The first guy installed the backup pump 3 years ago. He seemed inexperienced, but was a master plumber (he was just inexperienced with backup sump pump installation). In any case, it wasn't installed to spec, but it has worked these past three years. I decided to call Action to have it fixed properly and although the lady who answered was somewhat unprofessional and argumentative, the two gentlemen who came out were fantastic! They fixed the problem, better than new and didn't charge a penny for the service! Action now has a new regular customer.

Shower handle broke when turning faucet on. I called Action Plumbing - having used their services in the past - and asked if someone could come out the same day, as I had to turn off my main water line until the problem was fixed. I got called back quickly and was told they'd be out that morning. They came out and replaced a cartridge and re-attached my faucet and everything was good to go. All told, they were at the house for about an hour, and I was able to get to work before Noon that day. Each time I've called Action Plumbing, they've been nothing but prompt, friendly, willing to explain anything they're doing. I would definitely recommend them to others.

Called and scheduled an appt to install circuit and gave details of what was needed. Appt was scheduled between 2:30-5pm on a Friday. The crew showed up at 5:01 and obviously did not want to be here on a Friday afternoon. Additionally they were completely unprepared and did not have the materials needed. They did offer to come back next week and do it, however, I wasted a half day off of work to be home during this install, so I decided not to use their services. This is why I gave specifics when I called and scheduled the job!

Called and scheduled an appt, and gave details about service wanted. Guys showed up at 5:01 on a Friday and obviously did not want to be there. On top of that, they had no idea what i had requested and did not have the materials on hand, despite the fact that I had explicitly requested them. I took a half day off of work to be at home, and they failed miserably.

Heating element failed. Contractor arranged for parts under warranty and had them delivered to the house the next day. They came in the next day and installed. They could have simply told me the parts were not under warranty?.as they actually were not, technically. Instead they treated me well and charged much less than they could have.

We call late in the day for a non-emergency situation and set up an appointment the next day when we found our central air unit wasn't working. Our technician, Troy, was great. He called ahead to let us know when to expect him and was right on time. He asked a few question to diagnose the problem, and quickly identified a bad capacitor as the problem. He had one on his truck, and it was a quick change. He checked a couple other things to make sure we were good to go and was done within 15 minutes or so. He also made an effort to help us locate a $25 coupon to reduce the cost of the job. Class act.

Called late at night when I noticed tank leaking and phone was answered quickly by service but had to wait until morning for return call with estimate. Return call was prompt the next day and service was scheduled for the afternoon between 12-5. Technician arrived shortly after 12. He was courteous and friendly. Did a nice job despite a few unexpected issues and left the work area clean. Would definitely consider hiring again in the future.

The office gave me the time of after 3:00 pm. Troy arrived at 4:45 pm. I do not blame him since this is normal when you are the last appointment. Troy tried to remove the cartridge on the temperature dial but the tool used could not remove it due to years of calcium deposits. I have no idea how old it was since it was included when I purchased the house. He tried to drill it out with my drill bit but it broke. The only other option was to work from the back of the shower. He could have left and returned in the morning but due to the age of the house, I would have had no water overnight. I only have one shut-off valve. Instead Troy decided to stay until it was fixed. We have a closet behind the shower but no access panel. We drilled out a hole and Troy was able to replace the dial, faucet and shower head. He did not leave until 7:45 pm. He did a great job.
Description of Work: The shower temperature dial was leaking. Troy had to replace the entire dial, faucet and shower head since the dial was almost completely covered in calcium deposits. He could not replace the cartridge due to the buildup.

Action was very prompt in responding to my Angie's List information request email. They confirmed what type of tub and faucet I wanted and gave me an estimate. I was happy with it and asked for their next availability. They worked with me to find the best day and time. Action promised that we would be their first call of the day and they were right on time. They called to let me know when their truck left the building so we were prepped for them to arrive. Their two guys broke up the old leaky tub with sledgehammers and removed all the concrete and old piping. They installed the new tub, faucet, and piping connections. The basement was left completely clean. From start to finish, they were done in just over 2 hours. I had dreaded having the work done. Action's responsiveness, reasonable price, and great work made it easy. I am thrilled to have it done!

The plumber called to let me know that he was on the way. Once here, he worked quickly, but was very friendly as well. He provided some recommendations, but was not condescending in any way. He cleaned up after himself, presented a thorough bill, provided me with a receipt, and was on his way. Total time: 25 minutes.

