Erick is very focused on quality and doing the job right. He is responsive to concerns and easy to work with, but had some problems meeting schedule commitments. If you want the job done right and have some flexibility in the schedule, I can strongly recommend Kurber Construction.

We've use Kurber Construction since we first moved into our house. They have done everything from small projects to a full basement finishing. I cannot say anything negative about Erick and his company. I would definitely use them again in the future and we plan on it too.

We had a terrible experience with Kurber Construction for our home renovation and I do not recommend using Kurber as your general contractor. During our project, Erick Kurber was dishonest, disorganized, over-promised and under-delivered, and resorted to legal assistance for payment rather than discussing our legitimate concerns regarding double- and over-billing. His unethical behavior and unwillingness to communicate with us ultimately yielded nearly $8,000 of credits off our final payment through a legal settlement. Erick unsuccessfully attempted to manage the general contracting and finance/billing of our full-home renovation and was a complete disaster throughout the entire project. Erick did not adhere to the contract timeline and finished our project 3 months late. We had cameras in our home during the entire project because we weren’t living there. Erick worked at such a slow pace and we couldn’t believe how little was accomplished when he was working. The legal negotiation revealed that he charged $90/hour for his work, which, in my opinion is about $80/hour too much. Communication was extremely poor, and we found Erick to be extremely arrogant. He forgot things he told us and then would tell us he didn’t say them, he’d change his story, or he’d make up things he said in the past. We quickly learned that Erick was always right and always had an answer for everything. Erick did not take accountability for his mistakes. Instead he blamed his hard-working subcontractors who are the only reason our project was ever completed. At the beginning of our project, Erick provided a project estimate. I had an hour phone conversation with him to clarify several parts of the estimate. I took meticulous notes about what was and was not included in the estimate. Curiously, throughout the project, several items that were previously included in the estimate either increased in cost or became extra charges that weren’t included. When I sourced our countertops to save thousands because Erick's cost unsurprisingly increased over his original estimate, he tried charging me his 22% contractor markup for pulling the work from him. He said we discussed paying the markup if any work was pulled at the beginning of the project, however we most definitely did not discuss this. As a Finance professional, there is no way I would 1) agree to pay a markup on work not performed, 2) spend my own time organizing the countertop install if I was still going to pay him a fee, and 3) pay for something not agreed upon in the contract. We needed to install a support post under our I-Beam because we removed a wall. Erick told us we needed to pay for the change order otherwise our house wouldn’t pass code. Erick charged ~$2,700, but according to another contractor who quoted it after we went into the legal negotiation, it should have cost $1,200 max. There are so many more examples that demonstrate how poorly our project went and Erick managed to make every part of it miserable. The service he provided was inadequate and embarrassing. I tried asking Erick to explain his billing where it didn’t make sense via email several times. I asked Erick to meet with me to discuss my concerns several times. He did not agree to speak with me in person--ever. Instead, I got a legal notice advising me that Erick obtained legal representation and that I was to communicate with his lawyer going forward. We are writing this review to warn others about the unscrupulous business practices we experienced during our project with Kurber Construction. We hope that you will think carefully about using Erick Kurber as your general contractor and use our experience as a word of warning. *Please note, this review relates to our project only and represents my husband’s and my opinion.

Expect to pay more than the contract amount. Before signing any papers have a lawyer review the contract.

Once we got the quote it was a little high for and he worked with us get a price we were comfortable with. From there we signed the paperwork and Erick worked with us to immediately set up a time on his schedule. He used a 3rd party site to map out all work being done on which days. This allowed us to track the progress on our bathroom (we had to move out temporary as we didn't have a 2nd bathroom. Everything was done on time and looked amazing. We had a small issue where the hot/cold lines were backwards and we had a small leaked. He came out the next day to fix. He is a constant professional and we plan to use him in future projects.

Erick Kurber is a perfectionist. As are all the people he works with, from electricians to plumbers. He has worked on 3 separate projects over the last two years, and has done a fantastic job. Job 1. Remodel garage. I own a 1950's older ranch style home. I wanted a modern garage for my sports cars. Something finished, drywalled, insulated, painted, with modern cabinets and workspace to service my vehicles. I wanted to increase the lighting with both recessed as well as main fluorescent lighting. Erick accomplished all of this. He was able to demo the previous garage, insulate all the walls, create ceiling with attic space, insulate it, drywall all the walls, install a high insulation garage door, and install high efficiency windows. The floor is now a granite overlay that simulates bluestone tiles, and the modern cabinets are powder coated for durability. Recessed lights, and recessed T8 fluorescent lights were custom placed flush with the ceiling drywall. Appropriate attic vents were placed, and attic access was created. Finally new access door was installed to my car port outside. Beautiful. Incredible job. Job 2. I loved the windows in my garage so much, that I asked him to replace the remaining 7 windows in my house - I went from single pane + storm windows to high efficiency windows. Excellent fit and finish. Perfect fit, finish, trim and caulk. Job 3. Later in the year, I asked Erick to come back and refinish my basement. My basement had a previous DIY finish with glued studs and drywall. Everything was demo'ed. He discovered bowing of the basement walls, which was contracted out for repair. Again, the folks he works with are professional and meticulous. Basement walls were insulated, floor had a granite overlay placed, and a kitchenette area was created. A very clean, modern look for an older Brookfield home. No hesitation to use him again (as I have done so three times already over the last year.) If you are looking for someone to do a quality job on your home, and you have high expectations, Erick Kurber would be an excellent choice.

Our garage was completely non-functioning and he came out and worked on it and it has turned out just great. We liked everything about his work. I have been pleased with the work he has done.
