I’ll start by saying the deck is finished, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to collapse any time soon. That’s about as positive as I can be about this process. The deck took 7 weeks to finish from the day they said they would start to the day we paid them in full. Traye will try to only say what will please you in the moment, but most of his words will not be true. They drank on our job site and left beer cans and other trash littered in our back yard throughout the entire process. If we had not been closely watching their work, we would’ve had a deck that not only would’ve looked terrible, but would’ve been unsafe as well. They failed to deliver on any of their deadlines/promises. Had I hired a company that did respectable, and professional work, I would’ve asked them to fix some things that Traye and his crew did incorrectly before paying them. However, it was worth getting this company off of our property so much that I just paid him and fixed their errors myself. Buyer beware.
Description of Work: They built a new deck from scratch.

I utilized Angi to search for a contractor to provide labor to finish framing a deck off the kitchen of my residence, and install composite decking and rails. Within minutes of submitting the information on Angi's website, I was contacted by Traye of Diamond Decking LLC. He asked several questions about the project and asked me to send him the approved deck plans, which I did. Based on the information provided and his review of those plans, he submitted an offer to complete the work. The terms of the contract are as follows: "Framing and Decking Labor $2100 cash price. Labor for building frame. Installing correct framing components. Passing inspection. Labor for laying 320 SQ/FT of deck boards. Installing composite using the correct fastener system/screws. Installing Fascia and picture frame boards if needed." The work was to occur over a minimum of two days. $1050 in cash would be paid up front with the balance upon completion. Traye and his colleague came to my residence on Wednesday, November 22 and began working on the partially completed frame. At about 7:00 pm, they departed, stating they had a bit left to do to finish the framing and agreed to return on Friday, November 24. No one came. They said they would be returning that weekend, but again no one showed up. On Tuesday, November, they finally returned and completed the framing. After I passed my framing inspection, I arranged with Traye to resume the project on Saturday, December 2. Traye arrived over three hours late; his colleague arrived several hours after that. I gave Traye access to the deck materials and fasteners. After a short while, he began complaining about the fasteners, stating it would take longer than expected to lay the decking using them. He sent me a text message offering to come back with other hardware to more efficiently lay the decking. I said that would be fine, but he chose to keep working. While installing one of the deck boards, he negligently damaged it in two places, causing it to snap. When I noticed it, he said he would fuse it back together using a heat gun. Traye left the residence and his colleague remained to continue installing the decking. After he departed, I reached out to Traye to ask what the plan was for finishing up the work. He responded that he would not be continuing the work unless I agreed to pay more than what the signed contract that he drafted and sent me to sign stated. H later sent me a take it or leave it contract of adhesion that conditioned any future work on paying an additional $680 above what we had mutually agreed to pay. I hoped to work with Traye to arrive at a mutually agreeable resolution. To that end, I proposed to work with him, provide different fasteners or pay slightly more to make up for his miscalculation. Nonetheless, stopping mid-project and refusing to continue unless I agreed to pay nearly a third more than what we already clearly agreed to is unconscionable.

Response from Diamond Decking LLC
We showed nothing but the best craftsmanship made your frame pass inspection then you added more work then what we agreed upon and refused to pay us for it. Our Proposal was $2100 total on a hourly base at $170/hr. with that extra work you added it took us more then 4 hours to complete to pass inspection. Now we are mid project and you refuse to add those 4 hours of new work you added onto the project. We have been fairly reasonable working on weekends giving you a veteran discount and discounting the whole price of the project. In the world we live in no one will work for free. I gave you 2 options we can continue and you can pay us for the 4 hours of work you added that wasn’t agreed upon in writing or we can split the difference out of the deposit and get paid for what we worked and refund you for the remainder those are my terms.
