We chose Wind River Construction as our contractor to remove, replace and finish a wood shake siding project on our home. The contractor, George and his crew worked to complete the job in a timely way. Daily, the crew cleaned the site for the next day. The work was thorough and responsibly done to our satisfaction.. The crew has a good range of expertise. Even painting the finished product was neat. Pricing was fair and honest. They do good work!
Description of Work: The work included the removal, replacement, and painting of wood shake siding on our home.

I received a phone call from Wind River Construction within an hour or two after requesting quotes from 3 companies on Angie's List. Wind River was the most responsive, and also reasonably priced. Two guys came out on the days they said they would be here, and completed the work well. They were able to match my existing fascia trim and purchase the exact color/brand we needed. It was very simple and straight forward. I paid when the job was completed. I would definitely hire them again. Thanks!

Door looks great, very professional.
Description of Work: They installed a new garage door.
George Faulk (Owner and Crew Leader) came and gave the most reliable, honest quote to our home. We had extensive damage due to a faulty roof. And, within the noted time-frame, he and his crew remodeled the entire house. Beautiful work!! These guys are so professional and hardworking! The work ethic and competence is truly amazing. We had such a mess here and they did exactly as George noted on quote. Fixed everything. We rate him and crew with the highest regard. You'll be amazed with the work and these fine gentlemen. THANKS WIND RIVER for helping us. You saw the mess and look on my wife's face with our damaged home and you fixed it so well within such short time frame. AMAZING WORK and PERSONALITIES!! We rate you all A's because that is what you deserve. Sincerely, Dave and Lisa

Very professional compared to most of the other contractors I requested bids from. I was impressed by how quickly they responded to my request for an estimate and followed up with me to see if I was still interested. Although I wound up accepting a different bid for the work, I would definitely consider giving Wind River another opportunity for my future home repair needs.
We cannot say enough about how wonderful George with Wind River has been to work with! He is knowledgeable, super responsive and ,really goes the extra mile to ensure we are getting the best quality products for the best PRICE! I an a project manager by trade so my expectations are pretty high to begin with and George has exceeded them all!

George has been in the process of doing a huge demo in our homw over the past week. He has done a great job. He has removed kitchen cabinets, flooring, trim, all doors & door jambs, and a wall between our kitchen & living room. He was very cautious about removing the wall-he even called the truss company. He went into the attic to make sure it was not a load bearing wall before taking it down. He was very straight with us about what the cost would be if it was a load bearing wall in order to safely remove the wall. We still have a ways to go-we can't wait to see the finishing touches George will be completing in the next few weeks. He will be installing our new kitchen & bathroom cabinets, along with lots of other things too many to mention. We are so happy with the work that George has been doing. We are already talking to him about future projects we need down the road.
Description of Work: We are in the process of a pretty major remodel. We needed the kitchen "gutted" including cabinets, trim & flooring. We wanted to take a wall down between our living room & kitchen. We also wanted to do a complete gut of our master bath and an update in another bath. We needed lots of flooring removed.

The house is beginning to take shape. George has been transparent during each step of the construction process. He walked me through the whole process of obtaining permits for this very complicated situation. It was a very old house and zoning has changed quite a bit since it was built. George has been very persistant in getting permits for the work we wanted to get done. I couldn't have done it without him!

