I was a customer of 1st Choice Heating a Cooling for 10 years or more. They installed a furnace in my prior home and just under 3 years ago installed an a/c unit in my current home. Had great service from them up until my most recent interaction. My a/c unit has a 10 year parts warranty and a 1 year labor warranty. The condenser fan motor went out. The part is 100% covered but the labor is not covered. I was charged $160 for a trip/diagnostics fee, then the quote for labor was just over $900. I was able to negotiate the labor down to $650 which is still extremely high given the repair took less than an hour to complete. Price gouging their customers by including filing fees and processing fees in with the labor fee for repairs where the parts are covered and labor is not. The owner was rude and condescending in his communications through the BBB. Claimed I was the problem since maintenance wasn’t done on my 2 year 10 month old a/c unit. I would not recommend 1st Choice Heating & Cooling.
Description of Work: Replace condensor fan motor.

Outstanding service! First of all, my technician was right on time for the service call, which is much better than some of the other businesses I’ve used in the past.I was thoroughly impressed by his knowledge and efficiency. He quickly pinpointed the problem and sourced the part I needed. I would rate First Choice 6 stars if I could! I definitely recommend to anyone in need of quick, honest service!!

This was the year my old klunker (furnace) decided to stop working. Great, just wonderful. So I picked up the phone and made a call to 1st Choice Heating. They had a technician dispatched faster than I expected. The news was not good,I needed a new furnace. I was quickly put on the schedule and my furnace was in before I knew it. Thanks 1st Choice team you were awesome from the first call to the install!!!

They replaced both my furnace and air conditioner (coil and outside unit), removed and disposed of my old units, installed a whole house humidifier, and cleaned my ductwork. They were very professional and personable, and completed everything but the ductwork cleaning in one day. I wasn't able to be home for the entire project, but they raised and leveled the new air conditioning unit as I requested, and explained the functioning of the wi-fi thermostat before I left, and all the installation areas were clean when I came home. They completed the ductwork cleaning on a different date, and this service was also done very well. My only concerns or "complaints" would be that they used clean rounded stone beneath the air conditioning unit and I'm not convinced that it won't shift or settle over time; and they removed a vent that supplied heat to the basement so now the basement is very cold.

I called for service and appointment was for the next day. Service person showed up on time. The problem was found (bad micro switch) and a zone valve motor/actuator was replaced. The whole process was completed in 30 minutes. They give senior citizens a discount. Yea! I would use them again for other problems or maintenance.

I am a VERY UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER. Installation was not correct and had to come back and patch it up. Every time seasonal service/maintenance was performed on unit, tech was told unit was too loud and performance was poor. Neighbor had same unit installed by same company and it is effecient and quiet. In Fall of 2013 we had no heat. Circuit board was burned up and blower motor burned up. Replaced under warranty with us having to pay labor. Now summer of 2014 we have no AC. Unit very loud when AC kicks on , unit froze up like an ice cube, and no AC. 1st Choice tells us we need to have the unit pulled and taken to their office for repair and cost could be $750 labor !! They called the distributor and told them they feel we have a defective unit. 1st Choice says they have installed many of these units and have had no problem The distributor, Monroe Equipment in Waukesha will not back them up on this. Therefore 1st Choice says there is nothing they can do. I obviously got a lemon!! Now 1st Choice told ME to contact the manufacturer !!! If you buy a car that is a lemon are you told to go to the manufacturer??? No, the dealer does their job, stands behind their product, and makes it right. 1st Choice Heating and Cooling advertises that they believe in Complete Customer Satisfaction. I AM A VERY UNSATISIED CUSTOMER that paid $3500 for a furnace/AC and it is a lemon and no one will make it right!! I dont feel I should have to pay big bucks to have this lemon fixed. Contacted the manufacturer . Got a response on 7/2/14 from ALLIED AIR Enterprises in South Carolina. They will do NOTHING. I continue to be a VERY UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER of 1ST CHOICE HEATING AND COOLING OF WAUKESHA WI

Response from 1st Choice Heating & Cooling
This customer signed a contract in March 2011 for 1st Choice to install his equipment. We did not build or manufacture this equipment. His contract clearly stated the warranty terms, 1 year labor, 5 yrs. parts & 20 year heat exchanger warranty. His system ran for all of 2011 with no problems. We performed maintenance in 2012 and the unit was operating per manufacturer specifications. We performed maintenance in 2013 and our technician found a heating issue. We replaced a motor & board, the parts were covered under warranty and customer was responsible for labor. As a customer service we only charged customer $50 labor for both repairs (he didn't want to pay any labor) when he should have paid between $125-$225. Customer was unhappy with having to pay any labor and insisted on distributor name & phone # so he could get reimbursed for the labor. Customer called June 2014 for no cooling service call....tech found a leak in the coil and told customer charges would be anywhere between $600-$900 for labor, refrigerant & solder (not covered under warranty). There has not been the same or ongoing problem with the system...these are two separate incidents, one for heat and one for cooling. The distributor indicated that there was nothing they or the factory could do because labor warranty had expired. We gave the customer the phone number for factory but he refused it. Even though the distributor and factory told him they wouldn't do anything, 1st Choice, again, offered to give customer a discounted rate on labor/refrigerant and solder but he still refused the offer saying he wasn't paying for anything. We have maintained our end of the contract that the customer signed (he signed knowing what the warranty terms were) even going beyond, by discounting the labor on his repair in 2013. We have offered to discount this repair as well, which shows that we are all about customer satisfaction and are willing to help our customers within reason.

