promptly but advised we would need some very expensive modifications to our deck in order to bring it up to code, e.g. new footings for the deck and a six-foot deep support for a two-step stairway. Those turned out not to be accurate. I felt that sending a salesman to do the estimate resulted in a higher price and more work than was really needed.

Great to work with. Quick meeting with the salesman who was great with our questions, and whose obligatory up-sell offers were gentle and respectful. It took a little longer to install than we wanted, but that wasn't their fault. Installers' courtesy, speed, and cleanliness were excellent. Windows have done us a lot of good so far and look great.

They were great in terms of showing up at the right time. The salesperson gave us a lot of information and was quite friendly and very professional. They don?t sublet the work out. They have got a really good reputation in the area.

They were able to start the job earlier than quoted. It was great and they were done within the deadline that they said they would be done. They also came out and checked the work before we had to pay, which was really nice.

The estimate was quite a bit higher than the others, so I didn't use them. They were very professional. I thought the person was nice and he explained a lot of the things he was thinking in terms of the design.

We received several bids, but they had done our roof about six years ago, so we were quite satisfied with their work.

Waunakee Remodeling was punctual and professional from start to finish. The quoted price was higher than others we received, but this was in part due to the fact that the Anderson door was higher quality than the alternative products. We had requested that the job be done before year end to get the 2009 tax credits, and Waunakee Remodeling worked hard to make that happen. One very small piece of the door didn't initially get proper stain coverage, but then sent someone out to touch it up very promptly after we called. I would definitely use Waunakee Remodeling again.

We believe the price was fair based on the estimates we had. My experience with them has been excellent. They've been responsive and the workers have been cheerful. We have no complaints about them at all. I like the quality of the work, the quality of the workers, and their attention to detail.

Gary Buhler was the salesman who came out to meet with us about the project. He did a great job of explaining the work they would do to replace it and the door options they had, and was even trying to figure out ways that he could just repair the original patio door rather than replace it. But it was clear to us, and eventually to him, that the door was just that bad. Anyway, he is a former installer and I could tell that he knew much more than some other places we talked to. He even offered some helpful advice on our windows which are not ready to be replaced, but need some help so they don't deteriorate faster than they should. He was a no pressure salesman. We placed the order for the door a few weeks later at their showroom. They set up installation about four weeks after that. The installers were very nice and professional. They were done within four hours and left the place very clean. I was worried the paint around the trim might be wrecked, but there was no issue, it looks even better than before. We are so happy with the finished product, but Gary still wants to come out to see the work for himself and make sure everything looks as it should. This was one of the easiest home improvement projects we have ever done, thanks to Waunakee Remodeling!

I contracted Waunakee Remodeling to do a complete remodel of a small bathroom with a small window. I made a downpayment. The project was supposed to begin in early spring. However, the company did not show up to begin the work. I had to call the Supervisor and Manager a number of times to get a response about when my job would begin. At the same time, my parents were having a similar problem with the company: their bathroom was in the midst of a remodel but work was not progressing quickly, resulting in many calls to the company to move their project forward. After many weeks delay, I decided to cancel my contract with the company, because I didn't want to repeat my parents' experience. My job was include a new custom Renewal by Anderson window, and I requested to receive the window and have the cost deducted from my refund. Well, it turns out they hadn't even ordered the window yet. When I finally received the window later in the year, it came with the wrong glass installed. The type of glass I had requested had been discontinued, but no one notified me. Anderson just substituted another type of glass. When I finally received the new new window, the screen had a tear in it. Another delay. The original salesman who put together the contract had left the company before my job was to start. According to the company, management of the project had broken down, and the current supervisor was not getting the job done. To the company's credit one of their sales managers did respond to my cancellation letter with a sincere apology, a timely refund and no charge for the window.

The salesman from Waunakee Remodeling was very experienced and informative. The process went smoothly from start to finish. We had a couple other estimates, but felt better about the experience at Waunakee Remodeling. We were very happy with the results.

We were very pleased with the work and speed that we were back to normal. As it's been nearly 6 years since they did the work, we can say that we have had no complaints.

They rebuilt it and it was absolutely gorgeous. They were very good, but just very expensive. They were very professional and the crew was fantastic and the on site supervisor was literally here all the time. They were great.
