Description of Work: Called this company on 6/1/2015 to inquire about installing gas logs in a masonry fireplace in Hartland, WI. I was told to measure the firebox and come into their shop to pick out some logs so they could estimate a price for the installation when they visited the home. Took measurements and went to shop, only to find out they have moved to the other side of metro area. I called and they said that someone must have forgot to tell me they had moved. Apparently the calls to the Wales address are forwarded to the location in Milwaukee.

+ 0 moreDidn't get past the first phone call of inquiry. Business must be terrific when they could charge me for doing what is relatively simple (if you are in the business of selling/distributing gas fireplace equipment. American used to charge us $100-$200 per year for this depending on what needed to be done. My spouse doesn't have time for this and I'm not comfortable doing this. Evidently, when I called, I spoke to the Sales Prevention Department. It seemed to work quite well (preventing a sale).
Description of Work: Very frustrating. The company that sold our gas fireplace equipment (conversion of wood burning fireplace to gas) along with the ceramic logs, etc., has gone out of business (American). Genesee will not provide service unless they service the manufacturer of your gas fireplace equipment. We do not know the name of the manufacturer (high end) and Genesee would not provide suggestions on how to identify. Not worth their effort - despite being willing to pay for the services on a regular basis.

But their installer said and quot;...without starting demo and removing the mantel, we really don't know what we are getting into.and quot; They said they were going to pass on this project. They did not come out to my house to take a look.
Description of Work: I wanted my wood burning insert removed and their gas log fireplace insert installed. Code requires that my wood mantle be 35" or more from the hearth, but it's only 34 3/8". The mantle would have to be raised about 3/4".

Description of Work: We visited the store and learned a great deal about gas log conversions as well as replacements for our current fireplace. Charlie was extremely knowledgeable and very attentive to our questions. An estimate was scheduled and all options were explained. Looks like we will select Genesee as the installer to replace our wood fireplace insert with a user friendly gas log option. Looking forward to the same standard of service from the installers.

+ 0 moreWe had a gas line to the fireplace already, so that made the transition easier. Genesee fireplace had some log sets in the showroom, and we chose one we saw there. It has heat radiant logs which give off more heat than other logs, well worth the added cost. They have a very natural look.Genesee Depot made a stop to the house to confirm the size of logs needed for the size fireplace we have, and explained the installation process. The installation was done about a week later and took about an hour. The installer explained how everything worked and made sure I was comfortable lighting it and knew how to maintain it as well. It was a pretty simple process, and was all done very professionally and quickly. I would use Genesee Depot again and would recommend them as well :)

+ -1 moreThe person that came to clean the fireplace laid down a large cloth to keep the hearth and carpeting free of any soot. He did a nice job of cleaning the logs. I did expect the entire floor of the fireplace would be cleaned and the and quot;sandand quot; and substance that would glow would be completely new. That did not happen. Overall a good job; however I would either be more clear with my expectations next time or try someone new.
Description of Work: They cleaned and "freshened up" my gas fireplace.

+ 0 moreWe have been talking about getting a gas insert for our fireplace for several years. It is a nice fireplace, but we haven't used it because of the heat lost through a wood burner - very little heating benefit. We checked a few places and had a couple of estimates over the years. Due to the recommendations in Angie's list, we stopped in at Genesee Fireplace to see what they had to offer. We met with Charles who was very friendly and easy to work with. Once he understood what we wanted, he pointed out both good features and the points that might be of concern for several fireplace inserts. We made an appointment for him to come to the house to see the actual fireplace so that he could give us an accurate estimate. Following his visit, he sent us a written quiote which we accepted. Once the material arrived, we set up an appointment for installation. The experience was very good from start to finish. The showroom is clean and organized. Everyone we worked with was friendly and professional, and appointments were kept on time. We enjoyed doing business with Genesee Fireplace, and we have already recommended them to one of our neighbors. We would definitely use them again if the need arrises.

+ -1 moreThey were flexible in their scheduling, showed up on time and did the work in less than a day. They were also great about minimizing any mess, as we had just had new carpet installed. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We are extremely pleased with the work performed by Genesee Fireplace. They pulled an old fireplace insert and all the chimney pipes and installed a new one all the way up to the vent cover on the chimney outside. I worked with Charlie on the fireplace and Rob on the mantle. Both are very responsive and professional.