I called the owner/supervisor who stated that extensive work took 2 servicemen 4 hrs. to complete the winterization. I told him that the estimate was up to $300. he became upset and did refund $200, but then stated that the service would be fired. winterizing a home is a much simpler task than they had explained to me. i feel that I was taken advantage of and grossly over charged. Also I suspect being a woman did not help my case. I do not trust them and would not recommend their services.
Description of Work: winterized a home. When I made the appointment, they gave an estimate not to exceed $300. Because the weather forecast was to be dropping below freezing. I called them on a Friday to have the work done that day. They stated that they would be able to do the work. When 2 service people showed up, one explained that it would be extensive work to winterize the home and said the cost would be close to $500 and he requested payment or for me to leave a signed check. This was a vacant house and I was not able to stay while the work was being done. I left a signed check. the service man called when they were finished and said the bill would be over $500. he wrote the amount on the check. I have had many homes winterized as I am a real estate agent. I have never paid more than $120. I questioned his price, but to no avail. 4500

I called Action Plumbing and talked to their service coordinator and gave a brief description of the water heater and what the symptoms were of its recent poor performance. They arranged a prompt visit to address the problem and informed me during the call that there would be a fee of $95 for the first 30 minutes plus the cost of parts. Any additional time needed would be billed at $100hr. Fair enough. Here is where the company failed and warrants a poor review in my opinion. If they had asked in my initial screening call for precise information about the heater (serial number for example instead of just the model), I am fairly certain, we could have had a successful encounter. The pleasant and knowledgeable plumber showed up and proceeded to diagnose the problem rather quickly. He explained that the ignitor was frequently a problem as the unit ages and that he had some parts that should fit in his truck. After trying 3 different units he had in the truck, he determined that although these parts were similar, they were not the identical part needed for this precise heater. He then called in the serial number to the supplier and arranged to pick up the part. So far, we are at about the 40 minute mark and well over $100. I asked what we should do next since I have a family and the unit needs to be up and running soon if possible. He then stated that he could run and pick up the part from the supplier which in my estimation would take about 30 - 40 minutes round trip when you factor in time at the counter and no traffic problems. I nearly fell over when I was told I would be billed for the time it took to get the part which at $100 hr seemed ridiculous. He called his employer to verify whether or not I was to be billed for his time to get the part ? I was. To avoid that fee, they offered to have one of their other plumbers swing by and pick up the part during the day, but then they'd have to charge me some kind of fee to come out again etc. Bottom-line they were going to charge me $187 for the part, plus some kind of labor or visit charge in addition to the money already spent on the initial visit. By the way, my bill was reduced to $100 for this first visit by using a $25 coupon I had. I am a reasonable guy and I don't expect a plumber to have every part stashed in their van, but bringing with them some of the most common parts to fit my exact heater would seem like a reasonable expectation, but was not possible evidently without asking me for the serial number on the screening call. Clearly this repair was not particularly unusual otherwise why would they have 3 ?similar? units to try in stock in the van? I saw no reason to proceed with this company and I felt bad calling someone else because the plumber was a really nice guy. In the end I used Dave?s Plumbing out of Stoughton WI who used the same supplier who installed the exact same part the next morning INCLUDING labor and all other fees for a grand total of $172. Think about that. INSTALLED the part for less than Action was billing me for the part alone. I do understand the need for a markup on the part, but it would have felt like double dipping to charge me a significant markup fee and a part pickup fee if I had continued with Action. Action, if you are reading this, I would suggest you get model and serial number of the item you will be working on during the initial telephone screening process. Bring the most common parts and hope for the best. I don't think having the right part for this job was unrealistic as it was a pretty common repair in my opinion. By having 3 similar parts in the van, it implies that you, too, thought it was a realistic possibility. In sum, what would have seemed reasonable to me? 1. taking the time to identify the heater precisely on the initial screening call 2. Pick-up the part on your time or give me the part for cost if you are going to bill me again for the service call as a way to compensate for the delay. In my estimation if you had the right part with you initially by getting the serial number during the screening call, the plumber could have easily been in and out in the first 30 minutes with the job finished (as done by Dave?s Plumbing). If Action Plumbing would have performed as expected: $95 labor + $187 part. Done. I could have lived with that and Action would have likely earned a much more positive review due to promptness, nice personnel, and demonstrated expertise, but this encounter as described, can't be met with my endorsement.
Description of Work: came out to diagnose and hopefully fix residential gas hot water heater. Was able to make a best guess at problem, but after trying to fix it, decided that exact part was needed and did not have that part with them.