Before hiring George, we traveled to Eau Claire to see the home in the review dated 08/20/2017 were also impressed with his Angie’s List reviews. In June 2017, Wind River Construction provided an updated estimate on a bathroom remodel to fix our DIY project. We signed a contract on 7/14/17. At the time of our signing of the contract, George stopped by, was in a hurry to get a signature and check, quickly glanced over the bathroom and left without discussing with us the vanity and toilet layout and other important items for a construction project. We were initially going to tackle the tub/shower plumbing ourselves, but called George the next day (Saturday) to request he bring his plumber in for that work. We worked all weekend getting the plumbing ready for the toilet and vanity. George also told us that there would “always be an adult” on the premises to make sure all went well and that he would be doing our tiling work in the tub surround. Prior to starting, we emphasized how we wanted them to protect our brand new Kohler acrylic bathtub while doing the work; we even provided drop cloths. George told us that his team would cover the tub with plywood to protect it and provide a place to stand. The first day George, two members of his team, and the plumber were at our house. George’s team did not bring their own floor protection, plastic, tape, or garbage containers. They started working on the drywall in our living room. We had to give them our items to use for dust and floor protection. That same day the plumber asked why the vanity and toilet were in the locations that we had them set up for. We indicated that those locations of the previous fixtures and we didn't think anything of it. The plumber suggested switching them around and we agreed that the new layout was better. George agreed with the plumber but had not mentioned it when we discussed it with him just three days prior! That change cost an extra $1000. George and my wife also shook hands over the project’s completion level to be “turn-key” except for painting and trim, (we were going to complete). We had not discussed trash control with George, but we assumed since he was a professional contractor, that he would provide the work crew with a trash can. All of the trash from the first week of work was thrown right outside our new living room and bathroom windows, where it sat piled up on our lawn (over the weekend!) until we said something to George. Personal trash, like candy wrappers and plastic bottles, were included in the trash pile. The tub creaked when stepped in. George indicated that our tub was slightly out of level but would still drain. We trusted that George had the situation under control and knew how to make everything work out, so we allowed him and his team to continue. Once the tub was in, George and one of his workers began putting up the durock for the tile, stepping in the unprotected tub with shoes. We discovered many pieces of the concrete durock in our tub, along with a lot of scratches. After some disagreement at that point about how bad the tub was scratched and if they could fix it, George eventually agreed to comp us for the tub damage. He did offer to replace the tub entirely, but this would have held up the project for weeks, and there was no guarantee that the new tub would be delivered in acceptable condition. Our bathroom floors and walls were not straight/level, and we made sure to explain it to George before the contract signing. No leveling of the walls or floors was made. We had picked out 2” x 4” subway tiles mats for our tub surround. George told us that working with the mats was easier than working with individual tiles. George worked at tiling for the first 3 days, but had a family emergency that took up 2 days out of the working week. Instead of halting the project to be able to finish the job himself, he showed one of the workers how to tile and left. The worker was not a professional tiler, but told us “he helped his dad tile their bathroom, and his dad was anal.” My wife had diligently spent hours going through all the tiles to remove chipped, broken or scratched tiles, only to find out that the workers were chipping them during tile cutting. The workers were spreading the mastic on the back of the tiles and simply sticking them in place, some with no spacers. Tile corners did not line up at all across the grout lines, and narrow tiles were stuck into the corners. Tiles were crooked and did not line up. We expressed our concerns, and the workers said that the gap would fill in with grout and caulk after it was all done. There were times in these 2 days where no “adults” were present when the young worker was at our home, tiling and working on the drywall. We had framed two small wall niches in the tub surround, and we knew they were not level and did not match height-wise; the crew left the niches as-is. The niches did not slope to drain. When the tiles came up to meet the niches the worker who was tiling was unsure of how to finish around them. He suggested that we purchase a specific tile type for installing on an inside corner; we went to a tile store and the staff said that those tiles do not exist! We ended up having to suggest to him to miter bullnose tiles around the niches to make something work. As the tiling progressed, the problems increased. While trying to infill with individual cut tiles, mastic squeezed through the grout lines. The mastic was so thick it was filling in the gaps between the tiles, leaving little to no room for grout. We were severely concerned at this point regarding the craftsmanship and lack of attention to detail. We called George the day (Friday) that the younger worker “finished” the tiling job and told him our concerns. We asked George to come look at it as soon as possible, and he told us he would come by on the following Monday. We decided at that point to stop the project and told George that we would like a portion of our down payment back. We were very concerned about the quality of the work. When George came by to look at the work on Monday, we were very upset. George told us the only option at that point would be to have his workers chip the mastic out between the tiles (we were worried about further tile damage) or to tear everything out and start over. We were very upset, because we had already spent two weeks rearranging our schedules, having a contractor in our home, dealing with trash out the window, a scratched brand new bathtub, etc. We had bought out five (5) local Menards from their tile and weren’t sure what to do to find more tile, as we were going to have to replace all of the tile that had to be torn out had George started over. We had lost all of our trust and confidence in George’s crew and the work quality. George said that we had verbally approved everything at the end of each day, which we had not, as some days his workers left without saying anything to us, and other days we were both gone to work. We had not agreed on any type of verbal approval with him at any time and there was nothing about it in our contract. At that point we were so upset and frustrated that the last thing we wanted was to have George and his workers in our home any longer. We terminated our contract with George at that point. George had his workers remove the tile and durock. In the process, they punched a few holes/spots in the hallway drywall, which we had to pay $70 to have fixed. We attempted to talk to George again over email about our desire to have a portion of our down payment refunded. We had put down approximately 60% of the total project cost for the bathroom remodel and some drywall work in the bathroom and our living room. We were mostly satisfied with the drywall work, which was not 100% complete. However, we were not willing to pay for any of the tiling work, which was the only other thing accomplished in the bathroom other than some plumbing (we paid the plumber separately with cash), and drywall work. George said he was approximately 98% complete with the project. To us, 98% complete means that the project is substantially complete and only “punch list” items are left. Even if the tile work had stayed, it still needed to be grouted and fixtures installed, toilet, vanity and floor installed, final drywall, final cleanup, etc. We asked that we pay for the drywall work and get the remaining deposit refunded. George sent an email back to us stating that we actually owed him more money, and if we didn't pay it that was fine too. We also asked that George itemize how he was coming up with the final number of the work actually performed, not including the tiling. He did not provide the information. We were fine with paying for work his team did that we could use. We could not use anything from the tiling job in our bathroom – everything was torn back down to the studs and the tub was removed. George had reimbursed us for the cost of the tile and for the $600 comp toward the tub damage and $275 for supplies we had purchased. He purchased new niches and durock for us. We had purchased the tub, niches, durock and the tile on our own. We were able to hire a new contractor to complete the bathroom remodel. The new contractor had to level the floors with both OSB and a self-leveling floor compound, level the walls surrounding the bathtub, redo the niches and buff out the tub. The new plumber had to fix some of the work that George’s plumber had done on the shower, toilet and vanity. We also paid a new drywaller to finish the living room. It cost us $6,800 for the new bathroom construction and $480 to have the new drywall worker come and finish the walls. We paid George $4,800 for a down payment and are requesting that $3,600 be returned. We feel that this amount is fair, considering the work that was done by George’s team that we could still use, and considering we had to pay new contractors to start all over in the bathroom and to finish the drywall work.

George and his crew are top notch! He was quick to reply to all phone calls and texted questions that I randomly sent off. We needed a new vent installed from our bathroom to the roof. We were having a constant ice dam develop from the heat generated from the old vent that pointed directly at the shingles. The new vent is taller and has successfully directed the heat away preventing any melt and ice dam formation in that spot. We were also having a small leak drip down the pipe for our hot water heater during strong storms during the Summer. New flashing & shingles were installed around the problem area on the roof and so far we have been clear of any leaks. George followed up with a couple of phone calls to make sure that everything was holding well. I would recommend these guys for any handyman project that would be required around the house. I look forward to contacting George for our next project... I can already see an issue that I dare not attempt fixing :)
