Seemed professional during inspection. I came away with the impression this guy knew what he was doing. He was there early and had done a walk around before I arrived. But, he did not recognize the 'split bus electrical panel' and misidentified it as a 60 amp panel, when in reality it is a 100 watt panel. He also stated in his report that the home contained a sump crock, complete with a sump pump that drains to exterior. Unfortunately, for the report, the home has none of this equipment. I submitted a copy of the report to the seller when they asked about the inspection. (Ron seemed shocked that I had done this).. and of course they tore into the info provided in the report because of the errors. I had absolutely no grounds for rebuttal due to the reports inaccuracy. I mentioned I had found his name on Angie's List hoping to obtain the promised 25 dollar discount but to no avail. At 62 years of age I guess I didn't qualify for his promised 'senior discount' either. When contacted about the errors Ron chuckled and stated it was a 'typo' and offered to resend a 'revised' report, but the damage was done. I would not rehire or recommend this guy.

Ron was very helpful. He walked me through the whole home and made sure I understood how to operate everything and properly care for the home when I moved in, all the while making sure it was in good working order. I felt very comfortable making the purchase knowing what I was dealing with when we were through. I referred my sister to him for her home purchase just a couple weeks later, and she felt the same way!

Hired for an inspection on an older home downtown. Ron did a great job of going over the home thoroughly, and emailed me a detailed report the next day. I would definitely hire him again.

Description of Work: Ron performed a home inspection on a 113 year old house in Stoughton that my wife and I were hoping to buy. The house had recently been "flipped." Ron took a few hours with me walking around the house and pointing out his concerns--from the little ones that would be easy fixes for me once we moved in, all the way up to the major structural issues that, in the end, helped us make the decision to not purchase this house. He knew what to look at to find the places where the flipper had tried to cover things up (such as painting over wood that was so rotten you could pull it apart with your fingers), and he was very detail oriented, which is exactly what you want in a home inspector. He even went so far as to read through some of the paperwork regarding the sale. In the list of improvements the house had undergone, he noticed a small detail; one of the improvements said it had been done on the recommendation of a structural engineer. This prompted us to request the structural engineer's original report from which we learned that the house needed more than $43,000 in repairs that had not yet been performed. You may be able to find an inspector who is a little less expensive, but I think Ron's work was definitely worth it when you consider the potential hassle his inspection saved us.