After purchasing a new wall oven from Home Depot East Madison, their installer measured the existing oven cutout incorrectly and told me that I should get a smaller oven. I knew this was wrong as I had measured the cutout and cabinet depth myself previously and knew that only a small strip of wood needed to be removed for the oven to fit. Home Depot's appliance department was unable to help or give advice. After checking Angie's List, I called Action Electric in nearby Sun Prairie. I was told that they could do the work and could send out an electrician in two days. I cautioned them that two men were needed as the old and new ovens both weighed about 130 lbs. The electricians arrived within the four-hour time window I was given. As soon as the oven was out of the cabinet, one man left and the other completed the electrical disconnect. Total time: 18 minutes. I modified the cabinet slightly and called Action Electric back. Two more electricians were scheduled for the next day and arrived on time. One man was an electrician, the other a beginning apprentice to assist with lifting the oven. They completed the installation in just an hour. This included cutting holes in the back of the cabinet to retrieve and relocate the electrical cable, mounting an new electrical box, connecting the electrical wiring, installing the oven and its associated trim pieces. They vacuumed up the sawdust and disposed of the other debris. The electrician also turned on and tested the oven. The electricians on both visits were professional, friendly and easy to talk with. I would definitely use this company again. NOTE: The category for this company should be electrician and not plumbing in my case. .

Action was knowledgeable in troubleshooting the problems we were experiencing with our 22-year-old furnace. They explained (1) the problem, (2) our options, (3) the size of furnace replacement we'd need should we opt to go that route -- no pressure, (4) differences between current furnace manufacturers/models, and (5) they answered any other questions that we were concerned about. They were also punctual, personable, and did the job without springing any "surprises" along the way. Our replacement furnace kept us warm/comfortable during one of the worst Winters in our region's history. Disclaimer: We've used Action Plumbing Heating A/C and Electric in the past and will continue to do so. We've always counted on their professionalism, competitive pricing, and personable demeanor to get the job done right. They've never disappointed us.

We first hired Action Plumbing at a time when we were having frequent backups and the previous company couldn't find the problem. Action never found the problem either, but they were generally more responsive to our needs and concerns so we stuck with them. We settled on regular cleanings to prevent the backups and that seems to be doing the job. They are always friendly and professional when they're on site. They're always willing to show me what they see and explain their recommendations. They do a pretty good job of cleaning up afterward. Overall we've been very happy with their services.

$280 to fix a grease clogged sink? That was my first issue with their service. They did fix the problem but I feel the price was very high. I also asked them if they could install an air gap in our sink after they had arrived. The technician said he did not have the proper tool with him and it would be an additional trip charge of $95 for him to go get it so I declined this service. I'm assuming the cost of returning to the shop and coming back is not $95. Another issue I had is that they also removed the drain plug in our utility room and it splashed waste water on our furnace and some cabinet doors that were stored in the room and it was not cleaned up, I find this to be unacceptable and is the reason for the low professionalism rating. I will not be using Action Plumbing again in the future.
Description of Work: Description of Services or work rendered: Material and labor to check plugged kitchen sink, removed cleanout plug under kitchen sink to run machine down, hit grease about 2 fit in, ran machine down numerous times before it was clear, filled and drained sink with hot water, and kitchen sink draining good at this time.

First of all, I am very appreciative of the fact that they have weekend hours. Hot water was not working on Saturday morning. The guy that came out (Chuck) was personable and professional and great about answering my questions. He replaced hot water element and also plugged in a part that I had for water softener (this was just a plug in thing so only took 5 minutes). They charge 95 for first half hour and 25 for every 15 minutes thereafter (100 per hour). The clock starts the second they pull into driveway and until they are done with the paperwork of billing. So don't dilly dally with conversation about non-topical stuff unless you want to pay for it. But I am extremely happy with them fixing it and professionalism and answering questions I had, so I yes I would use them again, just no idle chit chat.
Description of Work: Replaced hot water element in hot water tank.