Description of Work: I contacted Genesee Fireplace Co on 12/10/2011 and spoke to Rob about replacing the backwall firebrick in my fireplace, he said they do that all the time but they were booked out until 12/30/2011 so I made an appointment for with them to come out on 12/30 between 8 and noon. I was home on the 30th waiting and waiting then about 10:30am I called Genesee Fireplace to see when they may be here. Ginger answered the phone and said I was not on the calendar, I said that I had been waiting 3 weeks and now she is telling me that no one is coming to fix my fireplace. She said she would talk to Rob the next morning and call me but that they were very busy and she was 75% sure that they would not be able to squeeze me in to get my fireplace fixed that it would be another week or so at least. Then Ginger asked me what kind of fireplace it was, I said I had no idea, it was a stone fireplace that was built in when the house was built 28 years ago and when other fireplace companies had worked on it they never needed to who manufactured the fireplace blower to replace the firebrick wall. I found the 28 year old paperwork and called Ginger back with the information which did not help anyway. I asked Ginger to call Rob to see if he could squeeze me in the following day so I could get my fireplace working since I had been waiting for 3 weeks already. She said that he was in the field, I said he must have a cell phone then she said he would not have schedule that she has it with her, well she could tell him what the schedule was and he could make a decision from there. I could tell I was just getting the run around. She said someone would call me later and let me know what was going on. I was not surprised when no one called later. In fact they never got back to me until 1/3/2012. Thank God for Royal Chimney Co. I contacted them, they were out the very same day, they did not have the firebrick on the truck they needed but had it in stock and within a couple of days had my fireplace fixed perfectly. Royal Chimney Co is A+ in my book not only for their workmanship but also for outstanding customer service.

We had a floor to ceiling (approximately 18ft H x 6ft W) brick fireplace that we wanted completely torn down and replaced with a modern stacked stone. Genesse Fireplace was happy to take on the challenge. They completed the entire project from demolition to reframing, hanging drywall and building the mantel from my husband's drawing, staining it to match our new hardwood floors exactly. We now have a fireplace we will enjoy for many years.

Worked with staff at showroom to go over style, options, stone, mantel. Contract was executed as I expected. I was informed of the steps that would be taken to get the project done. Workers left work area clean at the end of each day of work. There were several professionals working on the project and completion of each step followed nicely resulting in a project that did not drag out. At the same time I was getting skylights installed. The skylight drywaller commented that the drywaller who did the work on the fireplace did an excellent job. I'm very pleased with the result.
Description of Work: Replaced old fireplace. Removed old stone and firebox, installed new gas insert, drywall and stone.

They had a wide variety of products and they didn’t try to sell me the most expensive product, they tried to sell me the product that would work best for me. They actually talked me down from getting the gas igniter with a remote control.

+ -1 moreThey were incredibly professional and easy to work with. They even gave me a discount due to the unfavorable circumstances. They were very quick to respond and I would recommend them anyone. They sent out two guys, Rob and John, who were quite nice to work with. They were good natured, and stayed focused throughout the entire length job.
Description of Work: On two occasions the company I hired to clean the chimney dropped their brush. The first time Genesse came they had to reinstall the stove, as it was removed to retrieve their brush. The second time they came they had to remove and reinstall the stove and fireplace liner.

They always arrived when scheduled. They custom fabricated the fireplace surround for best fit on our stone fireplace. Work was done exactly as we expected and hoped.

+ -1 moreAfter weeks of visiting fireplace stores around the state, we were pretty discouraged. That is, until we hit upon Genesee. They are tucked away on a charming street. We were assisted ably by Dennis Wilson and another salesperson. They were professional and knowledgeable about their products and helped us come to a decision as to brand and size. Although we had many challenges in the rough and finish stages of our kitchen remodel, Genesee staff were at all times responsive, helpful, and professional. I have recommended Genesee to at least a half dozen of my friends and acquaintances in the past few months.
Description of Work: They helped prep. a rough stage for a fireplace opening and provided and installed a Mendota brand gas log fireplace (direct vent) fired up the same.

The unit actually arrived a little early, by mid January we had an appointment for the next week for the installation. They installed a new chimney liner along with the fireplace insert. Since then, we have saved over $100 per month on our gas bills by burning wood in the stove. That's around a 30-40% savings! Well worth the price.

FROM START TO FINISH, EVERYONE FROM GENESEE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. RECOMMEND THEM ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT QUESTION.