The receptionist that took my information was very friendly but definitely should be instructed to tell people about the diagnosis charge.
Description of Work: Contacted 1st Choice heating and cooling, Inc. to have a rental until air conditioner serviced. I chose this company because of the close proximity to the property needing work. I told the very nice receptionist that I had a tenant who thought their air conditioning unit may be malfunctioning. I was NOT told on the phone that there is a $120.00 minimum diagnosis charge. Seeing as this company is two minutes away from the apartment I would have NEVER agreed to this charge. The air conditioning unit was working fine and the service tech did not have to repair anything. I was then given a bill for $126.12 for the 2 minute trip(literally) to say my air conditioner is not broken. I strongly feel that it should be Stressed on the phone when setting up the appointment that there is going to be a minimum charge especially because of the amount!

They did a fantastic job. It was a redo of the whole ac system. This guy did a great job. By the way with going with the zone heating my electric dropped in half this year. I would use them again.

We asked to be contacted by this firm after meeting them at the Fall Home Show at State Fair Park. They sent Lynn Wieckowski, Comfort Specialist, to our home in October, 2011. She was nice enough, and when I told her of my concern because my research had told me that a furnace is only as good as the installers, she assured me that and quot;the people who install for our company are of the highest standards and have many years of experienceand quot;. To our misfortune we soon found this to be, well... not correct. The installers arrived in October, 2011, after installing the new Goodman furnace, showing us the information, they packed up and left. I was told by Ms. Wieckowski that their installers and quot;will clean up the area after the installand quot; (it even states this by Gus Gnorski on their phone message when they put your phone call on hold). Wrong, there was dust all over, even on my washer and dryer, plastic shavings all over the floor, the place was a mess. Then few days later I hear a banging when I am doing the laundry. I go downstairs look up at our water pipes and see that the installers have laid both pipes from the furnace on our water lines and each time the washer used water the pipes banged together! Are you kidding I thought, even I know you don't lay one pipe on another!! I called and they sent a service man out the next Friday, all he did was wrap rubber couplings around the vent pipes, and when I asked and quot;should these pipes be resting on my water pipes?and quot;, he told me and quot;everything was fine nowand quot; and left. Well, the very next day, Saturday, the furnace was sputtering, banging and spitting water all over the floor and there was no heat!! I called AGAIN and they sent a different service guy out to fix the problem, he took off the cover of the furnace, removed the cover from blower motor and literally poured out water from it. He told us our installation for the exhaust piping for the furnace was wrong and the wet exhaust was backing up into the furnace because there was incorrect slope, in fact, the slope was wrong on both furnace pipes! He showed us where the old pipe hangers were pulled away from the floor joist and hanging there not being used. They didn't bother to use new hangers or even try to use the old ones! So much for the promise of and quot;experienced installers!!and quot; He propped up the exhaust pipe and told us an installer would need to come out again. When I talked to the scheduler I told the person and quot;I was very nervous about this furnace and it's improper vent installation, could they send someone as soon as possible?and quot; They were unconcerned and it took two weeks to get yet another installer to our house. He rehung both furnace pipes and told us and quot;I guess I will need to get a hold of the other guys and show them how to hang pipesand quot; I said to the installer and quot;that our furnace had, a few days earlier, started to literally moan when the blower started up and even bang and could this be because of the water he just removed from it?and quot; He thought this was something that would stop in a short time, and quot;you know, things wearing inand quot; he said. I told him and quot;it did not do this before this last problemand quot;, he did not seem concerned at all. He left me and my moaning furnace alone in the basement busily sweeping up another mess left behind. I waited to write this report in hopes the noise would stop, one less thing to gripe about, but I guess it's going to take a REALLY long time for our furnace to and quot;wear inand quot;. It still literally moans when the blower starts up and the and quot;bangand quot; at times is quite loud. We're trying to think of them as comforting noises, you know, like the furnace is letting us know it's still doing it's job down there! So, all-in-all, we got to meet a lot of the company's service people, clean our basement up twice, and spend money on a noisy furnace. I am thinking that this furnace will probably not last the amount of years it should, since it ended up filled with water which resulted in it's moaning and banging. So I send my and quot;thanks a lotand quot; to the people at 1st Choice Heating and Cooling and their and quot;experienced installers with the highest of standardsand quot; ????? FOLLOW-UP FROM THIS COMPANY: After reading our review and giving us a call, two people from the company, a service tech and the owner/president of the company, came to our home on March 20, 2012 to inspect the furnace and discuss what had happened. They spoke with my husband and were pleasant and very concerned about our experience, and assured him that this has never happened before. They discussed what had gone wrong and apologised very sincerely. My husband explained the furnace makes the noise when it has been running on a consistent basis, but it had not been running for well over a week due to the warm weather, so he wasn't sure if it would make the noise, and it didn't. The tech inspected everything, tightened the blower motor housing screws and declared all to be fine, but said we should call if any noise starts up again. On March 31st a letter came reiterating the promise of giving us a years extension on our labor warranty and one free furnace tune-up for this coming Fall. The gentlemen who came were very nice and sincerely concerned about our experience and the furnace. Now that the furnace is running consistently again the moaning is still with us but the banging is gone, which is nice. We feel they did all they could while here to help with the furnace, which we truly do appreciate.
Description of Work: Removal of old furnace and installation of new Goodman furnace. Follow-up Note: After reading our review two people from the company came to our home to discuss what happened to us and to check out our furnace. Please see results below.

They were friendly and courteous and timely. They completed the job in a professional, thorough and efficient manner. Completed installation looks very professional and well finished. New system maintains temperature throughout the house at a more consistent temperature. Sytem installed was 95% efficient 100,000 BTU gas furnace and 3.5 ton air conditioner for 2,600 square foot, 2 level home with finished basement. New multi-stage system installed is quieter than old system. Contract cost was exactly as stated. $7500 was quoted price; I was eligable for $1500 tax credit due to this project, which resulted in a net cost to me of $6000.
