I was very happy with the service that I received from John. He returned my calls and came on a Sunday to do a free estimate and inspection. Another company wanted to charge me $130 just to come and do an inspection. He showed up on time and completed the work in a timely fashion and very cleanly. A few days after the work was done, we noticed that there was still some water dripping into our firebox. I called him and told him and he came to look at it in the next few days without charging any more.

Employees called, asked if they could come earlier than appointment. This was no problem. They put down a tarp, and one person was on the roof cleaning the stack, and the other was vacuuming up debris down by the firebox. They did it with the doors closed, so there was literally no mess in the living room. Cleaners were polite and friendly.

My appointment was scheduled one week after I made the initial call. The two workers were punctual and professional. They came in with one tarp, noticed I had off-white carpet in the living room, then retrieved another tarp to cover a larger area. One worker went on top of the roof to clean the chimney and the other worked inside the fireplace. It took approximately 30 minutes to complete. I then asked them to describe in detail what they found when inspecting the chimney and what they did. The explanation was detailed and very professional. I am very pleased with the service.

I was shocked. I was told by a very busy John Ossoinik that he didn't have time to do that work any longer and that he just didn't have the time to discuss it with me. He is working with 8 construction contractors now and did have time for the little repairs. I told him I was sorry to hear that and that I would make a comment at Angie's List not to have others contact him. He changed his tune some when I mentioned Angie's List but I went on to call other Chimney repair places. Just thought I would save some people some time.
Description of Work: I spoke to John on Sept 16th. I was looking for some chimney repairs. I believed the problem to be with our Chimney cap. I wanted to have an estimate of how much it would cost to stop the leak.

They returned my call the next day and scheduled appointment that same week. They cleaned and inspected the chimney, then had to special order the correct cap for my chimney. They returned the following week to complete the installation. There was not an additional charge for the extra trip. They were professional and my white carpet stayed clean. The chimney cap was a good fix for my 45 year old broken internal damper and operates from inside more easily than the original damper did.

Overall it went well. I was not there when they did the job, but they clean up behind themselves, did not leave a mess at all. What little I know about a chimney, it was done well from what I seen on the outside. Milwaukee Chimney was a business of their word. Call late at night, he came the next day a give us and estimate. They saved us $5,000.00. when they gave us the estimate we were in shock, so I had to call him because of the different. And they sure us that the quote was given to use was correct. I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: They repaired the mortar that had fallen from a bad storm. Also did the masonry part to the chimney, did the flashing that had to be done. Put a cap on the top of the chimney for protection.

John returned my call promptly and came out to quote the job within 48 hours. What I wanted him to do was install a chimney liner and do some tuckpointing on the chimney itself. We have had some minor cracking due to the moisture issue and I wanted the cracks repaired before the winter. John only quoted on the chimney liner and when I contacted him about the tuckpointing he said the job was too difficult, which was surprising given some of the reports below. I suspect he did not want to do the tuckpointing because our chimney is difficult to reach and on a steep roof section. I also asked them to recaulk the flashing, which John agreed to do, however, it was not done with no explanation why not. The liner was installed quickly and professionally, however, I have to give them a lower grade due to them not finishing the flashing and refusing to do the chimney repair.

John was responsive, quick, and professional. We are selling our home, and at our request, John also talked directly with the buyers, who had obtained a higher estimate for repairs that didn't address the main concern (cracked/missing mortar due to condensation from venting of water and furnace into masonry chimney).

Called several chimney contractors, and many said I needed a complete chimney rebuild which was surprising, given I could see that minor tuckpointing was needed. Had a structural engineer friend verify chimney was in OK shape and did not need major rebuild, that other said would cost $10,000 - $15,000. John from Milwaukee Chimney said I only needed a liner, tuckpointing and flashing repair. I had someone else lined up to tuckpoint the whole house so did not have them do the tuckpoint. I'm pretty convinced that there are several chimney contractors out there recommending that complete re-builds be done when minor repairs would be sufficient. Milwaukee Chimney was prompt and their price was very reasonable for what was done.

Because it was furnace chimney I was concerned about carbon monoxide poisoning. I called in the morning and they came by 12:30. They quickly reviewed the job and promptly removed the nest that was packed in the chimney. It took quite a bit of effort. The workers were pleasant and knowledgeable. They cleaned up after themselves and took away all debris. We definitely would have them do additional work when needed. It is interesting to note that Royal Chimney wouldn't come out and do the job (number one on the printout and our first choice). They told us to contact animal control. That is why we went with Milwaukee Chimney Contractors who immediately made an appointment to come out.

Masonry Chimney was showing signs of water damage (efflorescence, brick spalling). Called several chimney contractors (all highly rated on Angie's list) for estimates which ranged from $5000 for tuck pointing and a liner to $20,000 for a complete chimney rebuild. Never could get two contractors to agree on what was wrong. Called Jon, who gave me an estimate over the phone. They showed up on time and completed the work in less than 2 hours. Once they started snaking the liner we realized what was wrong in the chimney. The previous owner vented the gas furnace and water heater into the clay flue tile chimney. But in doing so, the contractors cracked/ destroyed numerous clay tiles which allowed the moisture laden furnace exhaust to vent into the chimney innards NOT the flue as it should. Jon's work was completed in the fall and there has been no new evidence of water damage to the chimney this entire winter. He also suggested I contact brick layers for the tuck point repairs.

John, the owner, was very pleasant and responsive from my initial conversation with him. He is knowledgeable on the process and willing to walk me through it as I was starting with no idea as to what needed to be done. The team showed up on time, was professional, and was done with the cleaning within 30 minutes. The interior of my house was not impacted at all by this process.

John has a blue tooth phone stuck in his ear. Anytime you call, you will get him, not some clerk. He delivered on providing the same service as the other chimney guys, but for half the price. I forgot to mention that I had Johns price before I received the $1904 price from the crew that was on the roof in the first place. In their quote, they actually had listed "$300 for rigging and securing ladders." Give me a break. Only surprise on this job was the 5 foot tall stack out the roof line is right at the point were the pipe manufacturer begins to recommend guy wire supports. At present, I do not have these. I have been watching the pipe on windy days. John said he will add these for me a no charge if I desire them.
Description of Work: My masonry 30 year old chimney that I thought I could have relined with a b-vent turned out to be ready to fall off my roof. It was cracked in half under the roof line. The company that was going to do this for $350 was sub-contracted by my A/C & Furnace installation company. Now the chimney needed to be removed flush to the roof line, re-lined, install a 5' tall stack out the roof with a flashed in stack collar and some additional shingle work. This same contractor now wanted $1904. This seemed ridiculous. I called John Ossoinik at Milwaukee Chimney and he gave me a $700 to $900 price over the phone. I asked him to come look at my job personally and he did the next day and left a detailed quote for the $800. Tried contacting another outfit, but Johns crew was out working on the roof before they bothered to call back. Midway through the job, John showed up and gave the job his personal touch & OK. The crew was polite, cleaned up everything before they left, worked quiet & fast.

Milwaukee chimney arrived on time and got right to work. They were here for about 45 minutes and made no mess. We were told that the chimney was in good shape and he went on to explain how he noticed a downdraft in our chimney and told us how to determine if that was the case. He also answered some basic questions about fireplace usage. Friendly and prompt, I'd definitely recommend Milwaukee Chimney and use them again myself.
